Trepang2 taps into something that a lot of FPS games either neglect or don’t recognize as being important: terror. Through the sheer volume of the guns and the fierce screams and barks of your enemies, Trepang2 makes you feel vulnerable. You spend the early levels burrowed into a corner, trying to stave off a panic attack as the walls explode around you. Later, the dynamic is flipped. You become the terror, and what’s scary about Trepang2 is the amount of bodies you stack up, and the gratuitous gore that bursts forth from every one. Inspired by the superlative FEAR, Trepang2 is better than Doom Eternal, Titanfall 2, and most of the other modern FPS darlings. If you’ve never tried it, now’s the time.
