When you first arrive, Marvin is there, Chief Irons, Sherry, Ben - alongside all the monsters, there are some semblances of ‘life.’ But eventually, the whole place becomes empty. It’s the desolation, the silence, the total absence of everything, that gets under your skin. It’s not just frightening. It’s melancholic.
