A family saw information about the UR research study and decided to do a study of their own. Kuzko and Kronk have little vehicles built by the father, and the entire family works with the rats to improve their driving skills. This includes interaction with human researchers and activities to enhance their lives. Rats are the primary animals in this driving research because their neural pathways are very similar to those of humans. We’re not sure who decided to build the rats cars and teach them to drive, but it is fascinating to watch. The research was first published in 2019, and the animals are featured in a Netflix docu-series, “The Hidden Lives of Pets.” The series examines how animals and humans interact and how they form relationships. It explores the rats who learned to drive, Bunny the talking dog, who communicates using talking buttons, and many other species.
