Koe Wetzel Releases Festive Christmas EP, ‘Wetzel’s Wonderland Chapter 2’

Christmas came early. Today, Koe Wetzel released Wetzel’s Wonderland Chapter 2, which includes three covers of Christmas staples including “Run Run Rudolph,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” and “Silver Bells.” Of course, Koe put out his first Christmas EP Koe Wetzel Presents… Wetzel’s Wonderland last year, which included holiday standards in Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas,” Bing Crosby’s “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” and Charles Brown’s “Please Come Home For Christmas,” that all have a bit of a country twist and updated production. Koe says he “loves Christmas,” and wanted to reimagine some of his favorite classic for fans this holiday season: "I f*****g love Christmas. It is always a big deal in the Wetzel household, and we wanted to put our own spin on some more holiday classics for you. Ho Ho Ho from Uncle Koe!" They of course have all been completely reimagined with Koe's signature country/rock sound, making them feel more unique than just a standard Christmas cover so many artists do these days. I always say I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas music, and these songs don't necessarily change that, but they're at least more interesting to listen to than the average, more standard holiday tune. As fun as it probably is to cover some of his Christmas favorites, I actually think it would be neat to hear Koe come up with some original Christmas songs for next year if he plans to put out more holiday music. His other music has such interesting concepts, so I'd love to see that applied to this type of special project as well. "Run Run Rudolph" is the easy standout for me on Chapter 2, because it feels like more in line with normal "Koe" type of production we're used to and is really upbeat and fun, but you can listen to all three of them below. Morgan Wade and Stephen Wilson, Jr. will open for Koe at both shows, and I would absolutely love to see a show with the three of them on one bill, so if you’re lucky enough to attend, I think you’re in for a real treat. With those festive concerts, Koe will close out quite a year… from scoring the highest-charting debut of his career when “High Road” with Jessie Murph debuted at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June, to selling thousands of tickets both stateside and overseas. He also released a new album 9 Lives in July, and has really taken off in terms of dipping his foot in the more mainstream part of country music, with his first-ever single at country radio.
