CRIMINAL LEGACY: Biden Makes History With Largest Single-Day Act of Clemency

Biden has made history, and headlines, with his merciful swipe of a pen. Apparently that is part of the legacy his White House team is going for in the move they just pulled off. It seems that in lieu of faithfully executing the Office of President, or preserving, protecting, and defending the Constitution (as the Presidential Oath of Office states, taken straight from the Constitution), Biden is settling for the optics of a “merciful god” — and by “god”, in this case I mean lawless tyrant. It isn’t so much that he is pardoning and extending clemency to certain people; though that is part of the issue. But it’s primarily that he is obviously intent on claiming the prize of “Most Commuted Sentences” award. Check out this breaking news clip from Fox News for more detail. In a gesture which I suppose may be intended to steal some of the thunder from the expansive pardon he granted his own son, Biden pardoned 39 and commuted the sentences of approximately 1,500 people today in one fell swoop. BREAKING: President Joe Biden commutes roughly 1,500 sentences and grants 39 pardons in biggest single-day act of clemency in modern US history. https://t.co/CdgD7A87NR — The Associated Press (@AP) December 12, 2024 And he’s not done yet! Biden is planning on passing out even more pardons and extending even more clemencies before he exits the White House. But he has already issued the single greatest number of clemencies in American history, according to Fox News: President Biden has commuted jail sentences for nearly 1,500 people and granted 39 pardons, marking the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history, the White House announced Thursday morning. Sentences were commuted for inmates placed on home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic and who “have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities,” according to the announcement. The 39 individuals pardoned were convicted of non-violent crimes, the White House said. “The President has issued more sentence commutations at this point in his presidency than any of his recent predecessors at the same point in their first terms,” White House officials said in a statement. Biden hinted that he plans to make more pardons an celemencies before he leaves office. “I will take more steps in the weeks ahead. My Administration will continue reviewing clemency petitions to advance equal justice under the law, promote public safety, support rehabilitation and reentry, and provide meaningful second chances,” Biden said. Thursday’s pardons come as the president faces bipartisan criticism for pardoning his son, Hunter, of felony gun and tax charges. For someone who spends half his time complaining that President Trump may pardon those Americans rolled up by the Biden Department of Justice and labeled J6 insurrectionists, Biden certainly has an affinity for extending both pardons and clemency! At this rate, Biden is going to release every Democrat criminal currently in jail or being prosecuted. This is ridiculous. Trump needs to pardon every J6er on day one. pic.twitter.com/iqaOLlwcoE — Tim Young (@TimRunsHisMouth) December 12, 2024 At least those 39 people he pardoned had been convicted of nonviolent crimes. But it’s a shame to have a President — the ranking Executive of the Executive Branch — more focused on pardoning and commuting sentences than enforcing the law to begin with. Though Biden’s attempt at mass applied mercy certainly caught some well-deserving individuals, the methodology of choosing the recipients of Biden’s mercy was decidedly “woke” in nature. Just check out this excerpt from the Associated Press: Those pardoned Thursday had been convicted of nonviolent crimes such as drug offenses and turned their lives around, White House lawyers said. They include a woman who led emergency response teams during natural disasters; a church deacon who has worked as an addiction counselor and youth counselor; a doctoral student in molecular biosciences; and a decorated military veteran. The president had previously issued 122 commutations and 21 other pardons. He’s also broadly pardoned those convicted of use and simple possession of marijuana on federal lands and in the District of Columbia, and pardoned former U.S. service members convicted of violating a now-repealed military ban on consensual gay sex. I’ll be the first one to say that no one should go to jail because the government thinks it has powers to tell you how to live your life that the Constitution never gives it. But it still irks me when the chief “Executor” of justice in the land is so myopically focused on appealing to his “woke” base that you can pinpoint his progressive agenda simply by the category of convictions he chooses to pardon and extend clemency unto. It’s also tragically ironic that someone so intent on ignoring the law in one arena (like immigration), is given the power to mitigate the due process of the justice system. A New York Times analysis of government data shows the immigration surge under Biden’s administration was the largest in US history, and America’s foreign-born population is now at its highest in US history. 60% of immigrants entering America under Biden’s watch did so illegally. pic.twitter.com/XFtBPNQxKu — Frank DeScushin (@FrankDeScushin) December 11, 2024 Those are some incredible numbers. A whopping 60% of people entering the country with the purpose of immigrating did so illegally under Biden’s watch. Here’s a look at the official statement released by the Biden White House to mark the occasion of his record-breaking act of clemency. Already, Biden has surpassed Obama in total number of clemencies issued. But he still has nearly 6 weeks in which to expand that number. It remains to be seen if Hillary, Fauci, and others on the Trump team’s naughty list will receive preemptive pardons in preparation for the feared wrath of President Trump.
