Former President Donald Trump alleged on Monday that Democrats are “interfering” in his 2024 White House bid by rejecting his campaign’s requests for more security. Trump wrote on Truth Social that his campaign has been forced to “turn away thousands of people from arenas and venues” because his requests for more Secret Service agents have not been met. The Republican nominee was the target of two assassination attempts within 64 days. “The Democrats are interfering with my Campaign by not giving us the proper number of people within Secret Service that are necessary for Security. They’re using them for themselves, even though they don’t need them – they draw ‘flies’ – because they have no crowds, and for people like the President of Iran, who is doing everything possible to kill me,” Trump wrote. “We need more Secret Service, and we need them NOW. According to a report released by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs last week, the Secret Service was warned of a “credible threat” four days before the first assassination attempt on Trump. The Secret Service admitted to making numerous mistakes at the Butler rally, and its director, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned shortly after getting grilled by Congress on the security breakdown. Two months after Trump survived the assassination attempt in Butler, another gunman allegedly hid near Trump’s golf course in South Florida for 12 hours before he was spotted by the Secret Service and arrested. Trump plans to return to the site of the first assassination attempt for a rally on Saturday. The Trump campaign said that the former president will honor the life of Corey Comperetore, who was killed by the shooter targeting Trump, and the two other victims who were wounded on July 13.

Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, “Megalopolis,” was a major box office disappointment over the weekend. The Adam Driver-led apocalyptic sci-fi drama cost $120 million to make and earned just $4 million over its first three days. This put the project far behind an animated sci-fi film from DreamWorks called “The Wild Robot.” That family-friendly offering brought in $35 million and the top spot for the weekend box office, per Variety. “Megalopolis” was funded by Coppola himself after he had initially conceived of the movie in the late 1970s. The 85-year-old director is a Hollywood legend with major cinematic achievements under his belt, including “The Godfather” trilogy and “Apocalypse Now.”  Coppola sold a large portion of his California vineyard holdings to help finance the film. “I couldn’t care less about the financial impact whatsoever. It means nothing to me,” the director told GQ in 2022 of his decision to self-finance the project. “It’s not as if $120 million is the extent of what I have.”  “Megalopolis” mainly received negative reviews. It currently has a 49% critics score (Tomatometer) and a 34% audience score (Popcornmeter) on Rotten Tomatoes. “With so little to show for its staggering ambition to synthesize modern New York with the fall of the Roman Empire, Francis Ford Coppola’s all-star, self-financed passion project is a mess, but the lion who made it is still roaring, even in winter,” ABC News reviewer Peter Travers wrote. “A daring saga that boasts far more moments that stumble than soar. It’s a mess that can be admired—but a mess, nonetheless,” the Daily Beast reviewer agreed.  Not every review was negative. The Detroit Tigers, who won seven of their last ten games to make the American League playoffs for the first time in a decade, pulled off an extremely classy move on Friday when they took a team picture to celebrate making the postseason and invited a superfan to join them for the photo. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is reportedly prepared to invade southern Lebanon imminently as it looks to push the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah back several miles, which would allow tens of thousands of Israelis to return to their homes in the north. The operation comes after Israel has decimated Hezbollah’s leadership in recent months, killing hundreds of commanders and wiping out all of the group’s senior commanders in the last couple of weeks, including its leader, Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli commandos have already carried out missions in southern Lebanon in recent days in preparation for the invasion, The New York Times reported. The raids were carried out to identify Hezbollah infrastructure that needed to be destroyed and identify terrorist positions. The Biden-Harris administration aggressively tried to convince Israel not to invade in intense talks they had over the weekend. The administration believes that they were successful in persuading Israel to at least scale back the size of the invasion. Israel Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that the IDF’s “next stage of the war against Hezbollah will soon commence,” which will “constitute a significant factor in changing the security situation.” Am I Racist? The Washington Post reported that the invasion is expected to start “imminently” and will focus on “clearing out militant infrastructure along the border to remove the threat to Israeli border communities.” The news comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a special message to the people of Iran on Monday, telling them that they would soon be free from the oppressive Islamic regime. “There is nowhere in the Middle East Israel cannot reach,” he said. “There is nowhere we will not go to protect our people and protect our country.” “When Iran is finally free, and that moment will come a lot sooner than people think – everything will be different,” he continued. “When that day comes, the terror network that the regime built in five continents will be bankrupt, dismantled.”

Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz has exaggerated his experience traveling to China in the 1990s and early 2000s because he felt proud of it, legacy media claims. Walz led a series of educational trips to China from 1993 through the early 2000s. Walz has, on multiple occasions, pegged the number of trips he took there at “about 30” or “dozens of times.” Walz’s vice presidential campaign recently acknowledged to Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) that the actual number of trips is “closer to 15,” however. “Walz was so proud of his extensive experience abroad that he occasionally used to exaggerate it,” MPR reported. Walz also once claimed to have been in Hong Kong in May 1989, the month before the Tiananmen Square massacre, and witnessed some of the student uprisings that ended in the Chinese government crackdown. Walz’s campaign could not find documentary evidence of his claims. Contemporaneous newspaper accounts suggest that Walz was not in Hong Kong as he claimed. A May 16, 1989, photograph of Walz was taken at the National Guard Armory in Alliance, Nebraska, where Walz served as a social studies teacher from 1991 to 1996. A Nebraska newspaper from August 11, 1989, reported that Walz planned to “leave Sunday en route to China” after having “about given up participating [in WorldTeach] earlier this summer during the student revolts in parts of China.” Walz’s vice presidential campaign could not offer documentation supporting either the claim of the number of times Walz visited China or being present in Hong Kong just ahead of Tiananmen Square. The campaign acknowledged that Walz’s claim to have visited China “about 30 times” is untrue. In defense, the campaign said that Walz exaggerated his experience in China because he was so proud of it, according to MPR. Walz’s extensive experience traveling to China and his past excitement over it have been used by some Republicans to suggest that Walz may be overly sympathetic to the Chinese government, or potentially targeted by Chinese government influence operations. “Throughout his career, Governor Walz has stood up to the [Chinese Communist Party], fought for human rights and democracy, and always put American jobs and manufacturing first,” the Harris-Walz campaign told MPR in a statement. “Republicans are twisting basic facts and desperately lying to distract from the Trump-Vance agenda: praising dictators, and sending American jobs to China.” Am I Racist? Walz’s biography on the site touts his time in the National Guard, his experience as a teacher and coach, his family’s fertility struggles, and many other facets of his background. The biography makes no mention of China, however. Walz’s false claim about his time in China follows similar erroneous claims about other aspects of his career and personal life. Walz has strongly suggested that he was deployed to Iraq during a time of war as a member of the National Guard, though he never was. Walz has also said he retired from the National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major – another false claim. Earlier this year, Walz falsely stated that his family used IVF treatments to conceive in an attack line against former president Donald Trump’s campaign. Although the Walzs had fertility issues, they did not use IVF. The Minnesota governor has also made false claims about his accolades as a teacher, claiming or suggesting that he had won multiple teaching awards that he had never been awarded. Walz has also been found to have made multiple false statements surrounding a 1995 incident in which he was arrested for drunk driving.
