McConnell denounces fellow Republicans for fawning over Hungary’s Viktor Orbán

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has rebuked fellow Republicans over their disturbing “cult of personality” around Hungary’s illiberal ruler, Viktor Orbán. Led by Donald Trump, conservatives have spent years fawning over Orbán, someone who has denounced “mixed-race” countries and whose political party has employed antidemocratic means to stay in power. But tacit support for the Hungarian leader’s bigotry and illiberalism wasn’t why McConnell bashed his fellow conservatives from the Senate...

America’s Young Men Are Falling Even Further Behind

In Spanish, parents call it encaminado: making sure your children are on the path to an independent adulthood. Out of Dan and Joana Moreno ’s four grown kids, only their daughter is encaminada. She recently graduated from business school and got engaged. The Morenos’ three adult sons are still sleeping in their Miami childhood bedrooms. The younger two dropped out of college, and the oldest never went. All three are single. Their only work experience is with the family business.

John Kerry says First Amendment is ‘major block’ to censoring ‘disinformation’

At the World Economic Forum Sustainable Development Impact Meetings in New York City Wednesday, John Kerry, the Biden-Harris administration climate czar and former secretary of state, claimed the First Amendment is not so much about protecting free speech but about putting “disinformation… out of existence.” "If people go to only one source and the source they go to is sick and has an agenda and they’re putting out disinformation," he said, "our First Amendment stands as a major block to the...

U.S. forces in recent days carried out a pair of major airstrikes across Syria, killing key terrorist figures and dozens of fighters linked to the Islamic State and al Qaeda, the Pentagon said Sunday in a statement. U.S. Central Command said the first strike, on Sept. 16, targeted an Islamic State training camp in central Syria. At least 28 ISIS fighters were killed, including four senior leaders, military officials said. On Sept. 24, CENTCOM said it targeted the terror group Hurras al-Din, an...

Rep. Emmer: Vance Has Issues on His Side in Debate

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who has been helping Sen. JD Vance, the GOP vice presidential nominee, prepare for Tuesday night's debate against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, said Sunday that the Ohio senator will "do great because he's got the issues on his side." Emmer, R-Minn., has been acting as a stand-in for Walz to help Vance prepare for their stand-off, and told ABC News' "This Week" that he has spent the last month analyzing Walz's previous performances. "I've known Tim probably since he...

InfoWars’ victims and enemies consider buying it

Some of the subjects of Alex Jones’ darkest and wildest conspiracy theories could end up taking over his iconic, unhinged InfoWars brand in less than two months. Over the past several years, courts in Connecticut and Texas have ruled that the face of the far-right network must pay the families of victims of the 2012 shooting in Sandy Hook nearly $1.5 billion in damages for repeatedly claiming falsely on his show that the shooting never happened. On Tuesday, a Houston judge ruled...

Trump Says He’s in Danger. So Why Did He Seek Out the Embrace of 100,000 Fans?

Chicken tenders and cynicism were flying through the air. It was Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and former President Donald J. Trump was in the bowels of Bryant-Denny Stadium at the University of Alabama, surrounded by screaming football fans. He began hurling boxes of chicken at them. His aides filmed his every movement, uploading the footage to social media. One popular pro-Trump influencer reposted a video of Mr. Trump traipsing through the concourse, writing: “There have been two...
