watchOS 11.2 RC now available to Apple Watch developers

A couple of weeks after the last beta, Apple released watchOS 11.2 RC to Apple Watch developers. At the moment, it’s unclear what’s new with it. Unlike other software updates from Apple, watchOS 11 has already delivered all the features announced at WWDC 2024. With watchOS 11.1, Apple added two Apple Intelligence features powered by iPhone 15 Pro or newer devices, which include: Reduce interruptions: An all-new Focus Mode understands the content of your notifications and shows you the ones that might need immediate attention, like a text about picking up your child from daycare later today. Summarization: Apple Intelligence can summarize all your notifications. Since watchOS 11 is a mild update after a packed watchOS 10 release, it’s unclear what Apple has in store for Apple Watch users. For example, the company unveiled the new sleep apnea detection with watchOS 11. However, it still needs to be rolled out to more countries. With watchOS 11.2 RC, we might see it coming to more regions. Apple says sleep apnea is a potentially serious condition where breathing stops repeatedly during sleep. “The condition, which is estimated to impact more than 1 billion people worldwide, goes undiagnosed in most cases. If left untreated, sleep apnea can have important consequences on health, including an increased risk of hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and cardiac issues.” To detect sleep apnea, the Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to monitor small movements at the wrist that are associated with interruptions in normal respiratory patterns. This is tracked by a new Apple Watch metric called Breathing Disturbances. While some of these disturbances are normal, they are important to track as they can be used to help understand restfulness of sleep and, when occurring frequently over multiple nights, may be associated with sleep apnea. Users can view their nightly Breathing Disturbances in the Health app, where they are classified as elevated or not elevated and can be viewed over a one-month, six-month, or one-year period. Alongside watchOS 11.2 RC, Apple also released the RC versions of tvOS 18.2 and visionOS 2.2. We’ll let you know if we find anything new in these Release Candidate builds. visionOS 2.2 RC now available with a major new feature

Apple just released visionOS 2.2 RC. This new build brings a long-awaited feature: wider Mac Virtual Display options. Mac Virtual Display is one of the OG features of Apple Vision Pro. However, with new wide and ultrawide modes, the spatial computer offers a more immersive experience for professionals to work on a spatial environment. Here’s what this feature is all about: Using Mac Virtual Display is like having an expandable, ultrawide screen that wraps around you. It’s the equivalent of having two 4K displays sitting side by side — everything looks astoundingly sharp and incredibly detailed. Now, with an ultrawide view, Apple says it feels like you have two physical 4K displays sitting side by side on a desk, except you don’t have something limiting the two displays. This Apple Vision Pro feature is perfect for anyone multitasking on a Mac, and it feels better than having several windows floating around. With this feature, you can open several apps at once and visualize them before you with Vision Pro’s incredible displays. Not only will this boost productivity, but it will also make this spatial computer a more compelling upgrade than two Studio Displays, as you can use it for more than just mirroring your Mac once you finish working. Apple is expected to expand Mac Visual Display next week when visionOS 2.2 is expected to be released to all users. While rumors about a new Vision Pro are contradictory, the latest reports expect Apple to update this product next year with a more capable processor, most likely the M5. However, a revamped interaction is still a few years away. Alongside visionOS 2.2 RC, Apple has seeded the Release Candidate versions of watchOS 11.2 and tvOS 18.2. Below, you can learn more about visionOS and other Vision Pro features. ChatGPT Pro: $200 per month for unlimited access to o1 reasoning model

To close out 2024, OpenAI launched its most expensive and enticing paid monthly plan to date. ChatGPT Pro costs $200 per month, giving subscribers unlimited access to the new OpenAI o1 reasoning model as well as o1-mini, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice. ChatGPT Pro is also the only way to use the all-new o1 pro mode, which OpenAI describes as "a version of o1 that uses more compute to think harder and provide even better answers to the hardest problems." OpenAI plans to add even more powerful features to the ChatGPT Pro plan in the future, so subscribers will always be on the cutting edge. In competition with o1 and o1-preview, o1 pro mode regularly outperformed both models. From math and coding to Ph.D.-level science questions, o1 pro mode was consistently more accurate. OpenAI also held its model to a higher standard by only considering a question solved when the model was able to get the answer right four times in a row. If you decide to subscribe to the ChatGPT Pro plan for $200 per month, you'll be able to select o1 pro mode in the model picker. Answers will take longer to generate, but ChatGPT will display a progress bar and send an in-app notification if you click away. OpenAI also took the opportunity to award 10 grants of ChatGPT Pro to medical researchers at leading US institutions and plans to award more in the future. Some of the initial recipients of the GenAI grant include Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School assistant professor Catherine Brownstein, Berkeley Lab computer research scientist Justin Reese, and The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine professor Derya Unutmaz. Check back for more announcements from the 12 Days of OpenAI in the coming days.
