The top enlisted leader of the U.S. Army has issued guidance removing the requirement for diversity to be a factor when choosing upper-level noncommissioned officer positions. Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Weimer recently issued the new guidance, which was obtained by Military.com. While the guidance was aimed at selecting command sergeants major and remained essentially unchanged from previous guidance issued by Weimer’s predecessor, one missing line has made a big difference. The line in question previously directed that diversity be a factor in selecting command sergeant major candidates. The guidance previously read that leaders should “consider diversity to ensure leaders represent our formations.” As Military.com noted, the new guidance also included mundane provisions such as physical fitness being a determining factor for top enlisted leaders in airborne roles. The cut diversity line, however, comes after pressure from Republican lawmakers and others, who have insisted the military under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris has prioritized leftist ideology over military readiness. For example, as The Daily Wire exclusively reported in August, the Biden-Harris administration paid third-party organizations millions of taxpayer dollars to implement diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. In documents reviewed by The Daily Wire, it was revealed that part of the DEI initiatives included race-based career advancement programs. “The documents, first obtained by the Functional Government Initiative, highlight the extent of the Pentagon’s efforts to embed leftwing, race-based ideology in the military, in partnership with academic institutions and consulting firms,” The Daily Wire reported. “The outside organizations received taxpayer dollars to set up hiring pipelines that gave candidates preferential treatment on the basis of race and sex, advise the government agency on DEI policy, and combat internal and external resistance to said policies.” “The U.S. and its allies are facing challenges and threats all over the globe. Despite the increased concern for military preparedness, the DOD continues to prioritize DEI initiatives,” FGI spokesman Peter McGinnis told The Daily Wire. “Rather than maximizing readiness training to ensure a capable military, the DOD’s training seems calculated to foster sowing internal discord with aggressive efforts to promote controversial ideologies,” he added. “Americans join the military to serve their nation and protect the homeland, not to sit through sensitivity training. The DOD owes them better.” In November 2023, The Daily Wire reported that the Department of Defense planned to spend nearly $270 million on DEI initiatives between fiscal years 2022 and 2024. In addition to the removal of the diversity requirement in Weimer’s guidance, he and Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George also replaced the Army slogan “People First,” which focused more on soldier and family needs than war preparedness. Paramount Global initiated a second round of planned layoffs on Tuesday in an effort to reduce overall company costs by $500 million. The layoffs will be 90% complete following Tuesday’s cuts, a report from Deadline stated. An insider told the outlet that most of the layoffs would be in the streaming division, while previous cuts were made in the advertising section of Paramount.  The entertainment giant had 21,900 full- and part-time employees in 33 countries at the end of 2023, along with 4,500 project-based employees. Three percent of those employees were laid off last year. Paramount execs announced in August that the entertainment conglomerate would cut 15% of its U.S. workforce, about 2,000 employees, ahead of a planned merger with Skydance Media. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, urged Vice President Kamala Harris to attend the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner on October 17, warning her that the last presidential nominee who did not attend got blown out in the election. Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell recently moved his family to a new Michigan home after his daughter’s classmate reportedly shared a social media post that revealed their address following the Lions’ playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January. Police reports obtained by The Detroit News show that the Campbell family had unwanted visitors come to their property beginning on New Year’s Eve 2023. The security concerns at the coach’s home intensified after Campbell was criticized for his play-calling in the Lions’ NFC championship game loss on January 28. After the Lions blew a 17-point lead and fell to the 49ers, a classmate of Campbell’s daughter shared a post on Snapchat that called the Lions coach a “dumb f***” and revealed the address of the Campbell family home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Some people showed up at the home at around 11:00 p.m. and “scared” Campbell’s daughter, who was at the home with her boyfriend, according to the police report. “Vehicles and people did show up outside their residence but did not necessarily enter the property,” an investigator wrote in a report. “The boyfriend went outside in his vehicle and flashed his headlights at anyone approaching causing these people to turn off and leave.” “The Campbells were nervous for the safety of their daughter and instructed her to leave the home with her boyfriend for the evening,” the report added. “I assured the Campbells that we would send a patrol unit to the home and extra-patrol it for the evening.” The coach listed the 7,800-square-foot home for $4.5 million last week, Crain’s Detroit Business reported. Campbell’s daughter and the male classmate suspected of posting the family’s address attend an “exclusive private school,” according to The Detroit News. Investigators contacted a security official at the school to discuss the Snapchat post. The classmate’s mother told investigators that her son “re-posted” the Campbells’ address and “the post was only up for 3 minutes.” “[H]e had 30 views on the post, believed it was a fake address, and quickly removed it after he thought about it,” the mother added, according to the police report. The mother argued that the “address is publicly out there online and that her son did not contribute to anyone showing up.” Investigators also questioned the male classmate who allegedly said he “found humor in the [Snapchat] post.” Campbell was widely criticized after the Lions blew their lead against the 49ers with a chance to clinch the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance. Rapper T.I. and his wife, R&B singer Tameka “Tiny” Harris, won $71 million in a lawsuit they brought against the toy manufacturer MGA Entertainment.  The couple claimed that MGA violated their intellectual property rights for the musical group OMG Girlz with the creation of the massively popular L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls. The singing group OMG Girlz included Bahja Rodriguez, Breaunna Womack, and Tiny’s daughter Zonnique Pullins. They disbanded in 2015. The total amount of money awarded includes $17.8 million in real damages, or profits the company made on the toys, and $53.6 million in punitive damages, per Forbes. Jurors found that more than a dozen L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls “infringed on the trade dress and misappropriated the name, image, and likeness of the all-female band that T.I. and Tiny formed in 2009,” per a report from People. MGA argued that it didn’t copy off the “short-lived” band or cost them business opportunities. This lawsuit represents the third time T.I. and Tiny sued over the appearance of the dolls, accusing the company of “cultural appropriation and outright theft.” The first court case ended in a mistrial, and the second jury ruled in favor of MGA before the verdict was overturned on appeal. Former USC running back and NFL star Reggie Bush is suing his alma mater, the Pac-12 Conference, and the NCAA over their use of his name, image, and likeness (NIL) during his college football career. Bush filed a lawsuit alleging the three organizations were compensated handsomely for using Bush’s “significant popularity” to promote college football and the University of Southern California, ESPN reported. Bush’s legal team at McCathern Law issued a press release on Monday announcing the lawsuit. “From the moment Reggie Bush joined USC, the NCAA, USC, and the Pac-12 Conference began capitalizing on his significant popularity. Revenue streams including lucrative TV contracts, merchandise sales, and extensive media rights have generated substantial profits for these organizations, all directly linked to Reggie Bush’s prominence,” the law firm said. “Despite this, Reggie Bush has not received any compensation for the use of his name, image, or likeness. Even after Reggie transitioned to his successful NFL career, these entities continued to benefit financially from his reputation without any acknowledgment of his contribution.” Evan Selik, who works at McCathern Law, said in the press release: “This case is not just about seeking justice for Reggie Bush; it’s about setting a precedent for the fair treatment of all college athletes.
