Bob Andron walks his daughter down the aisle, even though he just met her. This heartwarming story of a father and a daughter meeting for the first time after 50 years began when Bob, who is a Vietnam veteran, had to leave Vietnam and his wife, Lin, in the early 1970s. Bob was a sergeant in the United States Air Force but was forced to leave the country without being able to stay in contact with her. Lin was pregnant with their daughter Linda Throng at the time. It was a different story 50 years ago. Over the years, Bob wondered what happened to Lin and the baby. He then received a call from a genealogist, Kristee Mays, who specializes in reuniting veterans with their lost biological family members. “Linda was born after I left Vietnam. I had been married to her mother,” Bob shares. “And her mother was six months pregnant when I was forced to leave and come to the United States. And she wondered all of her life where I was. As soon as the genealogist matched them as father and daughter, they arranged to meet right away. It Was a Beautiful Reunion When they finally meet, Linda approaches Bob as he walks out of his house, covering his eyes. “I can open ’em?” he asks, and then he does, with the biggest smile on his face. I was, I don’t have any, no other question. I knew right away. That’s my dad,” Linda says about meeting Bob. “It’s taken a long time, hasn’t it?” Bob tells her. “It was so special. It was amazing. She told me something that really tugged my heart, and that was that she just wanted to take care of me,” Bob shared. “And that’s an amazing thing to hear from someone that didn’t even know me.” Linda Told Bob She Would Call Him Every Day Linda told Bob that she would call him almost every day to make up for those 50 missing years. A few months after the meeting, Linda asked Bob if he would walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. Although they did not have this particular tradition in Vietnam, where she grew up, she had seen it in movies and wanted to ask her dad to do so if she ever got married again and found him. On Linda’s wedding day, Bob got to walk his daughter down the aisle. “That brings tears to my eyes because it is so, so unbelievable. There’s no way to even describe it except to say it has made me so happy from the first moment that I found out about it,” Bob says. A Princeton University astrophysicist believes that with the help of a new telescope in Chile, she and her team can confirm exactly what happened after the Big Bang that created the known universe 13.8 billion years ago. Scientists have theorized that by observing the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the remnant of the light left after the explosion of the Big Bang, they could determine how the universe has been inflating ever since. But as astrophysicist Jo Dunkley explained, scientists can “extrapolate backwards and infer what could have happened to produce the patterns we see in the CMB … But there are other scenarios you could imagine that could produce those patterns.” Dunkley told New Scientist’s Jonathan O’Callaghan, “Before we had any of the particles we are familiar with now – protons, neutrons, light and so on – we think the universe was permeated by a different kind of energy. We call it the inflaton field, but we really don’t know exactly what it was. The energy stored in that field drove this exponentially fast growth of space at the beginning of time. Dunkley said she and her colleagues have been using the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) in Chile, but the new telescopes at the Simons Observatory will make the job more accurate. She explained that they want to observe gravitational waves —ripples in the fabric of space-time that “squeeze and stretch space in a particular way; they squeeze in one direction and stretch in another” to see how the light of the CMB is polarized. “We’re looking for this very, very faint polarized signal in the CMB that could only come from gravitational waves,” she stated. But because it’s a tiny signal, and the scientists have to peer through the Milky Way to see it and light from other sources in the galaxy complicates matters as well as water vapor in the atmosphere, the capacity to use both the Simons Observatory in Chile and the BICEP-Keck telescopes at the South Pole could prove crucial to getting a better view because conditions at the two telescopes are different. “We’re looking for variations in what we can think of as the temperature of the CMB that are billionths of a fraction of a degree,” Dunkley said. “The polarized signal is a very subtle departure from something uniform. The Simons Observatory will help because it has tens of thousands of detectors, which is 10 times more than previous generations of telescopes such as the ACT.” “There’s so much richness of information in the CMB,” Dunkley enthused. “I remember a few years ago people thinking we had measured the CMB, and that was it, done. Then we realized how much there is to know, not only in its polarization, but as a backlight through the whole universe. It just keeps producing more exciting stuff.”

A conservative legal firm launched an investigation on Monday into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s over the vice presidential candidate’s “extensive, multi-decade” ties to China. The America First Legal Foundation pressed the Minnesota governor’s office, the FBI, and the Justice Department for documents on Walz’s links to China, according to Freedom of Information Act requests sent to the entities shared with The Daily Wire. The firm said that Walz’s numerous trips to China, and his professional and academic ties to the country could have major national security implications. “Now that he is the official Democrat nominee for Vice President of the United States, Gov. Walz will receive classified national security briefings,” AFL lawyer Michael Ding wrote in a letter to the FBI. “If there is reason to believe that Gov. Walz is, willingly or unwillingly, an asset of a foreign communist power, then the American people have a right to be informed of all available information before they cast their ballots in November.” Walz’s relationship has drawn scrutiny since Vice President Kamala Harris tapped the governor as her running mate. Walz has visited China at least 30 times since the 1980s, and while in Congress was a fellow at China’s Macao Polytechnic University, which says it promotes “devotion to and love for the motherland.” In August, Republicans on the House Oversight Committee launched an investigation into Walz’s connection to China. Oversight Chair James Comer said earlier this month that the FBI has so far ignored his requests for information.  In its request to the governor’s office, AFL asked for all documents that reference CCP-backed “Confucius Institutes” or any communication with China’s Ministry of Education, members of the CCP, and the Beijing Genomics Institute.  “The American people have a right to know if Governor Walz was using his office to further the interests of the PRC and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which employs tactics that seek to influence U.S. lawmakers to achieve policies that are more favorable to China,” America First Legal lawyer Robert Crossin wrote to the Minnesota governor’s office, according to a letter shared with The Daily Wire. “Your prompt production of the requested documents will ensure that the American people can know all the facts before they cast their ballots in November.” Am I Racist? AFL also asked for communications related to China with the Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota.  “Further, former senior national security officials have expressed grave concerns that the Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota is ‘helping a foreign adversary’ by working with Chinese institutions, including the Wuhan Institute of Virology, that ‘have direct ties to the People’s Liberation Army,” Crossin wrote.  The letters argue that the document requests should be expedited because of their relevance to the upcoming presidential election.
