Pumpkin carving season is officially here, and this Halloween jack-o’-lantern is scary cool! In a mesmerizing video on social media, glassblowers performed a unique experiment featuring a recently chiseled gourd. They poured molten glass into the top of the pumpkin so that the hot liquid would come oozing out of its mouth. It’s pretty interesting to see what happens to one of these vegetables when exposed to this high-temperature material! An onlooker captured some fantastic footage of the talented glassblowers filling the jack-o’-lantern with melted glass. It wasn’t long before the pumpkin was engulfed in wild flames! As the heated liquid drizzled into the gourd and out through its features, the edges of the carving began to wilt. It almost looked like the jack-o’-lantern was drooling lava! Some commenters were surprised by the results of this project. One person expected the molten glass to harden inside the jack-o’-lantern, conforming to the shape of the pumpkin. “Not me thinking this would create a flawless mold of a glass pumpkin,” they wrote. Another creative user suggested, “What if you poured it into a pumpkin before cutting it, do you think it would hold its shape?” In another post, the same person who shared a video also shared a photo of the jack-o’-lantern once the glass had hardened. Although the edges of the carved face were a bit singed, the overall aesthetic of the finished product was pretty cool! Unless you’re actually a glassblower, it’s best to stick to the traditional carving method. It’s honestly amazing what you can do with a pumpkin and some tools, no flames required.
