Joyce DeWitt Remembers Late “Three’s Company” Co-Star John Ritter 40 Years After Finale

When Three’s Company premiered in 1977, having two women and a man share an apartment was quite controversial. Jack Tripper, Janet Wood, and Chrissy Snow, played by John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, and Suzanne Somers, had to come up with an outlandish story making Jack gay just so their landlord, Mr. Furley, played by Don Knotts, would let them stay. @3scmpny 4×15 #threescompany #johnritter #jacktripper #joycedewitt #janetwood #chrissysnow #suzannesomers #larrydallas #richardkline ♬ original sound – 3scmpny The show was a hit and aired for eight seasons on ABC. Joyce is the only original roommate still living. Suzanne died in 2023 at age 76 from breast cancer. John, known for his hilarious line delivery and unparalleled penchant for physical comedy, tragically, passed away unexpectedly at age 54 in 2003. Their former co-star, Joyce, shared sweet memories with US Weekly to celebrate the finale’s 40th anniversary. “Three’s Company” Was Special & So Were John Ritter & Suzanne Somers Joyce Dewitt told the news outlet she loved being a part of such an important piece of television history. “The most dear, precious, tender — and utterly unexpected — experiences that have come from working in Three’s Company are the many, many adults who have told me that Three’s Company was a safe haven they could count on during their teen years — for some, the only safe haven,” she said. @3scmpny Happiest of Birthdays to John. I hope he knows how much he means to me. But it was the love, trust, and support of the characters, one to the other, that made them lifelong fans.” This story’s featured image is by ABC Television/Courtesy of Getty Images. Media pushes misleading crime stats to protect the Democrats’ narrative

Crime is a major issue in this year’s election, yet major media ignored the release of a significant new government report showing a surge in violent crime. The increase in violent crime during the Biden administration is a record increase. The latest data released from the Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey reveals a sharp increase in violent crime under the Biden-Harris administration compared to when Donald Trump left office. Much is made of the drop in murder rates over the past few years, but Americans sense that violent crime is on the rise. During the ABC News Presidential Debate earlier this month, David Muir noted: “President Trump, as you know, the FBI says overall violent crime is coming down in this country.” But Muir would have been much more accurate if he said that the number of crimes reported to police fell, which isn’t the same as total crime. Muir might also have conceded, as Trump pointed out in his response, that fewer than half of police departments reported complete data to the FBI in 2022. Since victims don’t report most crimes, the NCVS was set up over 50 years ago to get a measure of total crime. The survey interviews 240,000 people each year. Since 2020, total serious violent crime (rape, robbery, and aggravated assault), the categories that correspond to the FBI’s measure of violent crime, has soared. Total violent crime was 55.4% higher in 2023 than when the Biden-Harris administration took office. Rapes were up by 42%, robbery by 63%, and aggravated assault by 55%. The increases during the Biden-Harris administration are by far the largest percentage increases over any three-year period on record, more than doubling the previous record. Even after several days, the media has failed to mention these huge increases. The Associated Press ran a “fact-check” on Sept. 13 after President Trump held a press conference in California. Relying on a statement from the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ acting director that while the rate of violent victimizations in 2023 was higher than it was in 2020 and 2021, it was not statistically different from the pre-COVID rate in 2019, when Trump was president. Note the AP doesn’t mention whether the rate is statistically different than in 2020 or 2021. Nor does it mention how large the increases are. Trump’s point was that violent crime had increased during the Biden-Harris administration. The rate in 2022 was statistically significantly higher than in either of those previous years. The violent crime rate in 2022 and 2023 was also significantly higher. Total felonious violent crime increased by 19% from 2019 to 2023, and there is only one other time when the increase over four years was larger. Americans in many parts of the country see that products at CVS and Walgreens stores are behind plexiglass. A customer must call for a clerk to unlock the glass and then wait while the customer reads and examines the different packages. Americans know that things were not like this a few years ago. Much is made of the drop in murder rates over the past few years, but Americans sense that violent crime is on the rise. Murders are almost always reported, so the data is relatively reliable. The FBI reports that the murder rate dropped by 13% in 2023, although it remains 5% higher than in 2019. Although the NCVS doesn’t track murder rates, the data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention contradicts the FBI’s figures. While the FBI reports that the murder rate peaked in 2020 and then declined in 2021 and 2022, CDC data indicates that the murder rate was actually higher in 2022 than in 2020 (2022 is the most recent year for which CDC data is available). The news media is trying to protect the Democrats from bad news regarding crime. This is important to many Democrat narratives. Democrats have argued that the flood of illegal aliens can’t be causing crime because crime is down. “The false message of the [Republican National Convention] was that [illegal immigration] was leading to an increase in crime,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg claimed on Fox News Sunday. The news media won’t report the shocking numbers. It knows that Democratic narratives would blow up if word gets out that rape, robbery, and aggravated assault rates are 55% higher than in 2020 and far surpass pre-COVID levels. Should women date gamers? Should gamers watch 'Titanic'?

A couple of weeks ago, Liz Wheeler went viral on X for a post that listed men’s least attractive hobbies according to women. While Wheeler (and now the community note) clarified that the statistics presented were satirical, it still managed to stir up quite a bit of controversy. The top hobby on the imaginary “most hated” list was video games. What if regularly spending six consecutive hours playing video games isn’t bad because it’s unattractive but because it’s actually unhealthy? Predictable gender war crossfire ensued. Men hissed back: “Women like you assume your company is more interesting and valuable than a good video game. You are incorrect.” “Women really do hate when men are happy doing something that isn’t centered around them.” “Well, we're not going to sit around and watch the Titanic for the tenth time.” On one hand, it is understandable to feel defensive when you perceive that something you personally enjoy or take pride in is generalized and belittled. This is the essence of stereotyping, and no one has the stomach for it any more. On the other, is the response proportional to the perceived offense, which was simply an expression of preference? The internet has become a battleground for gendered infighting, and the constant bickering has done nothing but send us farther into our respective corners. We all want to generalize but not be generalized. Meme warfare offends this sensibility. It’s not for the faint of heart. But — and hear me out — stereotypes exist for a reason. What if regularly spending six consecutive hours playing video games isn’t bad because it’s unattractive but because it’s actually unhealthy? In other words, what if it’s unattractive to women because it’s bad for men, not bad for men because it’s unattractive to women? There's growing evidence to suggest that gaming can be just as addictive as gambling, leading to withdrawal from and loss of interest in social life and problems at school and work. According to recent study on what's been termed internet gaming disorder:Current prevalence estimates of IGD vary widely (2–15%). ... Prevalence may be underestimated due to low response (surveys take time away from gaming) and underreporting (a criterion of IGD is hiding one's extent of internet gaming). Yet, even by conservative estimates, with 318 million people in the US playing digital games, at least 5 million (probably many more) meet criteria for IGD, experiencing personal, social, and academic difficulties. Perhaps women’s intuition isn’t as shallow as some have made it seem. Perhaps hard-core gaming, as the study suggests, indicates a deeper problem that impedes long-term social success in life. It’s too easy to dismiss Wheeler and the women who agree with her as nagging busybodies who just don’t like it when men “have fun.” Maybe some of them are. But maybe, deep down, some of these guys don’t like their reflection. Accountability is a bitter pill. Distraction is easier. That said, on the particular level, does it really matter if a guy is a gamer as long as he isn’t hopelessly addicted and antisocial about it? If a gamer finds a woman and they fall madly in love, is he still “unattractive”? Certainly not to his sweetheart. And conversely, if you’re a woman who finds gaming unattractive, don’t date a gamer. It really is that simple. Who cares? As one commenter said, “Attraction is subjective; hobbies don’t define someone’s worth or attractiveness. Crazy thought: Maybe we let people enjoy what they love without reducing their value based on personal preferences for entertainment.” Well said.

The C-section scam: 'It's manipulation'

The C-section scam: 'It's manipulation'

Americans throughout the country are waking up to the possibility that the medical industry might not always have their best interest in mind, and surgeon Dr. Marty Makary is one of the men leading the charge. Now, he’s sounding the alarm on the way women are treated while giving birth in the hospital and what it means for the future of their children. “We’ve seen the group think and medicine downplay these best practices in childbirth that we now recognize have dramatic benefits,” Makary tells Allie Beth Stuckey of “Relatable.” “A delayed clamping of the umbilical cord once the baby is born. That umbilical cord is pulsating healthy stem cells and fetal hemoglobin which binds oxygen really well, and it’s warm blood infused directly into the child’s circulation to keep the baby warm,” he explains. However, as a medical student, Makary was taught to immediately cut the umbilical cord, the second the baby came out. Those in the medical industry are also taught to whisk the baby away from his mother after just minutes — but skin-to-skin contact for hours after birth leaves the baby with a normal heart rate and blood pressure, and the baby is less likely to need an ICU stay. The baby also has a normal glucose level, because when the mom holds the baby, the stress hormones are not spiking as high, which changes glucose levels. Not only does he take issue with those common practices, but he relays to Stuckey that C-sections and antibiotics are often unnecessary. “Sixty percent of antibiotics are unnecessary, and an estimated 40% of C-sections are unnecessary,” he tells Stuckey. “Mothers are unfairly, inappropriately told there’s no difference. You can deliver vaginally or by C-section, your choice.” However, the microbiome in the gut forms differently when the baby is born by C-section versus vaginally. “The gut of a baby in utero is sterile. There’s no bacteria in there. How do we get our millions of different bacteria that live in this harmony and then are involved in digestion and immunity and mental health? Well, a baby passes through the birth canal and the bacteria of the vaginal canal seeds the microbiome, augmented by bacteria from breast milk, especially in the first hour from skin contact,” he explains. Babies born by C-section also have higher rates of asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome — and there may even be a connection between people born via C-section and higher rates of colon cancer. “If you as a doctor tell a woman in labor anywhere in the world, a C-section might be safer for your baby, then 100% of women are going to say, 'Well then do it, right now,' right? It’s manipulation if it’s not based on good scientific data,” Makary explains. Stuckey had C-sections with her first two births and delivered her last one vaginally. “I was definitely, with my first birth, one of those people that was pressured in all different kinds of ways,” Stuckey says, adding, “They dropped the, ‘Oh, maybe you’ll have a stillborn baby thing.’ Which, there was no indication of that at all. She was perfectly healthy.”Want more from Allie Beth Stuckey? To enjoy more of Allie’s upbeat and in-depth coverage of culture, news, and theology from a Christian, conservative perspective, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

What to expect at Meta Connect 2024 — the next Quest VR headset

Image: Meta Meta is holding its annual Connect developers conference next week, and it’s going to showcase a bunch of expected and perhaps some surprise new VR and AR hardware — alongside what might be a heavy Meta AI showcase featuring the company’s newest Llama large language model and image generator in apps like WhatsApp. And as Meta sunsets custom tools for AR filters, we could end up seeing a whole new set of developer tools designed to harness generative AI experiences. Perhaps it will all come together in Meta’s next big push into its alternative reality ideas (and namesake) in the metaverse, including significant Horizon Worlds updates. However, the most anticipated products expected to appear during the conference are the successor to the... Continue reading…
