California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom is being sued by a group over Assembly Bill 1955, which bars schools from notifying parents about their child’s desire to change their sex and be referred to by incorrect pronouns. Newsom signed the bill into law on July 15. The bill states, “This bill would prohibit school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, and the state special schools, and a member of the governing board or body of those educational entities, from enacting or enforcing any policy, rule, or administrative regulation that requires an employee or a contractor to disclose any information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person without the pupil’s consent unless otherwise required by law, as provided. The bill would prohibit employees or contractors of those educational entities from being required to make such a disclosure unless otherwise required by law, as provided.” “This law is an attack on fundamental parental rights,” America First Legal, which is suing Newsom, stated. “It prevents school districts from requiring parental notification if their child begins to exhibit gender confusion, such as by requesting to be called by a name and pronoun of the opposite sex. The law does not set an age limit—schools cannot notify parents even if preschoolers are being socially ‘transitioned.’ It also prevents schools from disciplining employees who are initiating or facilitating social ‘transitioning,’ which courts have recognized is a type of medical intervention or treatment that medical professionals have recognized can inflict serious short-term and long-term harm.” “This law violates the 14th Amendment, which guarantees the rights of parents to make decisions about their minor children regarding all medical treatment—in this case, social ‘transitioning,’” America First continued. “Fit parents are presumed to act in the best interest of their child. The government cannot intervene in their relationship simply because it does not like the parents’ decision. Whether a child socially ‘transitions’ or announces their sexuality is a personal and private issue, not an educational issue or one to be decided by the government. The State of California is thus intruding in a very personal, private matter—communication on one of the most intimate of topics between a parent and child—in violation of the U.S. Constitution.” In September 2022, AFL sued the  Eau Claire Area School District, Wisconsin, over its policy of “hiding critical information regarding a child’s health from his or her parents.” In November 2023, AFL sued Mesa Public Schools for promoting “gender transitions” of students without alerting their parents.

Wikipedia editors are pushing to delete a page on Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Sunday, arguing that Routh is not notable because he was prevented from harming Trump. Routh’s page is listed as nominated for deletion, and editors are currently debating its fate. On Sunday, Trump was targeted at his West Palm Beach golf course by a suspect who pointed an AK-47-style rifle through a fence about 400 yards away from the former president. Secret Service opened fire on the suspect, who fled. Routh was later arrested and charged. Trump remained safe and unharmed during the incident. It was the second assassination attempt on Trump’s life since July 13 when Trump suffered a bloody gunshot to his ear at a Pennsylvania rally. Wikipedia’s editors were not concerned. “Nothing really happened here. The event itself might not even warrant its own article,” one Wikipedia editor wrote of Sunday’s assassination attempt. “The man didn’t even get close,” wrote another. “This guy is not gonna remain notable enough to get his own page a week from now.” “All that happened yesterday was that someone was found with a gun in a bush at Trump’s golf course. No injuries at all — Routh didn’t even let off any shots,” another person wrote. “I second deletion. Let us stop making an article for every idiot who trespasses with intentions to commit a felony. We are not a Tabloid! Delete immediately or lose the credibility as an Encyclopedia,” wrote another editor. Despite its stated commitment to producing accurate, crowd-sourced articles, Wikipedia’s left-leaning bias has been well documented. A Manhattan Institute report found that Wikipedia articles tend to associate negative emotions like “anger and disgust” with right-leaning public figures and positive emotions like “joy” with left-leaning public figures. Wikipedia is the seventh-most visited domain on the internet, with tens of millions of people reading Wikipedia articles every day. American politics and Donald Trump in particular rank near the top for the most popular articles. Some editors argued Routh should only be mentioned on the page about “security incidents involving Donald Trump.” Other Wikipedia editors pushed back on deleting Routh’s page. “Just when does an attempted Presidential assassin become notable? When he succeeds in getting a shot off?” one editor asked. “This seems like a cover-up by Harris stans,” wrote another. “Pretty obvious why some editors want this [page] binned. Yet, we have ‘Thomas Matthew Crooks,’ who outside of an initial flurry of coverage, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll get additional details around what motivated him or his background,” wrote another editor. Crooks was the gunman who shot Trump in the ear in July. He was killed by a Secret Service sniper. One Wikipedia editor pointed out that Trump is also the current Republican nominee and noted that the FBI said Routh had been lying in wait for Trump for nearly 12 hours. “Let the people see the facts as they are publicly known,” that editor said. “Otherwise, the attempt to delete this article is just another censorship attempt. What else do you need… a conviction?” “If you try to assassinate a president or former president of the United States, you will most certainly make it into the history books. I don’t think I need to state the obvious,” another wrote. “Two assassination attempts in one election cycle is unprecedented,” another person added. “He’s also an oddball, the information online about him and his motives tell an interesting story that is unique. He probably has the largest digital footprint of any attempted or successful US presidential assassin.” Routh has a colorful background. The 58-year-old’s online history shows he held anti-Trump views and was obsessed with the Ukraine war, which he spoke about in a 2022 interview with Newsweek. Routh even traveled overseas hoping to fight in Ukraine’s military against Russia. Routh also has a decades-long criminal history that includes writing bad checks, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, a hit-and-run, resisting arrest, and a concealed weapons violation. Still, some Wikipedia editors remained unconvinced. One editor dismissed the FBI labeling the incident an assassination attempt, saying Routh “did not even shoot close to Trump.” “This is less of an assassination attempt as it is a security incident or foiled plan,” another editor wrote. “This is getting absurd. This man has little to no notability,” another person said. Another editor pointed out that Wikipedia does not have pages for the man who tried to grab a police officer’s gun at a Trump rally in 2016 and admitted he wanted to kill Trump. “I feel like a person grabbing a cops gun [sic] is not the same as police opening fire on a guy aiming at trump [sic],” another editor responded. One editor also pointed out that there is a Wikipedia page for Squeaky Fromme, a member of the Manson family who attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975. Ford saw two attempts on his life in 17 days. Trump has seen two attempts on his life in just over two months. Routh appeared in federal court Monday morning and was charged with both possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. As of Wednesday evening, his Wikipedia page was still live.

Rep. James McGovern (D-MA) believes that the 60% of Teamsters union members who back Donald Trump are “uninformed,” expressing disappointment after union leaders decided not to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a union of more than 1.3 million members, released internal polling showing that Trump was supported by the union members over Harris 59.6% to 34%. The new internal poll showed a significant swing among union members in favor of Trump after Biden dropped out of the race. Members previously supported Biden over Trump 44.3% to 36.3%. The Teamsters, which endorsed the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1996, said it would not endorse a candidate this year, adding that Harris would have only needed to gain “majority support” for an endorsement while Trump would have needed “universal support.” McGovern, who routinely slams “MAGA Republicans,” said that Teamsters members who support Trump are “misinformed or uninformed.” “It’s clear that these workers are misinformed or uninformed about Trump’s record on labor. He is the most anti-labor president we have ever had, and his allegiance isn’t toward working people,” he said, according to The Washington Times. “Look at his plans for a tax cut. I mean tax cuts for rich people, but not for people in the middle class.” McGovern joined other House Democrats who expressed frustration with the Teamsters withholding an endorsement of Harris. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said she was “disappointed” with Teamsters President Sean O’Brien, saying she finds his “behavior, especially after he went out to eat at Mar a Lago with Donald Trump, to be a questionable change in his pattern.” “At the end of the day, we know that when the Teamsters are in trouble, who do they call when they need to make sure that Teamsters pensions are bailed out?” she added, “When they need to make sure that they have a fair shake at the negotiating table? Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced this week that Missouri would move to obtain merits discovery in its lawsuit targeting the Biden-Harris administration for allegedly working with social media giants such as Meta, Twitter, and YouTube to censor and suppress free speech. A motion for discovery requests the court to compel the opponent to relinquish information; thus, information the Biden-Harris administration may have wanted to conceal would be brought to light. The lawsuit was originally filed by former Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry in 2022. A new poll out Wednesday revealed that 17% of voters — and more than one in four Democrats — believe that America would be better off if former President Donald Trump had been shot and killed at his golf club on Sunday afternoon. The poll, conducted by Scott Rasmussen’s RMG Research for Napolitan News Service, asked 1,000 registered voters to weigh in on the latest news reports regarding the attempt on Trump’s life — the second assassination attempt he’s faced in just the last eight weeks.
