So we put our suspicions to the test by investigating baby food made by Target’s house brand Good & Gather. We purchased samples of non-organic Good & Gather Baby Apple Fruit Puree and Good & Gather Baby Pear Fruit Puree from Target stores in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, and online. Then we sent them to an independent lab for testing. We found a cocktail of 21 different pesticides — a term that includes insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides — in Target’s baby food, including neonicotinoids. We also found metabolites from a class of neurotoxic pesticides called organophosphates. These chemicals have been linked to birth defects of the heart and brain, learning disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, damage to the nervous system and hormone disruption. Neonicotinoids are also among the most ecologically disastrous pesticides since DDT. U.S. agriculture has become nearly 48 times more toxic to insects, including essential pollinators like bees, since the introduction of neonicotinoids. And they are a critical factor driving over 200 endangered species toward extinction, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Organophosphate pesticide metabolites (meaning the breakdown products of pesticides) were also found in 100% of the baby food samples. Scientists have called for a complete ban on organophosphates, as they are known to be highly toxic to children’s developing brains, even at low levels of exposure. They are associated with reduced IQ, attention disorders, delayed motor development and learning disabilities. They have also been shown to harm bees, birds and aquatic organisms like fish. In addition, 10 of the pesticides found in Target’s baby food are linked to endocrine disruption. Incredibly small amounts of endocrine-disrupting chemicals — the equivalent to one drop in 20 Olympic swimming pools — can alter brain development, hormones, immune systems and more. “The pesticides in Target’s baby food were detected at levels below the limits set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). However, the standards set by the EPA are outdated, influenced by the powerful pesticide industry, and fail to account for the best and most recent science. Because the agency doesn’t follow the latest science, the EPA has failed to ban dozens of toxic pesticides that are outlawed in the European Union. According to reports, multiple attendees of the Donald Trump rally in Tucson, Arizona, said they experienced mysterious symptoms and sought medical attention. “Many supporters seated behind Trump onstage went to the ER after the rally with ‘blurred vision’ and ‘burning’ to the eyes,” Arizona Globe journalist Christy Kelly said. “I spoke to several who still have not fully recovered. Approximately 20 attendees, primarily members of the “Latinos for Trump” group who had been onstage, reported becoming ill with mysterious symptoms shortly after the rally concluded. All those who reported falling ill were seated on the side of the stage where Trump made his entrance before approaching the podium. Pastor Eli Moreno, who opened the rally with prayer, and his wife, Francesca Moreno, were among those affected. Pastor Moreno said that he experienced mild discomfort, but his wife’s symptoms were far more severe. On their drive home, Mrs. Moreno’s nose began to run, her vision blurred, and her face swelled up. They stopped at a Walgreens and encountered another rallygoer with similar symptoms. Mrs. Moreno stated that emergency room doctors flushed her eyes earlier and referred her to an ophthalmologist. Five days later, she was just beginning to feel better. Mayra Rodriguez, another attendee, also fell ill 30 minutes after leaving the rally, experiencing burning eyes and a severe headache. By the time she arrived at the emergency room, she could no longer open her eyes. After performing a dye test, the doctor informed her that she had suffered a chemical burn. Days later, she continued suffering from blurry vision and light sensitivity. Several other attendees shared similar stories with The Arizona Globe. The reported symptoms, including blurred vision, severe eye pain, and facial swelling, appeared roughly 30 minutes after the rally ended. One attendee used milk to ease the burning before heading to the hospital, while another reported his face turning red and peeling. They stated that the emergency room staff told them they were not alone—multiple patients from the rally had come in with the same complaints. “The Trump campaign has been collecting information. We remain committed to the countless patriots that attend our high-energy, high-impact rallies across the country,” a Trump campaign senior advisor said. Her brother told us, “It was all focused on my eyes, my eyes were red like hell you know, it’s unbearable. I couldn’t handle it.” The other supporters who did not agree to on camera told us about very similar injuries. One woman who is a local realtor said she had to cancel all her showings over the weekend because she couldn’t see well. Rodriguez said she reported her experience to the Trump campaign and was told it was investigating. The House of Representatives has failed to pass a stopgap government funding bill that would have kept funding at current levels until March 28, 2025. The bill also included a provision requiring proof of citizenship nationwide for voter registration.
