He also said that from the Big 4, Megadeth was thrashier than Metallica and Slayer was the most Thrash Metal band of the four. For a few decades already the drummer Alex Van Halen became the most recluse member of the band and rarely gave interviews. After years without saying a lot in social media or to the press, the drummer will release an autobiography called "Brothers", which will also talk about his late legendary brother and bandmate Eddie Van Halen. The Metallica vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter James Hetfield is a fundamental part of the band but although they started fundamentally as a Thrash Metal group, the members have many different influences that don't come only from Heavy Metal. Hetfield for example is a huge fan of the Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, which was a huge influence for him when he was growing up. Over the decades he talked about the band and revealed which is one of his favorite songs of the band. He also had the chance to perform on stage with the late Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington. The Lynyrd Skynyrd song James Hetfield said is one of his favorites When Lynyrd Skynyrd released their self-titled debut album in 1973, James Hetfield was only 10 years-old and in the following years he became a huge fan of the group. In an interview with Rolling Stone back in 2004 he listed his 10 favorite songs of all time and one of them was "Free Bird". “Nothing tops this workingman’s ballad. ‘Free Bird’ fit my life for the first 20 years on the road. Not really getting too attached to stuff, living life for the moment and moving on,” James Hetfield said. In 2011 on the celebration show of Metallica's 30th birthday, the band invited many legendary artists to perform a few songs with them. In 2019, during a concert in Birmingham, Alabama, Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo played a snippet of "Sweet Home Alabama" in the middle of the show. Frontman Perry Farrell assaulted guitarist Dave Navarro during Friday’s (9/13) Jane’s Addiction concert at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, MA. The incident happened late in the band’s set, near the end of the song “Ocean Size.” Farrell aggressively bumped shoulders with Navarro and got in the guitarist’s face and swore at him. A confused Navarro asked what was going on before he stopped playing and put a hand up to Farrell’s chest. At this point, the singer appeared to throw a punch at Navarro before being held back by a roadie and bassist Eric Avery who proceeded to restrain Perry as the road crew surrounded Farrell and forced the singer offstage. Navarro, who appeared upset by the altercation, threw a pick into the crowd before leaving the stage. But there was more… Upstage, in the dark, Avery punched Ferrell in the stomach three times. Roadies pulled the bassist away, who then went to the front of the stage to be with the other band members to apologize to audience for the show ending early. Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins, hugged onstage and expressed their appreciation to the crowd. Backstage Ferrell had a sobbing breakdown. So what triggered Ferrell? First, he may have been intoxicated/high. He was also upset that the band started “Oceans Size” before Perry was ready. In addition, Perry felt the band was playing too loud, a complaint he’d expressed night after night, and that he had to scream the lyrics to be heard… though at this particular show he reportedly had been mumbling the lyrics throughout. Contributing to the brewing troubles, there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the band members as Ferrell dealt with tinnitus and a sore throat every night of the tour.
