Footage from South Carolina shows a CSX train smashing into a semi-truck carrying a tank. The crash happened at a railroad crossing in Goose Creek, South Carolina, which is near Charleston. “Wild video captured earlier this afternoon in Goose Creek, South Carolina shows an 18-wheeler carrying a military tank getting stuck on railroad tracks and being struck by a CSX freight train. Numerous bystanders witnessed the incident,” Rawsalerts wrote. “Officials reported that the truck, using a lowboy trailer to transport an M109 Paladin Howitzer tank, became stuck while crossing the tracks. The oncoming train collided with the truck, causing significant damage,” the post continued. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the driver refused treatment. ‘It’s not every day you see a tank get smashed by a train,’ some workers joked,” it added. In a video obtained by WCNC Charlotte, the truck driver can be seen fleeing the truck moments before the train impacts his trailer. No one was injured in the crash, according to the Goose Creek Police Department. Portions of the roadway, identified as Liberty Hall near Redbank Road, were closed for an extended period of time because of the extensive damage to the intersection. Wow! From the… pic.twitter.com/NXUJ5sxuds — John Cremeans USA (@JohnCremeansUSA) September 12, 2024 WATCH: From The Post and Courier: CSX spokesperson Austin Staton confirmed to The Post and Courier that a train struck a lowboy semitruck near the Liberty Hall Road crossing just after 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 12. No injuries were reported, and passenger service has not been impacted, Staton said. The cause of the incident is under investigation. The artillery vehicle was being transported to the Joint Base Charleston weapons station when the collision occurred, a spokesperson told The Post and Courier. The Goose Creek Police Department, which had several units present at the scene, did not respond to requests for comment prior to publication. Scratches and dents along the CSX’s second engine were visible from the road. It is unclear how extensive the damage to the train, trailer and artillery vehicle sustained in the collision may be.
