It’s official. Pop superstar Taylor Swift is on Team Kamala. What does it mean? That depends on both Vice President Harris and how much Swift wants to invest in her presidential campaign. Some background is in order. Swift soared to superstardom without getting her hands dirty in politics. That changed in the wake of the 2016 presidential election. A certain real estate mogul stunned the world, and the press turned on Swift for having stayed out of the fray. Need an example? The Daily Beast insinuated she’s sympathetic to white supremacists for not denouncing their love for her. The singer eventually declared a major. She embraced the Democratic Party and threw her support behind both Joe Biden and other leftists running for office. They even made a movie about her transformation – the Netflix documentary, “Miss Americana.” In 2023, she hit the road and became the biggest act in the world. And, along the way, she stuck to the music. No lectures. No social media messages attacking Donald Trump or boosting Biden policies. She shut up and sang. And, for what it’s worth, reigned over pop culture in a way not seen since Michael Jackson or The Beatles. Yet she’s been shockingly silent on politics in 2024. She watched the various primary battles come and go without flexing her social media might (95 million X followers … 284 million on Instagram). Am I Racist? ONLY In Theaters Tomorrow—Get Your Tickets Now! Even during the heat of the Biden/Trump battles she stayed quiet. She didn’t even push the media’s brief but embarrassing “cheap fake” narrative to explain away Biden’s senior moments. Days before the first (and only?) Trump-Harris debate Variety Magazine bullied Swift into taking a side. And there’s only one possible side, of course. Swift finally took the plunge on debate night. “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she wrote. “I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.” Now what? She’s already proven to be a boost to voting rolls. In the past, she’s promoted voter registration efforts and found some success. Will those “new” voters actually flex their constitutional might on November 5? That remains to be seen. The biggest way to influence this election is to convince the independents and wall sitters alike. Can a major celebrity’s social media musings do the trick? We’ve collectively downgraded our views on political stars in recent years. When the umpteenth celebrity vows to leave the country if Politician X wins, and then they stay put post-election, it hurts their collective cred. So does the fact that mega-stars can ride out high inflation and soaring crime rates while most people can’t. It explains why the recent DNC convention tapped the brakes a bit on its celebrity quotient. Even actor Zach Galifianakis, who previously promoted both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama with his comedy, warned against playing the celebrity card too hard in 2024. Swift is all toured out at the moment, so she can’t bring her pro-Harris message to stages across the country. That could have made her voice heard by thousands of adoring fans and, in turn, sparked a series of news stories about her proclamations. The corporate press would be only too happy to spread that message. She also could work the late-night TV circuit to promote her music and the Harris/Walz ticket. That audience is already sold on the Democrats, so few hearts or minds would be changed there. Swift’s biggest advantage could be pushing out fake news to her flock. Millions follow and at least partially trust her on a variety of issues. So if Swift tag-teams with the corrupt corporate press that could have a distinct pro-Harris benefit. Imagine if she boosted the “bloodbath” media lie from earlier in the election cycle to taunt Trump. Countless Swifties would assume she was sharing actual news. Yet that seems unlikely. Why? Her pro-Harris statement wasn’t brimming with the usual celebrity bile. Yes, she picked a side, but she didn’t demean Trump or his fan base. She also waited forever to pick a side this election season, suggesting her heart isn’t quite into it. Can you blame her? She’s also protective of her brand to a fault. Her apolitical past wasn’t an accident, nor was her staying on the political sidelines during 2023’s Eras Tour. Everything is a calculation. Even if it appears she’s working alongside the Harris/Walz campaign it could ding her brand in some quarters. That seems like a losing proposition for the starlet. Plus, after having done all that “research” on Harris she must know she’s an empty suit saying whatever it takes to win come November. And if the polls show Trump has momentum in the campaign’s waning weeks she may decide to go quiet again. In the end, Swift’s endorsement matters, but she could be preaching to a considerable choir. On an earnings call, the CEO of Kroger, the third-largest grocery chain in the U.S. behind Walmart and Costco, revealed that the cost of groceries is now affecting even customers who would not be as “budget conscious.” “The reduction of excess savings built up during the pandemic, higher interest rates and the effect of inflation are pressuring customers’ ability to spend,” Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen stated on the company’s quarterly earnings call. “This is especially true for our most budget conscious customers, as we’ve been seeing for a while now, but we’re now seeing other customer segments beginning to make changes as well. Customers are purchasing lower-price cuts of meat, buying less, and focusing on essentials.” McMullen added that Kroger, which is expected to merge with Albertsons, the sixth-largest grocery chain in the nation, is responding by “keeping prices low through promotions, including loyalty, discounts, personalized offers and fuel rewards,” Supermarket News reported. “The food industry has always been competitive and will continue to be after this merger. We are committed to closing this merger because bringing Kroger and Albertsons together will provide meaningful and measurable benefits — lower prices, secure jobs and expanded access to fresh, affordable food — for customers, associates, and communities across the country,” McMullen added. In February, The Wall Street Journal reported, “It’s been 30 years since food ate up this much of your income. The last time Americans spent this much of their money on food, George H.W. Bush was in office, ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ was in theaters, and C+C Music Factory was rocking the Billboard charts. Eating continues to cost more … In 2022, consumers spent 11.3% of their disposable income on food, according to the most recent USDA data available.” In April 2023, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City noted, “Food inflation has been above headline measures of inflation since early 2022. … Growth in the price of processed food has driven inflation for food at home since 2022.”

The U.S. maritime industry is “dangerously” reliant on China potentially opening the door for the Chinese Communist Party to gain access to critical American infrastructure, according to a new report from House Republicans. In a report released Thursday, House Republicans on the Committee on Homeland Security and Select Committee on the CCP said that the use of Chinese manufactured equipment and technology at American ports jeopardized national security. The report specifically focused on Chinese-government owned ZPMC, a major manufacturer of cranes used at ports across the country. “The evidence gathered during our joint investigation indicates that ZPMC could, if desired, serve as a Trojan horse capable of helping the CCP and the PRC military exploit and manipulate U.S. maritime equipment and technology at their request,” the committee said in a statement. “This vulnerability in our critical infrastructure has the potential to affect Americans from coast to coast.” The report accuses ZPMC of leveraging cheap labor and subsidized steel to sell cranes around the world at non-competitive prices, flooding the world market. The lawmakers found that around 80% of ship to shore cranes used at ports in the U.S. come from ZPMC. According to the lawmakers, ZPMC is owned by the China Communications Construction Group, which has had “significant involvement in militarizing the South China Sea.” The lawmakers said that this reliance was a cybersecurity risk because ZPMC or one of its contractors had installed cellular modems on cranes at ports in the U.S. “ZPMC has repeatedly requested remote access to its STS cranes operating at various U.S. ports, with a particular focus on those located on the West Coast,” the report said. “If granted, this access could potentially be extended to other PRC government entities, posing a significant risk due to the PRC’s national security laws that mandate cooperation with state intelligence agencies.” Am I Racist? Other vulnerabilities in the American maritime industry include the fact that portions of the ports of Long Beach, Seattle, Los Angeles, Houston, and Miami are controlled by the China Merchants Group and COSCO Shipping, two state-owned companies. The lawmakers included several recommendations in their 50-page report on what actions the U.S. should take to bolster its maritime security. These included having the Coast Guard issue guidance telling ports to disassemble any connection between ZPMC cranes to cellular modems. They also recommended that the Commerce Department analyze U.S. capacity to increase manufacturing of crane technology and increasing security at U.S. ports.

Researchers recently reopened the tomb of a centuries-old saint and found themselves “stunned” to discover that the remains were still recognizable.As reported in the New York Post, a group of Discalced Carmelites, a mendicant order of Catholicism, reopened the tomb of St. Teresa of Avila, a co-founder of their order who died in 1582 and was canonized in 1622.The members of the Diocese of Avila in Spain reopened the tomb “as part of an intricate process to study the relics of St. Teresa’s heart, hand and arm.” The last time it had been opened was 1914, during which the tomb was photographed.The nuns and monks, during this recent reopening, took great pains to ensure the tomb was undamaged in the process. “The process to reach the silver urn that Saint Teresa’s body has is very complex,” the diocese said in a translated press release. “First, the marble slab in the tomb had to be removed. Later, in the room set up for the studies to which the Saint’s major relics will be subjected—and only with the presence of the scientific medical team and the members of the ecclesiastical court—has the silver tomb been opened.”When the tomb itself was finally uncovered, the visible parts of St. Teresa’s remains, her face and foot, were compared to those 1914 photographs. In the press release, Fr. Marco Chiesa notes that those parts “are the same as those they were in 1914.”“There is no color, there is no skin color because the skin is mummified,“ Chiesa continues, “but it is seen, especially in the middle of the face.” The release noted that “expert doctors see Teresa’s face almost clearly.”Saint Teresa of Avila, also known as Saint Teresa of Jesus, was born Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda Dávila y Ahumada in 1515. A pivotal figure in the period known as the Contrareformatio, or Counter-Reformation, St. Teresa co-founded the Discalced Carmelites with Saint John of the Cross in 1562. Known today through her religious writings like The Interior Castle, which posited that there were “seven mansions” within the “castle of the soul,” St. Teresa holds special significance within the movement of Catholic mysticism.Her life, as chronicled in her autobiography La Vida de la Santa Madre Teresa de Jesús, still fascinates many Catholics, particularly within the Discalced Carmelite order, and this re-examination of her relics could shed greater light on her later years. “Sometimes,” Chiesa told the New York Post,“ looking at a body, you discover more than the person had [spoken about].“We know that the last few years were difficult for her to walk,” Fr. An anonymous listener (she asked Dave Schrader to not say her name) shared a bizarre story that took place at a Minnesota ski resort.“In 1975, a ski resort opened about an hour from the Twin Cities next to the St. Croix River. It was not huge and it sat in a sparsely populated area in Minnesota. It was new and it was in an age when there were no cellphones or iPods. All the kids in the school wanted to go there. I joined our school ski club and we went every Thursday. Often enough I got to know the owner and would talk to him about skiing and sometimes ski with him. In 1977 I joined the Navy and went away. Whenever I got leave and came home, it was winter time. I would go to the resort and ski. Each time I would renew my friendship with the owner and join him on the trails to ski until closing time.One winter I came home and as usual decided to go to the resort. This was a Wednesday. My sister, niece, and one of her friends asked to come with me so we made a night of it. When we arrived at the resort I found myself behind the rental counter. We talked for a while then I made my way to the slopes. The owner was off the skis because of a neck injury so I was skiing alone. It was an off night with hardly anyone at the resort. There were no schools or classes scheduled for that night. It was about 10 degrees with light snow and a slight wind. I thought I would get bored with the skiing but it was fun and time passed quickly. It was the last trip down before I knew it and what I thought was the end of a good day. I returned to the chalet and searched for everyone who needed a ride home with me but they were all missing. I eventually found my sister in the chalet bar and asked her if she had seen our niece and her friend. She said she saw them once standing next to a cross-country trail entrance on a run called Moonshine. This was bad. If they had gone down the run, the girls would be somewhere in the dark woods surrounding the mountain.I hurried to the front desk, my sister in tow, and told the owner I had to go back up the mountain. My sister asked me to wait for her but I was impatient and skied to the chairlift before she ever got out of the chalet. Now the mountain didn't seem so fun. It was a cold, barren place with a touch of danger. The resort that seemed so familiar to me was changing unpleasantly. The lift operators had been warned of my coming and were ready to let me on. They may not have known my name but we had talked casually through the night each time I used the lift. They too seemed worried. They let me know the ski patrol would be beginning their last check of the runs in a few minutes. As I let the chair catch me behind the legs and lift me into the air, I waved to them and held on to the chair support. There were no people ahead of me in the chairs and I never saw my sister reach the lift before I got too far away to see the base of the hill in the falling snow. A movie about a Bigfoot attacking a ski resort (1977 TV Movie “Snow Beast”) played in my mind when I rode up the trails, a stupid movie so fake it should not have bothered me but I rose up the mountain and I grew frightened, half expecting a Bigfoot to reach up out of the woods and snatch me off the lift.The bald top of the mountain came into view and by the time I skied off the lift at the top, I was both worried and paranoid. I felt like I was being watched and that to fall or make noise would be a fatal mistake. I poled across the top of the mountain to the entrance of the trail Moonshine. I was completely alone. I looked into the dark entrance of the trail and saw a reflection, a light from further down past a corner. Making as little noise as possible, I skied to the first corner and followed the turn, taking care not to fall. The next corner had a single light on a pole, casting dark shadows at the entrance to the two trails I had come to check. One of the trails was three miles long. The other was 5 miles long. With the fresh snow, I thought if anyone had taken the trails, I could see their tracks and alert the ski patrol to where they were possibly lost in the woods. To say I was frightened was an understatement. I was terrified yet I had no reason to feel like I was being watched or threatened. I had experienced danger in the service but this was nothing like that, it was visceral.I came to a stop at the lone light and looked at the dark trail entrance. The one to the west had no tracks leading to it. I poled to the next entrance and looked down at the snow. Two sets of tracks crossed the manila rope used to block the entrance of the 5-mile-long trail. The tracks were covered with about a quarter inch of fresh snow. Whoever had made these had crossed the rope within the last hour or two. I stared into the darkness and tried to decide what I had to do but I already knew the answer – I had to go after them. Even if they chose not to go down the cross-country trail, the only way off that trail once you pass the ropes was an expert run that was a chute dropping rapidly to rejoin Moonshine about 200 yards from where I stood. The name of that short trail – The Devil's Run.I looked back at the trail hoping for a ski patrol person to wave down but I was alone. I started to enter the run but just couldn't seem to cross the rope. I know it was fear that stopped me but I had no obvious reason to fear. I was an expert skier. I knew the trails. So gritting my teeth, I worked my way onto the trail but could not get myself to go into the dark. I turned away and felt shame as the fear grew more intense and made me stop in my tracks. Looking around once more, I confirmed I was still alone. Then almost as if a casual act, I twisted and then shouted my niece's name into the darkness. Immediately two children's voices came from the woods. They screamed in terror, one of them shouting that it was killing them. As the screaming continued I stood there in shock, unable to breathe or move. As quickly as they had come, the screams stopped but I thought I could hear whimpering just over the sound of the trees rustling in the wind. I must have shouted incoherently and moved before my mind began to fully function. I realized I was turning and facing the woods, pointing forward before my mind once again screamed for me to stop. There was something wrong with this situation but I was at a loss for understanding any of it. I just knew I was going into the dark and I would be alone to face whatever was happening to those children. Regretfully, forlornly, I looked back up the trail and with relief, saw a ski patrol coming my way. The whimpering stopped.When he came to a stop next to me, I rapidly told him what was happening but he had an odd look on his face. It seemed like he thought I was lying to him so I told him I was going down the trail. Anger had defeated the fear that held me before I could go. He stopped me and entered the trail, telling me we would meet at the exit a few hundred yards away. I turned and started to ski but within seconds the man went out of the trail exit without stopping. I worked hard to catch up to him and finally caught him at the base of the mountain near the chair lift. I grabbed his arm and stopped the ski patrol, demanding to know what had happened. He said, 'Nothing was in the woods, just go home!' We argued for a few minutes, me saying there were children up there. He told me to just go home. Finally, I pulled up the chairlift to get on for a ride back up the mountain. The ski patrol yelled at the lift operator to shut it down. The argument got worse and there was almost a fight when I saw my sister coming down the Moonshine with another member of the patrol. I spoke to her but before I could say anything she said they had heard children crying. The ski patrol with her had made my sister come down the mountain without entering the woods. The argument continued at the chairlift for a few more minutes before I realized I could get my friend to let me back up the mountain.I hurried to the chalet where my niece and her friend were waiting. I charged in to find the owner. He was at the front desk and I quickly told him what happened. My sister joined me as I spoke, confirming the screams of the children. His reaction as I talked was odd as if he'd heard this before. When I asked to be let back up the hill, he told me, no, that it was not something to concern myself over and to think of it as just 'ghosts'. By now, most of the members of the ski patrol were standing behind us. I suspected they were there to keep me from going back up that hill when they moved in front of the door. We all took our ski boots off and I took our sister, niece, and her friend to the car. I did not look back to see if anyone was watching us depart. I was quiet. None of this made sense. My favorite place to ski was tainted and I was determined to come back and look down that trail.The drive to Stacy (Minnesota) where I dropped off my niece was silent. My sister and I had nothing to say and my niece thought we were mad at her. I did have enough voice to tell her something had happened and I did not want to talk about it. Once they were out of the car, I took the back road to Wyoming. I headed home down a road with few houses. A mile out of Wyoming, I began to feel the fear again only this time it was worse. I looked in the rearview mirror and I saw nothing, no lights of the farm we passed, just an impenetrable darkness. The side view mirrors were the same. As the fear grew, my foot lightened on the accelerator and the car slowed. I could feel the hair on my head pushing against my hat and with amazement, I realized that tears were flowing down my cheeks. I looked at my sister and I realized she was crying too. When I looked to the rearview mirror again, without knowing why I did it I knocked the mirror askew with my right hand. I asked her to look behind the car and tell me what she saw. Slowly she turned and gasped then spun forward and sunk in the seat. She managed to tell me to keep driving. The car had slowed to ten miles an hour. I sped up and tried my best to drive under these circumstances.After about a half mile, as we passed a farmhouse, the feeling went away as if a person had just switched off a light. We drove the rest of the way home without incident. I asked what she saw and my sister said she saw death was behind us and refused to ever talk about it again. A few days later I returned to the ship. A few years later I was involved in an explosion that took away any skiing for the rest of my life. I never went back to that resort. I never saw the owner again. A few years ago someone finally persuaded me to tell my story and when it was done, he said he was going skiing at that resort in a few days and would ask about ghosts. When he returned he said that more people experienced the same thing we faced that night.Occasionally I go ghost hunting but I will never go to the resort for personal reasons. I finally asked my sister a year ago what she saw that night. I thought the distance of time would lessen the impact of the event but she is still haunted by it. She told me something huge was sitting in the rear seat. She said it was a huge black shadow with red eyes. I'm left with the same question each time I think about that trip. Who were the children in the woods? (I looked for old murder reports but never found any.) What was killing them? What was in the car that night? My sister felt we would have just disappeared if that thing had wanted us to. I received a telephone call from 'JD' who lives in Macomb County, Michigan. He notices a massive dark figure roaming around the edge of his property.JD and his wife were returning dishes and other items that were used for a wedding reception in Detroit, Michigan on October 27, 2018. The wedding coordinator was located in Washington Township, MI in Macomb County, north of Detroit. The time was around 1AM on Sunday, October 28th when they arrived at the location.JD was in the house, getting ready to head home when the coordinator's Schnauzer dog began to bark and scratch at the back door. The coordinator's husband left the dog out and followed it into the backyard. At about the same time, the neighbor called to ask if they could quiet their dog down.The coordinator's husband (John) was watching the dog, as it continued to bark wildly, as it cowered behind him. John looked in the direction of the dog's attention and noticed a huge dark figure standing at the edge of the property. John stated to JD that the figure was 9 feet tall and bulky. He also noticed that the top of the head was conical, though it was difficult to see much detail.John slowly moved to his right, and then the figure moved in the same direction. John then moved to his left, and the figure followed. John picked up the dog and began to back up towards the house, continuing to watch the figure. It then crouched down on all fours, taking a threatening stature. John quickly turned and ran into the house.The next morning, John checked the location where the figure had been standing. He noticed faint footprints that were twice as large as an adult man. JD asked John if he had taken photographs, but he had not.NOTE: The BFRO has no reports of Bigfoot in Macomb County, MI.
