Miami-Dade Police released the body cam footage of Sunday’s incident that led to the detainment of Dolphins’ star Tyreek Hill. The eight-time Pro Bowler was reportedly detained for a driving violation. “I’m told by sources Tyreek Hill was cited for reckless driving as a result of his incident outside the stadium with police. After he was pulled over, he got into a verbal altercation with police. The officer chose to place Hill in handcuffs. Per USA TODAY: The encounter between Hill and the primary responding officer started as a routine traffic stop, according to the body-camera footage. The officer, who was on a motorcycle, pulled Hill over, knocked on the window of his McLaren 720S coupe and informed him that he was speeding. “Don’t knock on my window like that,” Hill told the officer, repeating it at least seven times. “Give me my ticket, bro, so I can go. Do what you have to do.” After Hill turned over his license, he rolled his window up again. The officer knocked on the window twice more. “Keep your window down or I’m going to get you out of the car,” the officer said. “As a matter of fact, get out of the car. … Get out of the car right now. We’re not playing this game. Get out. Get out!” At least three officers are seen pulling Hill, who was on the phone, out of the car and onto the ground. “Hey Drew, hey Drew, I’m getting arrested dude. I’m getting arrested,” Hill said as he’s brought to the ground. Hill was speaking to Dolphins head of team security Drew Brooks, who later arrived at the scene. Hill was placed in handcuffs, standing on the curb while another officer attempted to bring him down to the ground in a seated position. “I just had surgery on my knee! I just had surgery on my knee!” Hill said. “Chill bro, chill bro.” After forcing him to the ground, an officer said to Hill: “Did you just have surgery on your ears when we told you to put your window down?” “In our commitment to transparency and maintaining public trust, we are releasing the body-worn camera (BWC) footage related to the recent incident involving Tyreek Hill. Collins, Hill’s lawyer, said they believe the officers’ actions were “excessive” and their team is “exploring all legal remedies.” “Mr. Hill understands the inherently dangerous job that law enforcement is tasked with and understands that officer safety is important. However, at no point in time did Mr. Hill pose a threat to these officers,” Collins said, according to USA TODAY. “We believe that this matter was escalated due to overzealous officers attempting to impose their authority on Mr. Hill because they were not pleased with how fast he complied with their request and that Mr. Hill did not roll down his window far enough to their liking,” Collins added. NBC News interviewed Hill about the detainment: Tyreek Hill believes that if he weren’t a famous football player, officers may have shot or arrested him during a police confrontation that “went from 0 to 60,” the Dolphins star said Monday. The wide receiver was driving to the Dolphins-Jacksonville Jaguars game on Sunday when Miami-Dade police stopped him just outside Hard Rock Stadium, handcuffed him and put him face down on the pavement. “If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, Lord knows, I probably would have been, like, worst-case scenario, I would have been shot or would have been locked up” and “put behind bars, you know, for a simple speeding ticket,” Hill told NBC News. “And that’s crazy that officers would take it, you know, to that level.” The Miami-Dade Police Department has launched an internal affairs investigation, and at least one officer has been taken off the streets in the wake of the confrontation, which was captured on video that has been widely shared on social media. Hill insists he was cooperative with police, rolling down his window and giving his identification. A meteorologist with WFTS, an ABC affiliate in Tampa Bay, Florida, says he was a passenger with a crew from the TV station on one of the planes headed from Atlanta to Louisiana. According to the meteorologist, the back of his plane was clipped by another plane as they were taxiing out to the runway. According to Delta Air Lines, the wing of an Airbus A350 taxiing out as DL295 from Atlanta to Tokyo-Haneda made contact with the tail of an Endeavor Air CRJ-900, DL5526 to Lafayette, Louisiana, on an adjacent taxiway, resulting in damage to the tail of the regional jet and the wing of the A350. There have been no reported injuries at this time and customers are being transported back to the terminal where they will be reaccommodated on alternate flights. Well that was terrifying.
