SwitchBot made an air purifier that’s also a table and charging station

Image: SwitchBot Air purifiers are great and all, but they only really do one thing, and they usually don’t look elegant doing it. SwitchBot is trying to change this by making an air purifier that also serves as a table, a wireless charger, and a light source. The device, aptly named the SwitchBot Air Purifier Table, costs $269.99 and puts a small platform atop the air purifier. You can place a Qi-compatible phone on the platform to charge it wirelessly or simply use it to set down your cup of coffee. Beneath the platform is a light that looks like it could come in handy for subtle nighttime illumination. You can choose from 10 different colors, with options for soft, moderate, and bright lighting; the light will also change color by itself — from green... Continue reading…

Waymo thinks it can overcome robotaxi skepticism with lots of safety data

Image: Waymo How do you convince a skeptical public that your autonomous vehicles are not only safer than human drivers but also a better way to get around? If you’re Waymo, the answer is data — and lots of it. The Alphabet-owned company revealed a new safety hub today, complete with glossy graphics and a multitude of charts that will be periodically updated, with the overarching message that its autonomous vehicles are not to be feared. The move comes as Waymo seeks to expand its footprint, win over new customers, and cement its lead in the race to deploy more driverless cars. It also comes as safety regulators have begun to take a harder look at the whole autonomous vehicle industry — including Waymo. “This matters a lot to us” “This matters a lot... Continue reading…

Nanoleaf’s new wall panels can show off your plants and Funko Pops

Nanoleaf’s Blocks come in two sizes and can integrate with fabric panel covers, pegboards, and shelves. | Image: Nanoleaf Nanoleaf is giving its popular smart lighting panels a major refresh. The Nanoleaf Blocks (starting at $199.99) feature edge-to-edge lighting that the company says eliminates hot spots and dark corners, bringing a smoother, more even look. The company announced the new panels during its Nanoleaf Live event on YouTube and will show them off at the IFA tech show in Berlin this week. Flic is ready to control all your Matter devices

Image: Flic Shortcut Labs has been openly working toward the goal of turning its smart home hubs — the Flic Hub LR and the Flic Hub Mini — into Matter controllers for quite a while, and now the company tells The Verge it has done it. On Friday, Shortcut will release an update that, according to the company, lets its devices easily act as independent hubs for Matter devices without being part of the ecosystems from companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, or Samsung. It’s a compelling idea: a way to build out a smart home without turning to one of the big tech companies and the privacy concerns and attempts at lock-in that come with that. Part of the promise of the Matter standard is that it gives users freedom of choice, but we’ve still mostly had to... Continue reading…

Blogger claims changing one hidden iPhone setting ‘almost doubled’ his battery life

My two-year-old iPhone 14 Pro could easily make it another year if I wanted it to. I say that as I'm about to upgrade to one of the four iPhone 16 models next week. I want the new features, especially the Capture button and Apple Intelligence. The new button is first in the short list above only because Apple will need more time to roll out its AI features, especially where I live in Europe. Battery life is one reason why I want a new iPhone. The iPhone 14 Pro used to last more than a day with ease. I wasn't one of those disgruntled iPhone 14 Pro buyers who discovered that battery health plummeted after just one year. After two years, my iPhone 14 Pro's battery health is at 88%. It can last another year before needing a replacement, even if that means charging it more frequently. The iPhone 16 might feature new battery tech, especially the Pro models, which could improve battery health. Before we get there, I'll show you a hidden iPhone setting that might help with the battery life of any model. I say that as a longtime iPhone user who hasn't considered using this setting to squeeze more battery life out of my handset. Continue reading... Back at I/O 2024, Google announced a new Ask Photos feature for Google Photos. With Ask Photos, you can employ Google's Gemini AI to search your Google Photos library using text prompts in a conversational manner. You won't have to think of the right keywords, making Google Photos easier and better than before. Nearly four months later, Google is ready to deliver its new AI-powered Ask Photos feature. The company announced on Thursday that Ask Photos is rolling out to US users, who will be able to ask Gemini when looking for images and videos. Google is also improving traditional searches in Google Search that do not involve Gemini. Continue reading... BREAKING: DOJ’s Merrick Garland warns Russia not to interfere in US elections: ‘That’s our job!’

BREAKING: DOJ’s Merrick Garland warns Russia not to interfere in US elections: ‘That’s our job!’

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a rare moment of transparency, Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a stern warning to Russia: Stay out of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. And not because the U.S. wants a fair election, but because, as Garland put it, “That’s the CIA and FBI’s job.” Standing at the Justice Department podium, Garland spoke passionately about the sanctity of U.S. election interference. “Our intelligence agencies have worked tirelessly for decades to fine-tune the art of influence. We simply cannot allow foreign entities to waltz in and undermine our carefully orchestrated chaos.” Garland pointed out that interference in American elections is a delicate process that requires deep institutional knowledge. “It takes years of shadowy backdoor deals, disinformation campaigns, and quiet surveillance to get this right. Russia, you’re not needed here.” The CIA and FBI issued a joint statement shortly after Garland’s speech, saying, “We appreciate the Attorney General’s defense of our electoral meddling prowess. We’ve been training for this for years. Whether it’s nudging voter opinions or quietly influencing key swing states, we’ve got it under control.” CIA Director William Burns added, “We know every trick in the book—after all, we wrote it. Foreign interference is an insult to our domestic expertise.” FBI Director Christopher Wray was also quick to assure the public that American agencies are on top of the situation. “We’ve got a new strategy this time around: instead of debunking conspiracy theories, we’re planting our own. This way, when voters hear the truth, they won’t believe a word of it,” Wray explained while casually shredding documents in the background. In an unexpected twist, the Department of Homeland Security offered to step in with their own brand of interference insurance. “We’ll be rolling out fact-checking drones,” announced Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. “These will fly over polling stations, scanning for any signs of unauthorized meddling—unless it’s our own. That’s just good, clean democracy.” Vladimir Putin, upon hearing Garland’s warning, reportedly smirked and said, “Good luck, America. We’ll leave the disinformation to the professionals.” The post BREAKING: DOJ’s Merrick Garland warns Russia not to interfere in US elections: ‘That’s our job!’ appeared first on Genesius Times.

The 77-year-old assured his Instagram followers that he is recovering slowly from a severe eye infection, which he began dealing with this summer. Although his statement had a hopeful tone to it, people are worried about the star’s now limited vision in one eye, which he admits will take a long time to reverse. “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far,” he added. Fans react to the news of Elton John’s impacted vision ImageCollect Fans showed their support for John in the comments with echoes of “We love you, John,” and encouraging words. “Get well soon Sir Elton.
