A Dark Day in South Korea’s History

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol abruptly declared martial law on Tuesday, blaming “anti-state forces” planning to overthrow the government. Yoon had previously complained of media and opposition groups pushing false information to subvert society, but gave no indication he would take such drastic measures. Yoon’s action reversed decades of South Korean democratization from its authoritarian past and undermined his legitimacy. North Korea was unlikely to take military advantage of the turmoil in South Korea, but will glean propaganda victories.  Though Yoon quickly rescinded his declaration, his action could lead to his impeachment. At a time when the United States is calling on regional partners to push back harder against the China threat, South Korea will be now be a less reliable partner. Yoon claimed he imposed martial law to “protect liberal democracy and ensure the safety of the people” against unidentified forces operating covertly within South Korea to overthrow the government. He provided no evidence or indications of any groups plotting a coup. In a televised speech, Yoon accused the opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) of “attempting to overthrow the free democratic system through legislative dictatorship.” He cited the DPK’s repeated impeachment motions, railroading a recent budget bill, and engaging in “anti-state activities plotting rebellion.” He also vowed to eradicate pro-North Korea forces in South Korea. Yoon declared that all political activities, dissemination of false news, and gatherings such as strikes and demonstrations were prohibited. He directed that all media and publications would be under government control and armored vehicles were deployed on the streets of Seoul. Yoon invoked Article 77 of the South Korean Constitution, which allows for proclaiming martial law, but martial law is reserved for “time of war, armed conflict or similar national emergency.” None of that appeared evident. The provision specifies that the president shall comply when a majority of the members of the National Assembly requests the lifting of martial law. People gather in front of the South Korean National Assembly on Wednesday in Seoul. South Korean lawmakers voted to lift the declaration of emergency martial law announced earlier by President Yoon Suk Yeol in a televised speech. (Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images) During the short six-hour time frame of martial law, military troops initially occupied the National Assembly, since activities of the legislature had been prohibited. However, the National Assembly subsequently met and voted to overrule Yoon’s martial law declaration, leading him to rescind it. Yoon’s action was harshly criticized by leaders of both the opposition and ruling parties. Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung declared Yoon’s proclamation was “illegal and unconstitutional,” while Han Dong-hoon, the leader of Yoon’s Ruling People Power Party, called the decision “wrong” and vowed to “stop it with the people.” While tensions with North Korea have been high this year, there was no indication that Yoon’s action was in response to any imminent military action by Pyongyang. The regime is unlikely to conduct tactical or strategic military action as a result of the crisis, but there is always the danger of inadvertent escalation if either or both Koreas misinterpret military posturing of the other. Yoon’s popularity has plummeted in recent months, and the opposition party scored a decisive victory in April’s National Assembly elections, routing Yoon’s ruling conservative party. Some legislators have advocated legal action against the first lady for alleged corruption and the impeachment of Yoon. During his Aug. 15 Independence Day speech, which often is used by South Korean presidents to extol anti-Japanese nationalist themes, Yoon instead pushed for unification with North Korea while criticizing domestic “anti-freedom forces.” Yoon decried that unidentified groups were using false propaganda to undermine the nation by destroying the values and order of a free society. But Yoon indicated that he would counter the propaganda by providing true information to the populace, rather than suggesting dire actions such as suspending constitutional rights. The president also vowed to uphold the principles of freedom and democracy in South Korea. Yoon’s action was a damning reversal to decades of South Korean efforts to put its authoritarian past behind it. After gaining liberation from Japanese rule in 1945, the country endured military coups and repressive presidents who undermined the rule of law and human rights in South Korea. After the achievement of democratization in the 1980s, South Korea became a beacon of freedom. The last time martial law was declared in South Korea was 1980. The United States, which has 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea, could not be seen as condoning Yoon’s extraconstitutional actions since Washington has been falsely blamed in the past for approving South Korean authoritarian actions against its citizens. However, the U.S. couldn’t criticize Yoon’s actions too strongly, since South Korea remains a critical ally in addressing regional security challenges, including the growing North Korean and Chinese military threats. Though Yoon’s martial law was short-lived, the ramifications will be significant and long-lasting. His political days are likely numbered, since the populace will be united in its criticism and the majority opposition party will seek his impeachment. If Yoon is removed from office, the opposition party would likely win the special election. Its policies are not in alignment with U.S. strategic objectives. The DPK favors conciliatory policies toward North Korea and China, while distancing South Korea from its alliance with the United States. 'Catholic' Cosplayers Attempt To Hijack Christmas To Celebrate Murder

“Catholics for Choice,” a death cult that hides behind the oxymoron of their name, exists to rewrite the pro-life religion to mean its opposite. Now they’re hijacking the celebration of Jesus’s birth into a celebration of murder. “This holiday season, remember that Mary had a choice, and you should, too,” wrote the group in a post on X. This holiday season, remember that Mary had a choice, and you should, too. — Catholics for Choice (@Catholic4Choice) December 1, 2024 But in a “Community Note,” the religious impersonators were brutally corrected by the very Gospel they pretend to preach.  “The Catholic Church teaches that Mary gave her free and informed 'yes' to God’s plan to bear Jesus, a decision made »before« His conception,” clarifies the note, citing the Gospel of Luke. But it didn’t take only the Christian Bible to publicly shame them. “I’m not Catholic, but I know this. Mary is going to slap you before you kneel for judgment before God,” one user wrote. I’m not Catholic, but I know this. Mary is going to slap you before you kneel for judgment before God. — Dave Bigbooté ?????? (@DaveNewellPhoto) December 2, 2024 “You vile pieces of sh*t are about as Catholic as Muhammad was,” another user added. You vile pieces of shit are about as Catholic as Muhammad was. — Dix Handley (@dix_di79430) December 2, 2024  “Do the transwomen, men in wigs, have the same choices as Mary, too?” a third page asked.  “Pretending to be Catholic, does not make one a Catholic,” he noted. Pretending to be Catholic, does not make one a Catholic. Do the transwomen, men in wigs, have the same choices as Mary, too? — Fluffy iPhone Dad (@MackDaddy1002) December 2, 2024 To the Left, that reality is as difficult to grasp as the fact that pretending to be a woman does not make you a woman.

Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis ordered to turn over communications with Jan. 6 committee and special counsel Jack Smith

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was found by a court to have violated an open records request and ordered to turn over communications with the congressional committee investigating Jan. 6 as well as those with special counsel Jack Smith. The lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch in March sought the records from Willis' office in accordance with the Georgia Open Records Act, but Willis was unresponsive to the request, leading to a default judgment. 'This is the first time in our experience a government official has been found in default for not showing up in court to answer an open records lawsuit.' The Fulton County Supreme Court judgment found that Willis “never moved to open default on any basis (not even during the period when she could have opened default as a matter of right), she never paid costs, and she never offered up a meritorious defense.” Willis is ordered to produce the communications records within five days to Judicial Watch. The district attorney has been actively seeking the prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump over allegations that he illegally sought to overturn the official election results of the 2020 presidential campaign. A hearing has also been scheduled to determine whether Willis should pay court fees for Judicial Watch. “Fani Willis is something else. We’ve been doing this work for 30 years, and this is the first time in our experience a government official has been found in default for not showing up in court to answer an open records lawsuit," read a statement from Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Judicial Watch looks forward to getting any documents from the Fani Willis operation about collusion with the Biden administration and Nancy Pelosi’s Congress on her unprecedented and compromised ‘get-Trump’ prosecution,” he added. Also on Tuesday, Willis faced a tremendous blow to her career when the last two defendants in the longest-running trial in Georgia were acquitted. Deamonte Kendrick was found not guilty of all charges filed by Willis, and Shannon Stillwell was also acquitted of all charges except one by a Fulton County jury. Willis has been excoriated for having a romantic relationship with a deputy attorney general as their office fought to prosecute Trump. That case is the last surviving of Trump's four cases, three of which were dropped or postponed after Trump's election victory. Like Blaze News? Hunter Biden pardoned: Shop owner REVEALS what he discovered on his laptop

On April 12, 2019, John Paul Mac Isaac was running his laptop repair shop in Delaware when Hunter Biden — who was just pardoned by his father, Joe Biden — changed the course of his life. “It was about two weeks before his father announced his candidacy, so to me, he was just an intoxicated guy, and at first, because I saw the Beau Biden Foundation sticker, I thought he was just trying to get memories off of his deceased brother’s laptop, because that’s often the case,” Isaac told Alex Stein of “Prime Time with Alex Stein” in an interview. “That’s often the case. Customers will come in with these devices, and they’ll just want to get the memories off. Unfortunately, during the data recovery the next day, I had to verify the data, and during that verification process I realized that this was not Beau Biden’s laptop. This was Hunter’s, and it was gross,” he explained. Hunter told Isaac to bill him electronically, when Isaac explained that if he didn’t pick it up after 90 days, it’s “forfeit.” “At that point I just wanted him to pick it up, because I saw a lot of embarrassing material. But, again, his dad hadn’t announced his candidacy yet, so I figured just get this disgraced son of a politician out of my shop,” he said. “It was about three months later when it became my property and Burisma and Hunter Biden and corruption was in the news cycle. I took a deep dive in the laptop, and it took me probably a couple weeks before I figured out that there was major threats to our national security on that laptop and it needed to get to the FBI,” he continued. Isaac was concerned not only about the contents on the laptop but also the “collusion between our Big Tech or mainstream and social media to block the story.” “The fact that they went to extreme lengths to repress the story from the time the FBI took possession of that laptop on December 9 of 2019. They had 10 months before the New York Post broke that story,” he said. “That’s a lot of effort to put into hiding something.” Want more from Alex Stein? To enjoy more of Alex's culture jamming, comedic monologues, skits, and street segments, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
