Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said this week that President Joe Biden was “the real crook” after he announced on Sunday evening that he was pardoning his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden. Cruz, who predicted nearly a year ago that Biden would pardon his son, made the remarks during the most recent episode of his “Verdict” podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson while talking about the news shortly after it broke. “Never mind about the corruption, never mind about the gun offenses, never mind about the drug offenses, never mind about the tax offenses,” Cruz said. “No man is above the law unless your name is Joe Biden and the entire Biden family.” Cruz mocked the idea that Hunter Biden was “some lonely crackhead who just sort of went astray.” “That’s what Joe Biden and the entire White House has tried to paint him as,” he said. “Hunter Biden’s business was selling access to daddy. The real crook here is Joe Biden.” “The Biden family, they made tens of millions of dollars selling favors from Joe Biden,” Cruz noted. “Listen, nobody pays Hunter Biden. Nobody pays a crack head money when he has no marketable services. He was not selling anything other than daddy.” “When Joe Biden entered this pardon, it is about protecting his own rear end,” Cruz continued. On Sunday night, Joe Biden decided that now was the moment. Yes, he had promised he was not going to pardon his son, Hunter, on gun and tax charges, but hell, he’s leaving office. There is no reason for him to lie anymore. So, he released a statement announcing he is pardoning his son on all charges, not just granting commutation of the sentence. He could have granted commutation, meaning he could have left all of the guilty pleas and convictions on the books without his son having to go to jail. Instead, he decided to issue a full pardon, meaning that his son’s record was wiped clean. Biden didn’t just issue a full pardon for the things Hunter was convicted of or to which he pled guilty; he issued a full pardon dating all the way back to January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024, nearly an 11-year period. A blanket pardon for everything Hunter had done. Obvious was the hilarious spectacle of Biden issuing the pardon with roughly four hours remaining until December 1 was over. Theoretically, Hunter Biden could have done anything, even gone on a murder spree, and he would have gotten off scot-free. The obvious question is: Why would he make the pardon applicable to the last 11 years? The answer, of course, is because Hunter Biden was the bagman, as we all know. WATCH: The Ben Shapiro Show As I’ve discussed repeatedly, Joe Biden has spent his entire political career enriching his family since the time he was in the Senate from Delaware. He used his position to enrich his brothers, Frank and James. He used his position to enrich his sister, Valerie. He used his position in order to deploy Hunter Biden — his derelict, drug-addled son — all over the world and pick up stacks of cash on behalf of the family from China to Ukraine. Much of that cash was apparently being held in trust for “the big guy,” according to contemporaneous email messages and texts that were sent by Hunter on that famous Hunter Biden laptop. So why did Biden issue a pardon on everything? Because he is afraid of, not just the charges that Hunter Biden was caught up in, but also of his connection to Joe that will be the subject of further investigation. He’s trying to clear the decks so that Hunter Biden is now off the hook for absolutely everything, including his time at Burisma. It is not a coincidence this pardon begins January 1, 2014. When exactly did Hunter Biden join Burisma? Answer: April 2014. Joe Biden is clearly attempting to wipe the books of his corruption or any possible investigation into the money that passed hands between foreign countries and Hunter Biden and then held by Hunter Biden for “the big guy.” That is the goal here. This is full-scale, obvious political corruption of the most unseemly sort. Joe Biden put out a statement, saying: Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted. If you say that you’re not going to interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making and then you full-on pardon your son, after claiming that the Justice Department selectively prosecuted your son, that would be, technically, the largest scale of interference with the Department of Justice. Sure, you let them waste millions of dollars prosecuting your son, only to pardon him later. But you are openly suggesting that they were corrupt, that they did something wrong, which they didn’t.  Biden continued, “Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form.” The reality, of course, is that Joe Biden’s son filled out a gun form claiming he was not a drug addict while he was, in fact, in full-scale drug addiction mode, snorting parmesan cheese off carpet, thinking that perhaps it was meth or cocaine. And that’s according to his own memoir. If you lie on a gun registration form about not being a drug addict, the punishment is up to 10 years in jail or $250,000 in fines. Very often, those sorts of charges are brought. With regard to Hunter Biden, if he were some poor kid from Appalachia, the chances that this kid would not have been prosecuted under the statute are very, very low. But according to Joe Biden, it was all corrupt. That’s the real reason. It’s not because he’s trying to cover up what he did with his son. Hunter was the bag man. The real issue here is that the Justice Department was going after his poor, innocent 51-year-old, totally derelict son, who happened to be picking up stacks of cash for him. Biden stated: Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently. The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election. Then, a carefully negotiated plea deal, agreed to by the Department of Justice, unraveled in the court room – with a number of my political opponents in Congress taking credit for bringing political pressure on the process. Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter’s cases. To recall what happened in this case, the Justice Department tried to cut an unprecedented sweetheart deal with Hunter Biden. The nature of that deal is that there were essentially two sets of plea agreements. One was a plea agreement with regard to the gun charge, and the other added onto the tax charges along with anything else Hunter might have done. The plea deal on the gun charge was out in the open. But then there was a secret agreement on the tax charges that included an addendum that covered any other crimes Hunter may have committed during this period. The judge in that case looked at the plea agreement and basically said, “What the hell is this? I can’t greenlight this deal.” CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE The DOJ was never really going after the Bidens. That was the entire point. They were only forced to prosecute Hunter Biden after the judge stepped in and said no. Biden stated, “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong. There has been an effort to break Hunter – who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.” He’s suggesting that if he doesn’t pardon Hunter, there will be further charges brought against Hunter Biden. There’s one problem: Since Joe Biden has pardoned Hunter, Hunter can no longer plead the Fifth Amendment. If, for example, the DOJ of the Trump administration investigates and finds that Hunter Biden was likely picking up stacks of cash on behalf of his dad in foreign countries while his dad was vice president of the United States, Hunter can no longer plead the Fifth, because to plead the Fifth Amendment, he would have to say he would be incriminating himself. But if you’ve been pardoned for the possible crimes, then you have no grounds for citing the Fifth Amendment. Biden continued: For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: just tell the American people the truth. They’ll be fair-minded. Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision. One of the great liars in American history, Joe Biden. Just tell the American people the truth, says the man who ran on the presumption that he was not senile while everyone knew it was untrue. He is wildly dishonest. He openly said in July 2024 he would not pardon Hunter under any circumstances. He lied. And we should not be surprised.

Jay Leno recently recalled a road rage story with a surprisingly wholesome ending. TMZ released a sneak peek of its Merry Elfin’ Christmas special that highlights Jay’s story, which took place while the comedian was the host of The Tonight Show. As Jay shared, he was driving one of his classic cars one day. While he was in traffic, a man behind him was growing impatient and honking his horn because Jay was going too slow. So Jay signaled for the man to go around him. As the driver passed Jay Leno, he flipped him the bird, and Jay lost his cool. “I pulled to the light, and I looked at the guy, and I go, ‘What was that all about?’” he said. “He starts swearing, and that’s what I laid into him. I said, ‘Let me guess. What are you 52, divorce[d], your kids hate you, you’re bald? What was your greatest day? In high school?’” Taylor Swift And Jay Leno Helped Make Things Right With The Driver’s Kids Jay Leno expected more road rage. Instead, the guy broke down in tears. “The guy starts crying [and says] ‘You’re right, man.’ I go ‘Wait, wait, wait’ so I get out of my car [and] I get into his car. The man gladly accepted the offer, and Taylor showed them nothing but kindness. “I told Taylor the situation,” he continued. “She gave him swag [and] talked to the girls. THE CENTER SQUARE—Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., reiterated the state’s commitment to continued funding for the deportation defense of migrants and undocumented immigrants. President-elect Donald Trump’s promised mass deportations could have a major impact on California, which hosts approximately 2.7 million undocumented immigrants. “If it’s legal assistance, legal advice, legal support, that’s just the California way,” Padilla said when asked if the state would fund legal defenses of undocumented immigrants facing deportation. “We embrace our diversity. Our diversity has made our communities thrive and our economy thrive.”  Given the state’s looming deficits, Republicans wondered whether such funds would be better spent elsewhere. “The idea that we would use our tax dollars to defend criminal illegal immigrants is outrageous,” wrote state Assemblyman Bill Essayli, R-Corona, on X (formerly Twitter). “How about we use that money to support the victims of the crimes committed by illegal immigrants?” The idea that we would use our tax dollars to defend criminal illegal immigrants is outrageous. How about we use that money to support the victims of the crimes committed by illegal immigrants?! https://t.co/KXZ8Xq6r4b— Bill Essayli (@billessayli) December 2, 2024 California already funds legal services for undocumented immigrants, including a separate fund solely for deportation defense, including $24 million in grants last year solely for deportation defense, and $37 million in grants this year for a wide range of other immigration-related legal services for legal and undocumented immigrants.  Under current guidelines, individuals who have been convicted of, or are currently appealing conviction of, a violent or serious felony are ineligible for state-funded deportation defense.  Last year, former Assemblyman Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer Sr. proposed ending the ban on deportation defense for high-level felons. He also proposed allowing those funds to be used for providing “relief that vacates, eliminates, or reduces a criminal record, conviction, or sentence that may have adverse immigration consequences.”  The failed bill would have tied in with the 2022 Racial Justice Act, which allows undocumented immigrants to petition to overturn convictions if said convictions will result in “adverse immigration consequences,” as many higher-level felonies result in deportation orders. California Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s special legislative session to fund lawsuits challenging the coming Trump administration convened Monday. California’s state-funded legislative review agency found the state has no capacity for new spending commitments and faces annual deficits rising to $30 billion. It’s unclear whether the state plans on increasing deportation defense funding, and how it would fund a program expansion. But how do we prevent voting in a federal election from getting to this point in the future? “What we need is a voter’s election integrity bill of rights, because these crazy laws are really infringing on the voting rights of people who go to the polls, do it right,” Cleta Mitchell, senior legal fellow for the Conservative Partnership Institute, tells Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson of “Blaze News Tonight.” “There are a number of principles that we’re sort of coalescing around that need to be both in federal law and in state law,” she continues. “Only citizens vote, voter ID for every kind of voting, make sure that all ballots are received by the time the polls close on Election Day, make sure that there’s transparency and accountability.” “This situation needs to be corrected. It’s way past time to do that,” she adds. Illinois is one state that has pushed the boundaries regarding election integrity, allowing mail-in ballots to be counted up to fourteen days after the election. “Do you think that this is something where the Supreme Court, or the courts, might not ultimately decide in the right direction? It just seems so egregious, but people now, they’re kind of used to it, in our corrupt system, allowing these mail-ins to come in after the fact,” Peterson comments. “Judicial Watch has filed suit in both Illinois and also Mississippi, and the Fifth Circuit ruled that receiving ballots after the time the polls close on Election Day violates the federal statute,” Mitchell responds. “I think that one of the things that we need to do is say that there’s a beginning and an end when we as a country vote, pretty much at the same time,” she continues. “We might have to make some accommodations for people to vote in person early if they’re going to be out of state.” “I think we need to get rid of this universal vote by mail, this universal sending of ballots to people whether they requested them or not,” she adds.
