The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on Thursday to allow Arizona to require proof of citizenship when people register to vote using the state’s voter registration form.  The ruling came after the Republican Party asked for an emergency stay from the Supreme Court after a federal judge blocked Arizona from implementing a 2022 voter integrity law. The ruling is only a partial win for Republicans in the battleground state as the court did not allow a part of the law requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections or voting by mail to go into effect.  The ruling says that the portion relating to federal elections is on hold pending a review from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.  Justices John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, and Neil Gorsuch voted to allow the proof of citizenship requirements for the state form to take effect. Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch would have allowed the entire law to take effect.  Justice Amy Coney Barrett sided with Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan in voting to block any implementation of the law.  Republican Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma called the decision a “step in the right direction.” “I look forward to continuing this litigation in the 9th Circuit to vindicate all of Arizona’s common sense voting laws and eventually bringing this case before the Supreme Court for a full merits review,” he said.  Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley said the ruling was “a major victory for election integrity.” “While Democrats have worked to undermine basic election safeguards and make it easier for non-citizens to vote, we have fought tooth and nail to preserve citizenship requirements, see the law enforced, and secure our elections,” he said. “The Supreme Court has sided with the RNC, and the American people, to protect the vote in November.” A statement from the RNC added that it was confident that “documentary proof of citizenship requirements in presidential elections and vote by mail will eventually be upheld.” The Biden-Harris administration challenged the federal voting components of the Arizona law, claiming that it violated the National Voter Registration Act, while other liberal groups challenged the state voter form citizenship requirements. Conservative legal scholars have argued that Congress should amend the National Voter Registration Act to make clear that states can mandate proof of citizenship for registering to vote using the federal voter registration form.   “In fact, given concerns around, and documented instances of non-citizens registering and voting, other states should follow Arizona’s lead and take the commonsense step of requiring proof of citizenship when voters register using a state form,” Heritage Foundation legal scholar Zach Smith said in response to the ruling.  Republicans have argued that there is a danger of non-citizens voting in American elections, while Democrats and members of the legacy media have maintained that there is no evidence of non-citizen voting.  Arizona is expected to be one of the key states determining the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. 

CNN political commentator Scott Jennings, who served as former President George W. Bush’s special assistant as well as his deputy director of political affairs, stated that the Biden-Harris administration ran the country “off into a ditch,” adding, “you cannot leave the same people in charge.” Speaking of Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, Jennings stated, “What she did not do is take any amount of responsibility for her current job, which is Vice-President of the United States for the last three and a half years under Joe Biden. There was not an ounce of humility about the inflation gripping the country. She talked about immigration without talking about all the things that happened right up until this border bill that they had hung all their hats on over at the Biden White House.” “So to me, where the Republicans are going to be headed is all the pablum, all the platitudes, all that aside, you cannot leave the same people in charge,” he went on. “If you believe the country is on the wrong track, if you believe they made all the mistakes on the economy and on immigration, you cannot leave the same people in charge that have run the country off into the ditch. She’s embracing that,” Jennings replied, “If the people walk into the voting booth and say, ‘Who gave me better results, Trump or Biden and Harris? Would you take that right now? Alexandria Occasio-Cortez (D-NY) as having “charisma” while calling New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul a “void in the room.”  Besides the tampons and Plan B, Planned Parenthood set up a mobile clinic a few blocks outside the DNC, providing free abortions and vasectomies. 

Multiple Secret Service personnel, including one agent on former President Donald Trump’s detail, were placed on leave six weeks after the assassination attempt on Trump at his Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally, Fox News reported on Friday. Along with the agent on Trump’s detail, four members of the Secret Service’s Pittsburgh field office, including the special agent in charge, were placed on administrative leave. The agency has faced intense criticism after a 20-year-old gunman accessed a rooftop lookout just 130 yards away from the president before firing eight shots, one of which struck Trump’s right ear. “The U.S. Secret Service is committed to investigating the decisions and actions of personnel related to the event in Butler, Pennsylvania and the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The U.S. Secret Service’s mission assurance review is progressing, and we are examining the processes, procedures and factors that led to this operational failure,” Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the U.S. Secret Service, said in a statement, according to CNN. “The U.S. Secret Service holds our personnel to the highest professional standards, and any identified and substantiated violations of policy will be investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility for potential disciplinary action. The Secret Service is under new leadership after Kimberly Cheatle resigned last month following the assassination attempt and criticism of the agency. Cheatle was grilled by Congress and refused to provide specific details on the investigation. After taking over as Acting Director, Ronald Rowe acknowledged earlier this month that the roof the shooter accessed to fire shots at Trump “should have been covered.” “This was a Secret Service failure,” he added. The public still knows few details about how Secret Service and local law enforcement agents missed an armed man setting up in a position so close to the former president, especially since rallygoers said they tried to warn authorities of the suspicious man minutes before shots were fired. Trump supporter Corey Comperatore was killed in the July 13 shooting, and rallygoers James Copenhaver and David Dutch were injured by bullets. Just two weeks after being shot, Trump posted on Truth Social that he “will continue to do outdoor rallies,” adding that he trusts his Secret Service protection. Trump held his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt on Wednesday, where the Secret Service installed bullet-proof glass around Trump on the stage.
