Ritchie Blackmore gives his opinion on Taylor Swift

Ritchie Blackmore is one of the most influential guitarists of all time, who first achieved fame as a member of Deep Purple and then created his own band, Rainbow, which also became one of the most important Hard Rock bands in the history of music. He has been in the music business for more than six decades already and saw the evolution of many music genres and really doesn't like what's playing on the radio these days. In a recent video posted on his Youtube page (Transcribed by Classic Rock), the guitar player gave his opinion on the most successful artist in this world nowadays: Taylor Swift. Ritchie Blackmore gives his opinion on Taylor Swift "When the family all get into the truck and we go on a bit of a holiday – which probably is like 20 miles down the road cuz I don't like to travel – all I hear is Taylor Swift or something. I find it hard to relate to that, but it's not wrong, it's the new generation wanting to hear that. That's probably as great to them as The Beatles and Cream and Jimi Hendrix was to me. So I can't really complain, but I do like to complain, and I will complain, and I think the crap that they're playing on the radio today is bloody awful." "I don't listen to rock'n'roll so much anymore. I listen to the old rock from the 50s when it was fresh. Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore's playing, James Burton with Ricky Nelson, the Everly Brothers, love all that stuff, Buddy Holly being my favourite at the time, of course. I feel like an old Granddad, you know, complaining about the music they're playing on the radio at the moment. I feel that back in the 70s when Eric Clapton was playing Cream and that stuff it was thoughtful music. Eric of course started the whole thing." He continued: "There are so many types of music that I like, but very rarely do I hear it on the radio. I'd rather hear talk radio about who's the latest president and stuff like that kind of bores people to death. I don't hear good music from my point of view. It. might be good music, but it's not something I want to hear." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deZs1dHtQ4s Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Taylor Swift is one of the best-selling artists of all time. She sold an estimated amount of more than 200 million records sold worldwide. Until 2024 she released 11 studio albums, 4 live albums and 4 re-recorded albums. She is currently the solo artist with the most weeks at number one on the United States Billboard 200 chart and also the first billionaire to have music as the main source of income. In 2023 she was the most streamed artist in Spotify, with 26.1 billion streams. Certainly there is no artist like her nowadays, who can generate this amount of ticket and record sales everywhere in the world. The post Ritchie Blackmore gives his opinion on Taylor Swift appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

David Lee Roth releases new video singing “Panama”

If you’ve seen the social media profiles of the Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth, you probably know that he records some unusual videos of himself dancing. Recently, he released a new video of himself singing "Panama," one of Van Halen's biggest classics. However, the audio accompanying his performance is from his solo band's version, not the original. The song was originally released on the band's 1984 (1984) album. David Lee Roth releases new video singing "Panama" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi2lSk1JkFA&t=51s In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Alex Van Halen, drummer and co-founder of Van Halen, revealed that the tribute show for Eddie Van Halen didn’t happen because of David Lee Roth. According to Alex, when he suggested they find a way to acknowledge Eddie during the shows, Roth became furious and refused to participate. This is why the tribute shows for Eddie, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 65, never materialized. “The thing that broke the camel’s back, and I can be honest about this now was I said, ‘Dave, at some point, we have to have a very overt — not a bowing — but an acknowledgment of Ed in the gig. If you look at how Queen does it, they show old footage.’ And the moment I said we gotta acknowledge Ed, Dave fuckin’ popped a fuse.… The vitriol that came out was unbelievable". “I’m from the street. You talk to me like that, motherfucker, I’m gonna beat your fucking brains out. You got it?’ And I mean that. And that’s how it ended. It’s just, my God. It’s like I didn’t know him anymore. I have nothing but the utmost respect for his work ethic and all that. But, Dave, you gotta work as a community, motherfucker. It’s not you alone anymore." “It’s too bad on one hand, but it’s fine on the other (that it didn’t happen). Because now, in retrospect, playing the old songs is not really paying tribute to anybody. That’s just like a jukebox, in my opinion.… To find a replacement for Ed? It’s just not the same,” Alex Van Halen said. The post David Lee Roth releases new video singing “Panama” appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Gene Simmons explains why he thinks Rock is still dead

Gene Simmons helped to form Kiss in New York City back in 1973 alongside Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss. They became one of the most influential Hard Rock bands of all time and inspired countless groups over the decades. In the music business since the early 70s, Simmons had the chance to see the evolution of Rock and Roll music but for a few years already, he thinks that the music genre is dead. In an interview with The Zak Kuhn Show (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), he explained why he thinks Rock is still dead. Gene Simmons explains why he thinks Rock is still dead "It is. And people don't understand how I can say that when we all have our favorite songs and we love our favorite bands — you and I and everybody else. But what I mean is that… Well, let's play a game, and I've done this before. From 1958 until 1988, that's 30 years. 30 years. So what came during that period? Well, we had Elvis , we had The Beatles, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, all that, Pink Floyd, the solo artists, David Bowie and just music that lasts forever, we'd like to think." "In the disco world, you had Madonna, more heavy guitars, you had — Oh God — AC/DC and everybody else, Aerosmith and on and on. And you had Motown at the same time. You had Prince. It was a very, very rich musical menu. It could go up and down. You had prog bands, you had Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, and you had the heavy bands, Led Zeppelin and so on. And from 1988 until today, it's something like almost 40 years, certainly 35 years. Who are the new Beatles?" Kiss came to an end as a band in 2023 after five decades on the road. Their final shows happened at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. Gene Simmons already toured a lot in 2024 with his solo band, but Paul Stanley still didn't play live again after the final Kiss show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt2n5Zc4q1I&t=32sThe post Gene Simmons explains why he thinks Rock is still dead appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Geddy Lee’s opinion on Jack Bruce and Cream

Geddy Lee’s opinion on Jack Bruce and Cream

During the 60s many incredible bass players changed the course of Rock and Roll and one of them was certainly Cream's bass player and singer Jack Bruce. He was an inspiration for countless musicians over the decades and a crucial part of the evolution of bass playing. During the next years many other power trios appeared and one of them was the Canadian Progressive Rock band Rush, which also had Geddy Lee a bassist/singer. But what is Geddy's opinion on Jack Bruce and Cream? What is Geddy Lee’s opinion on Jack Bruce and Cream As expected, Geddy Lee is a huge fan of Cream and the late legendary bassist, singer and songwriter Jack Bruce. He was lucky enough to have seen them playing in Canada back in 1968 and since his friends didn't want to go, he decided to go see them on his own. It was a life changing moment that became a huge inspiration for his career. He recalled that in an interview with Sirius XM Classic Vinyl Influences show in 2013 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage). “Cream sort of changed my life. They blew my mind and I remember they were coming to Toronto. I couldn’t get any of my friends interested to go see them, they were playing at Massey Hall and I went down and bought a ticket and I went by myself.” “I just had to see them, they were such an important band to me. Jack Bruce’s bass playing was just out of this world. Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, I mean they were the ultimate trio. The most influential band in my entire career in many ways.” “The day I bought the ticket I was walking through a department store, because it was chilly out. All the televisions in the TV department had shots of Robert Kennedy. It was the day that Robert Kennedy was shot. So it’s another thing that I sadly never forget, but Cream were a really incredible band to me. It was incredible to see them live back in the day,” Geddy Lee said. Geddy Lee chose Jack Bruce as his "Rock God" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCc00pX_pFA&pp=ygUQY3JlYW0gd2hpdGUgcm9vbQ%3D%3D Geddy said many times that Cream and Jack Bruce's bass playing was a huge inspiration for Rush in the early days of the band. He is such a big fan of his work that in an interview with BBC in 2019 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage), he chose Bruce as his "Rock God". “I was a very young, aspiring musician in Toronto, Canada. Jack Bruce’s bass parts that slipped behind Eric Clapton’s soloing always really grabbed my ear. I remember in 1969, seeing an advertisement for Cream coming to Toronto at the prestigious Massey Hall, which was our Opera house.” “I went to Massey Hall, bought my single ticket and came back for that show. It was one of the strangest and greatest experiences of my life. Because I got a balcony seat. So I was overlooking the stage and I was so close to them. I remember being so enamored with them and watching Jack Bruce. So it was one of the greatest, most memorable shows I’ve ever seen. Then I went of course, to follow Jack Bruce’s solo career (after that),” Geddy Lee said. Geddy Lee, of course, talked about Cream many times over the decades. Some of his favorite songs by them are: "White Room" and their versions for "Spoonful" and "Crossroads". Curiously, Rush recorded a version for "Crossroads" on their 2004 covers album "Feedback". The song was composed and first recorded by Robert Johnson in 1936. The post Geddy Lee’s opinion on Jack Bruce and Cream appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.
