While this update doesn’t bring many new features, it addresses several lacking functions users were waiting for in Apple Vision Pro. That said, this is what you should expect from visionOS 2 beta 7 at this moment: Spatial photos: With visionOS 2 beta, users can revisit past memories by creating spatial photos directly from their library in the Photos app.  Mac Virtual Display: It will feature a higher resolution and larger size, creating an ultra-wide display equivalent to two 4K monitors side by side.  Home View:  Users can now personalize their Home View by rearranging apps and placing them wherever they want, including their compatible iPhone and iPad apps visionOS 2 beta makes navigating Apple Vision Pro faster and easier for users to access key functions with new hand gestures to get to frequently used features like Home View and Control Center. New gestures allow users to see important information at a glance, like the current time and battery level, and perform actions like adjusting the volume. In addition, travelers can experience their favorite apps on the go with a new Travel mode for trains. visionOS 2 beta 7 also adds: Guest user: For those moments when a user wants to share their Vision Pro, a family member or colleague can be added as a Guest User and have their eye and hand data saved for 30 days. The Apple TV app brings support for multiview to Apple Vision Pro for the ultimate sports-viewing experience. Later this year, fans can watch up to five simultaneous streams to keep track of all their favorite sports and teams. To help users achieve calm and focus, the Mindfulness app includes a new capability called Follow Your Breathing that presents dynamic visual animations and sounds that respond to the user’s breathing patterns. A week after seeding beta 6, Apple is now releasing watchOS 11 beta 7 to Apple Watch developers. While this wearable won’t get Apple Intelligence, Cupertino follows the regular schedule of this upcoming software update, expected to be released later this fall. With watchOS 11 beta 7, Apple finally lets users customize their Activity Rings. Thanks to this change, the Activity Rings will understand planned rest days, injuries, or days off without affecting the award streak. It’s also possible to customize Activity Ring goals by the day of the week, so your leg workout might differ from the one you go for an outdoor run. Additionally, the Fitness app allows users to customize the Summary tab to show exactly the metrics they want to see, including their friends’. Apple’s watchOS 11 beta also introduced a new Vitals app, which focuses on health and well-being features. This app allows users to quickly view key health metrics and gain better context about their health. This Apple Watch app (alongside insights from the Fitness app for iPhone users) helps you understand if you’re on a typical range or if you’re overreaching or missing too many workouts. When two or more metrics are out of their typical range, users can receive a notification and a message detailing how changes in these specific metrics may be linked to other aspects of their lives, such as elevation changes, alcohol consumption, or even illness. With Training Load, it measures how the intensity and duration of workouts impact a user’s body over time. Training load helps users understand the strain on their body from workouts over the last seven days compared to the last 28 days. Apple says these insights can help you prepare for an event, such as a marathon, bike race, or your first 5K, or just make informed decisions about your training each day. In addition, Smart Stack adds new widgets, including Shazam, Photos, Distance, and more. It can also suggest widgets based on time, date, location, daily routines, and more. Following the beta release of Apple Intelligence for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Sequoia, Apple keeps the regular testing cycle of tvOS 18 with beta 7. As the official release nears, we’re still expecting Cupertino to add the new TV and Movies screensavers announced during the WWDC 2024 keynote. However, there are some features tvOS 18 beta testers can already try. Within the Apple TV app, Apple is adding three new features that will make everyday usage way better when enjoying Apple TV+ content: InSight: An Amazon Prime Video-like feature that displays timely information about actors, characters, and music from Apple TV+ movies and shows onscreen in real-time. A new type of health AI assistant can accurately detect health conditions just by looking at your tongue. Medical researchers designed the assistant to look for specific colors and conditions on the tongue. The algorithm behind the AI has proven so effective that it can accurately detect the conditions the patient is suffering from 98 percent of the time. The new AI is part of the research detailed in a paper published in the journal Technologies. The researchers used 60 photos gathered from teaching hospitals in the Middle East and fed them into the algorithm. The photos were all taken from various patients, all of which were suffering from different conditions like COVID-19 and even gastrointestinal issues. Image source: catalin / Adobe In these tests, the AI health assistant was able to accurately detect which condition the patient was suffering from just by examining the color of their tongue. But creating this system was not an easy job. The researchers first took 5,200 photos of patients’ tongues and then added the corresponding information about their diagnoses using six separate ML algorithms. This allowed them to accurately predict the tongue color under any lighting condition, the paper reports. The researchers say that the color, thickness, and shape of the tongue can reveal a “litany of health conditions,” and building an AI capable of understanding that will help doctors discover and diagnose conditions much more reliably. While the process relies on a health AI assistant to do the heavy lifting, it actually builds on medicine practices that date back centuries, the researchers note in their paper. Being able to understand the condition of the tongue can help us understand what is going on in a patient’s body without needing to invade their privacy any more than required, and this kind of medical AI will only make that even easier.
