NASA Delays Next Astronaut Launch While Figuring Out How To Bring Current Ones Home

The ongoing troubles of the Boeing Starliner capsule are affecting the schedule of launches to the International Space Station (ISS). The starship is on its first crewed flight test and it has been a partial success. While it flew to orbit with no issues, it experienced delays and once on approach, thrusters malfunctioned. Since then, NASA astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams have been conducting tests and found jobs to perform on the ISS.The ISS is divided into two sections: the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS) put together by Roscosmos, and the US Orbital Segment (USOS), built by NASA, JAXA, ESA, and CSA. There are two docks on the US segment: one has Starliner and the other one has Crew-8’s Crew Dragon capsule. So one has to vacate before the next Crew Dragon gets there.Usually, there are several days of overlap between the two crewed missions, handing over responsibilities, passing on advice, working plans, etc. Crew-9 was supposed to launch on August 18 and Crew-8 was supposed to land on August 27. Now, Crew-9 won’t launch earlier than September 24.“This adjustment allows more time for mission managers to finalize return planning for the agency’s Boeing Crew Flight Test currently docked to the orbiting laboratory,” NASA wrote in a statement. “NASA and Boeing continue to evaluate the spacecraft’s readiness, and no decisions have been made regarding Starliner’s return.”As it stands, the best possible option is for Wilmore and Williams to stay in orbit. While the mission has become much longer than the original one week, the space station has plenty of provisions to accommodate two extra astronauts for as long as they need – and it is immensely cheaper than mounting a rescue mission with an empty capsule. That approach is not unheard of. That’s how cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin, together with astronaut Frank Rubio, got back to Earth when their Soyuz capsule was damaged by a micrometeorite in orbit. It is unclear at this time if NASA will do that. Starliner has been marred by delays. The initial plan anticipated the first crewed test in 2017 but it was postponed multiple times until it got to August 2023, and then to May 2024. The delay this year was to fix a problem with the parachute system and wiring harnesses. On May 6, the launch was scrubbed two hours before liftoff. More delays were accumulated and another launch was scrubbed on June 1, due to a faulty power supply.

"World’s Oldest Calendar" May Depict Catastrophic Comet Impact 13,000 Years Ago

A cataclysmic comet impact 13,000 years ago may have sparked the rise of civilization, according to the authors of a new study. The event – which many scientists believe never happened – may even be documented at the world-famous site of Göbekli Tepe, forming part of a series of carvings that the researchers say represent the world’s oldest solar calendar.Located in southern Türkiye, Göbekli Tepe is a pre-pottery Neolithic complex that is estimated to be around 12,000 years old. Analyzing an intricately carved pillar at the site, the study authors propose that V-shaped symbols represent days of the year, with a total of 365 markings divided into 12 lunar months plus 11 additional – or epagomenal – days. The summer solstice, meanwhile, is depicted as a bird-like deity – possibly representing the constellation Virgo, where the sun would have been located at this time of year – with a V around its neck. According to the researchers, representations of figures with similar V-shaped necklaces at associated sites have been interpreted as “time-controlling or creator deities”.Because the carvings appear to track both the movement of the Sun and the phases of the Moon, the study authors suggest that the pillar represents the world’s earliest lunisolar calendar. Perhaps even more astonishingly, the ancient engravings seem to illustrate the changing positions of constellations in the sky, indicating an appreciation of the concept of precession 10,000 years before it was first documented by the Ancient Greek astronomer Hipparchus.Yet the study’s most striking find relates to a separate pillar, which appears to illustrate the Taurid meteor stream moving through the constellations Aquarius and Pisces over a period of several weeks. This barrage of bollides has been proposed as the source of a comet strike some time around 10,850 BCE, which may have triggered a mini Ice Age known as the Younger Dryas. It’s important to note the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis is strongly opposed by many researchers, who say there is no evidence that the event was caused by a collision. Nevertheless, the study authors propose that Göbekli Tepe itself may have been constructed as a memorial to this hypothetical strike.“It appears the inhabitants of Göbekli Tepe were keen observers of the sky, which is to be expected given their world had been devastated by a comet strike,” explained study author Dr Martin Sweatman in a statement. “This event might have triggered civilisation by initiating a new religion and by motivating developments in agriculture to cope with the cold climate,” he said.In their write-up, the researchers develop this idea by explaining that “religion might already have existed elsewhere… but the Younger Dryas impact might have triggered a novel, catastrophic form.” “Fear is a powerful organizing principle in human society and the Younger Dryas impact would undoubtedly have inspired great fear and awe. Thus, this event can provide the motivation for the grand construction projects of Göbekli Tepe and related sites,” they say.Such a fearful religion – which may have centered around a “skull cult” – might therefore have provided the spark for large-scale communal organization and the building of monumental structures, effectively “triggering the origin of civilization,” the researchers conclude. The study is published in the journal Time and Mind.

Harvard TRIES and FAILS to Stop Jewish Students From Suing

“Justice, justice you shall pursue…” (Deuteronomy 16:20) The racial Marxists running Harvard University tried… and FAILED to stop their Jewish students from attempting to sue them. U.S. district judge Richard Stearns denied the school’s plea, Tuesday, to dismiss a lawsuit accusing it of being a safe space for raging Jew haters. His 25-page decision claimed the six student plaintiffs make credible allegations that Harvard not only failed to respond to antisemitic harassment and physical violence by faculty and classmates, but the school “failed its Jewish students” entirely.  He also said he was “dubious” Harvard could argue the First Amendment protected the campus jihadists. Apparently, calling for the genocide of Jewish students does NOT “depend on the context”  - like their former DEI president Claudine Gay said in her disastrous testimony to the House Committee investigating antisemitism.  Harvard’s students initially filed the lawsuit against their school in January, only eighteen days after Gay resigned from her position in disgrace. The university quickly mustered a Jewish replacement to the dismay of campus Hamas fans, who waved banners depicting him as a devil with horns. But as Jewish as he was advertised, he still allegedly sat on his hands while the campus erupted further into what looked like a scene from 1930’s Germany… at least that’s how plaintiff and Harvard alum Shabbos Kestenbaum feels. The same Alan Garber who smiled and nodded during Claudine Gay’s “context-dependent” answer did nothing when Harvard Professors published an antisemitic cartoon, students began monitoring Jews during the encampments, and daily calls for an intifada greeted us on our way to class pic.twitter.com/CSpyXBohfG — Shabbos Kestenbaum (@ShabbosK) August 4, 2024 In May, Harvard’s student body joined the nationwide campaign to make campuses Judenrein by trashing their campus with a month-long hobo encampment. They upped the ante from earlier stunts featuring masked mobs cornering Jewish students and creeching the word, “shame” in their faces.  “Mobs of pro-Hamas students and faculty have marched by the hundreds through Harvard’s campus, shouting vile antisemitic slogans and calling for death to Jews and Israel,” describes the lawsuit. “Those mobs have occupied buildings, classrooms, libraries, student lounges, plazas, and study halls, often for days or weeks at a time, promoting violence against Jews.” If the lawsuit successfully finds that the university violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Harvard may stand to lose its federal funding.
