Biden Unveils Plan To Dramatically Change The Supreme Court, Attacks Recent Decisions

President Joe Biden called for term limits for Supreme Court justices on Monday after weeks of attacking previous court decisions on presidential immunity and abortion. In an op-ed in the Washington Post, Biden revealed three major changes he wants done at the high court as he finishes his presidency. These changes include term limits for justices, a new ethics code for justices, and an amendment cracking down on presidential immunity.  “This nation was founded on a simple yet profound principle: No one is above the law,” Biden wrote. “Not the president of the United States. Not a justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. No one.” Biden claimed that the court’s recent 6-3 decision to side with former President Donald Trump’s assertion of broad presidential immunity for exercising core constitutional powers would allow presidents to commit crimes and put “virtually no limits on what a president can do.” In response to that decision, Biden is calling for an amendment that would “make clear that there is no immunity for crimes a former president committed while in office.” Biden’s campaign recently referred to the court as the “Trump Supreme Court” and said it was “out of touch with what the founders intended” over the court’s immunity decision. He also attacked the court over its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and return the issue of abortion to the states.  Biden, who has appointed just one Supreme Court justice, also called for term limits for justices.  “That would make timing for court nominations more predictable and less arbitrary,” he wrote. “It would reduce the chance that any single presidency radically alters the makeup of the court for generations to come.” He said he would want a system where a president would appoint a new justice about every two years for 18 years of service on the court. Trump appointed three justices during his presidency.  Biden also called for a new ethics code on the court amid a barrage of media coverage targeting conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito over financial disclosures. Liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor has also faced questions after The Daily Wire reported that she declined to recuse herself from multiple copyright infringement cases involving book publisher Penguin Random House despite having been paid millions by the firm for a book deal.  “For example, undisclosed gifts to justices from individuals with interests in cases before the court, as well as conflicts of interest connected with Jan. 6 insurrectionists, raise legitimate questions about the court’s impartiality,” Biden wrote.  Biden’s sweeping proposals will likely face an uphill battle as many Republicans have already come out against them, saying that the president is seeking to further politicize the court.

Tech Giants Face Scrutiny As Trump Assassination Attempt is Omitted From Autosuggest and AI

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Google is facing criticism after users reported that the search engine is refusing to fill in autocomplete results about the failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The search engine giant’s autocomplete system ignored any references to the July 13 event, which has sparked outrage and allegations that Google is manipulating search outcomes favoring the upcoming presidential election. Curiously, the screenshots taken from Google exhibited search suggestions linked to historic events, such as ex-President Ford’s and Ronald Reagan’s unsuccessful assassinations, along with the triggering assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, which initiated World War I, and more. The attempted assassination of Donald Trump was conspicuously missing. The term “assassination attempt trump” turned up void on Google, according to multiple users’ accounts. Google Search, July 29th 2024. The autosuggest omits references to President Trump. DuckDuckGo Search, July 29th 2024. The autosuggest references President Trump. Brave Search, July 29th 2024. The autosuggest references President Trump. Donald Trump Jr. responded fervently via X, exclaiming, “Big Tech is trying to interfere in the election AGAIN to help Kamala Harris. We all know this is intentional election interference from Google. Truly despicable.” The search engine giant denied any targeted action on their predictive results. A spokesperson stated, “No manual action was exercised on these predictions.” They further elaborated that Google’s systems are designed to filter autocomplete predictions connected to politically violent incidents, which had been functioning exactly as expected before the horrifying act took place. “We are striving to update our systems in order to accommodate such incidents more effectively,” they added. It’s not just Google that is being questioned on its handling of important news. Meta’s AI said that it doesn’t always have up-to-date information and so couldn’t answer the question about President Donald Trump’s assassination attempt but could answer questions related to Vice President Kamala Harris’ Presidential campaign which was more recent than the attack on President Trump. As the US presidential election approaches, it’s becoming clear that AI chatbots are steering clear of political discussions and breaking news, showing a hesitance to engage with such topics outside of the basics. Big Tech companies are at the forefront of pushing for an AI revolution, aiming to integrate their AI systems deeply into everyday digital experiences. However, as these AI tools become more embedded in platforms like search engines and social media, their inability to handle politically sensitive content raises important questions about information accessibility and bias. Such omissions could potentially influence public awareness and opinion, particularly in the politically charged environment of an upcoming presidential election. This incident has sparked a broader debate about the role of AI in filtering and shaping political information.
