Walking us through his ink. Most fans know that Cody Johnson has a little bit of ink, as you can see a piece of his hand tattoos peeling out from the end of his pearl snap shirts as he performs on stage, but not all fans might know that he's got a lot more ink than those hand tattoos. Johnson recently showed CMT all of his tattoos on a tattoo tour. He broke down each tattoo and its meaning so his fans could see and learn more about what is important to him. Johnson kicks off the tour with his first tattoo, a giant cross on his back. But Johnson also points out an unconventional "tattoo" near his cross. "My very first tattoo is my worst tattoo. And if you look above the tattoo, there's a really serious tattoo. That was from neck surgery, so I think that counts. Scars are tattoos, too." Johnson then moves to the tattoos on his arms, starting with his hands and working his way up. "If you go to my hands, this was the first one I put on my hand. It's the Rockin' CJB for our band logo we came up with a long time ago, back when it was The Cody Johnson Band." On his hand, he has four tattoos that signify very important things to him in his life. He has the logo for what used to be the Cody Johnson Band, his CoJo logo, which is found all over his camp. It's put on everything related to Cody Johnson, from merch to buses. "The reason I put these on my hand is so when you shake my hand, you know what I'm about, you know what I represent. It's a sense of accountability, the people I work hard for, the standards I live up to. Kind of the moral code that I have, and I just put that there so I can remind myself." Moving onto his arm, he has a sleeve with four large tattoos, three representing the most important girls in his life. He has his wife's name, Brandi, and is surrounded by flowers that grow near her birthday. A sunshine design honoring his daughter, Clara Mae, that she designed for her father, and then a Valentine's Day for his second daughter, Cori, who was born a few days after the holiday. He also has a large piece on his forearm filled with Texas pine trees with the words "Native ETX" to signify where he calls home. "That's where I'm from. I'll always be a native of East Texas. No matter where in the world I'll go to play music, I'll always call that home."  Johnson then has a Resistol hat logo when he got his hat deal and a Texas outline filled with red bricks to honor his time working the state penitentiary as a corrections officer. Johnson's final tattoo is a line on the bottom of his foot, which he got on his bus. "The last one I'm going to show you has a little bit of a story, so I'm going to have to sit down. So one night after a show, Buffalo Jake (his tattoo artist) and I are having a conversation about all the things he's tattooed all over people's bodies. And I said, 'What haven't you tattooed?' And he said the bottom of a foot.  So we put one foot over a line. In Waylon Jennings' song 'I've Always Been Crazy,' it says 'I've always been different/ with one foot over a line.' So, that's what I put."  Johnson shows off the simple line on the bottom of his foot, tipping his hat to the country music legend. However, when tattooing the bottom of his foot, there might have been a mess up or two with a few chicken scratch lines around the bolder line. Cody Johnson has a lot of very well-done ink on his body, with each tattoo carrying significant weight.
