Microsoft is bringing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III to Xbox Game Pass

Image: Activision Microsoft is bringing last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III to Xbox Game Pass tomorrow. It’s the first time a Call of Duty game will be available on Game Pass, and it’s the last in Activision’s franchise to have PlayStation-exclusive content now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be available for Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on July 24th. The announcement comes just weeks after Microsoft revealed price hikes for its subscription service. Microsoft announced price hikes for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass earlier this month. The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on Game Pass could soften the blow of the price increases, which, in... Continue reading…

Netflix has a new gaming boss after hiring former Epic exec

Illustration by Nick Barclay / The Verge There’s a new name in charge of Netflix’s ongoing gaming efforts. As Variety reports, the streamer has hired Alain Tascan as the new president of its gaming division, after he previously served as executive VP of game development at Fortnite maker Epic Games. The news comes as the game division’s former boss, Mike Verdu, moved into a different role at Netflix focused on a new team “on the cutting edge of game innovation.” In his previous role at Epic, which he held since 2018, Tascan was in charge of the company’s first-party output, which included not only Fortnite and its various modes like Lego Fortnite but also other live-service games like Rocket League and Fall Guys. In a statement, Tascan explained that he took the role at the... Continue reading…

Apple’s first foldable iPhone could arrive in 2026

Photo by Dan Seifert / The Verge Apple continues to work on a foldable iPhone, which could arrive as early as 2026, according to a report from The Information. The phone is rumored to fold horizontally, like the clamshell-style Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. In February, The Information reported that Apple was in the early stages of developing two folding iPhone prototypes. But now, it seems Apple may have settled on a design, as The Information says the device has an internal nickname, V68, indicating “the idea has moved beyond the conceptual stage” and is now ”in development with suppliers.” Photo by Allison Johnson / The Verge Apple’s folding iPhone could look similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. Apple is reportedly still working to flatten... Continue reading…

Chuck Schumer plans to bring two major kids online safety bills to the Senate floor this week

Photo by Alex Wong / Getty Images Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) plans to announce in a speech that he will bring the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0) to the Senate floor this week for a procedural vote. This tees up the biggest step yet on the federal level to move forward with a law in the area of children’s online safety legislation. “Over the past few months I’ve met with families from across the country who have gone through the worst thing a parent could endure – losing a child,” Schumer said in a statement. “Rather than retreating into the darkness of their loss, these families lit a candle for others with their advocacy. I am proud to work side-by-side with them and put on the floor... Continue reading…

Samsung is working on ‘radically different’ Galaxy AI phones

Samsung is working on ‘radically different’ Galaxy AI phones

Samsung unveiled two foldable phones that also happen to be Galaxy AI phones. That is, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 feature a few extra genAI tricks on top of the Galaxy AI features that Samsung introduced earlier this year on the Galaxy S24 series. In some ways, the foldables are great form factors for using AI on the go. For example, the Fold 6's stylus support lets you draw sketches that the AI can turn into images. You can use your finger for the same purpose on the Flip 6, but it's not quite the same. Then there's the Interpreter live translation feature that takes advantage of the folded screen so everyone can see the conversation. Any Samsung phone can be turned into a Galaxy AI device as long as the hardware supports it. Rather than just add Ai to the same old devices, however, Samsung is working on some "radically different" AI phones that might shake things up a bit. Continue reading... New report may finally tell us when Apple’s iPhone Fold release will happen

New report may finally tell us when Apple’s iPhone Fold release will happen

A new report suggests Apple is dead serious about a foldable iPhone. The company has ramped up the project with a 2026 release goal. According to The Information, Apple gave this project a "V68" codename, which suggests this is no longer just an idea but a product Apple wants to keep developing. The report highlights a "clamshell" design for its foldable iPhone, which could make it similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola's Razr phones. As previously rumored, Cupertino has been struggling to eliminate a visible crease where the iPhone's screen would fold. However, the company believes it can overcome this issue. With the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung was able to make the crease less visible. Although it's still there, it's becoming less prominent. In a couple of years, it's possible it could completely disappear. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 display. Image source: Chris Smith, BGR This is not the first time The Information reported on a foldable iPhone. In February, the publication said this device was in "early development," and Apple wanted a Galaxy Z Flip-like foldable iPhone as thin as current iPhone models—just a reminder: The iPhone 15 Pro is 8.25mm thicker. The report believes Apple started this project around 2020, but it might need a few more years until it’s completed. More interestingly, Korean outlet The Elec has recently learned that Apple is considering a 2026 or 2027 release date for a foldable device about the same size as the iPad mini. The report doesn’t call it a phone. Previous rumors said that Apple’s first foldable device might be a tablet rather than an iPhone.  While The Information believes a 2026 release makes more sense, The Elec points out that 2027 would mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone with an OLED panel. The latter isn’t really a cause for celebration. The 2017 iPhone X had to be different because Apple celebrated the handset’s 10th anniversary. And the OLED screen allowed Apple to make an all-screen display in addition to the TrueDepth system. However, making a foldable iPhone in 2027 to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary would be a big deal. Thanks to this report, I now think this could be Apple’s ultimate goal, which is to reshape once again how we use and interact with our iPhones by introducing a foldable variant.
