Hacker stole OpenAI secrets in 2023, raising questions about foreign actors hacking AI companies in the future

The New York Times recently reported that OpenAI experienced a "major security incident," which raises concerns about the security and safety of AI companies in the future. The development also suggests that AI companies could be a major hotspot for foreign actors to infiltrate.Former OpenAI employee Leopold Aschenbrenner alluded to the incident in a recent podcast episode. While he referred to it as a "major security incident," other unnamed company sources told the Times that the hacker only obtained an employee discussion forum. The nature of this discussion forum is unknown.'While we share his commitment to building safe A.G.I., we disagree with many of the claims he has since made about our work.'Tech Crunch reported that no security breach should be taken lightly, but what the hacker obtained from OpenAI was minor compared to what they could have gained access to, such as models in progress, internal systems, and secret roadmaps. The hack occurred in April 2023, but executives at the company decided not to disclose the news publicly because no information about customers or partners had been accessed during the hack. However, it appears that these executives did not consider that such a hack could represent a national security risk, according to the Times.Furthermore, the company operated under the assumption that the hacker was an individual and did not have any ties to a foreign government. The FBI was not informed of the incident at the time, according to the report. — (@) Aschenbrenner said he was fired by OpenAI this spring for leaking confidential information to those outside the company. However, he argued that his firing was politically motivated. One of the bits of information Aschenbrenner revealed during the podcast episode was that OpenAI's security infrastructure was not strong enough to keep out foreign actors who wished to gain access to the company's secrets.Despite Aschenbrenner's accusations, OpenAI spokeswoman Liz Bourgeois said "[w]e appreciate the concerns Leopold raised while at OpenAI, and this did not lead to his separation."“While we share his commitment to building safe A.G.I., we disagree with many of the claims he has since made about our work. This includes his characterizations of our security, notably this incident, which we addressed and shared with our board before he joined the company," she added.Though foreign actors did not appear to gain access to the company's most sensitive information, this incident could represent risks moving forward. As AI continues to progress at exponential rates, it is possible other governments not friendly to the U.S. could try to gather secrets through organized hacking operations.Like Blaze News? Doctors surprised by results after giving oxytocin in nasal spray form to subjects with loneliness: Study

A team of European and Israeli doctors released an interesting study that recorded the results of administering oxytocin as a nasal spray to lonely people. Oxytocin is generally known as the feel-good hormone.Futurism reported that oxytocin is usually released during physical intimacy, but it can be released during other activities, too. The study was published in the journal Psychother Psychosom.'This is a very important observation that we made — oxytocin was able to strengthen the positive relationship with the other group members and reduce acute feelings of loneliness right from the start.'The abstract of the study stated:Loneliness poses a significant health problem and existing psychological interventions have shown only limited positive effects on loneliness. Based on preliminary evidence for impaired oxytocin signaling in trait-like loneliness, the current proof-of-concept study used a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design to probe intranasal oxytocin (OT) as an adjunct to a short-term modular-based group intervention for individuals suffering from high trait-like loneliness. The study found that while subjects did not report a dramatic decrease in perceived loneliness, perceived stress, or quality of life, they did report a decrease in acute feelings of loneliness. While it is a small distinction, the most surprising development was that the effects of the nasal spray appeared to linger for months after it was first administered. The paper's senior author, Jana Lieberz, said: "The psychological intervention was associated with a reduced perception of stress and an improvement in general loneliness in all treatment groups, which was still visible at the follow-up examination after three months."Another report noted that "[l]oneliness is not a disease. And yet it is a significant health problem. Depression, heart disease or dementia - people who are permanently lonely have a higher risk of becoming ill."Futurism reported that oxytocin is associated with bonding, and the findings of the study seemed to suggest that subjects had an easier time connecting with others during group therapy sessions that they were enrolled in."This is a very important observation that we made — oxytocin was able to strengthen the positive relationship with the other group members and reduce acute feelings of loneliness right from the start," Leiberz said. "It could therefore be helpful to support patients with this at the start of psychotherapy. This is because we know that patients can initially feel worse than before starting therapy as soon as problems are named. The observed effects of administering oxytocin can in turn help those affected to stay on the ball and continue."Though the trial size was relatively small, the results are promising. However, it is not certain if this could be a remedy for loneliness in the future. Researchers said more studies must be conducted on this issue.Like Blaze News? Republicans demand answers from White House doctor who gave president glowing health report, business dealings with Biden family

House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is demanding answers from White House physician Kevin O’Connor regarding the mental health of President Joe Biden as well as past business dealings with the president's younger brother.“After a concerning debate performance by President Biden against former President Donald Trump on June 27, journalists have rushed to report on what Americans have seen plainly for years: the President appears unwell," Comer wrote. "Americans question President Biden’s ability to lead the country, and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating circumstances surrounding your assessment in February of this year that ‘President Biden is a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old-male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency."Comer continued, "Recently, it was reported that you have ‘never recommended that [President] Biden take a cognitive test.’ The Oversight Committee is concerned your medical assessments have been influenced by your private business endeavors with the Biden family." In the February health report, O'Connor claimed Biden "continues to be fit for duty and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations."In O'Connor's glowing report released in 2023, the White House doctor gushed: "President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief."Representative Comer is calling on O'Connor to appear for a transcribed interview "regarding his medical assessments of President Biden and his private endeavors with the Biden family’s business schemes." Comer described the business dealings as the "Biden family’s influence-peddling schemes."The Biden family business schemes in question involve O'Connor, the president's brother James Biden, and Americore Health, LLC – a company that operates hospitals in rural areas and is now involved in bankruptcy proceedings.During a closed-door deposition in February, James Biden told the House Oversight Committee that O'Connor served as a consultant in assisting him with proposals for “filling these hospitals” from which Americore sought to profit.“I had gotten through his — as Vice President, his personal physician was Colonel Kevin O’Connor,” James Biden said in the interview.Americore’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy trustee, Carol Fox, previously told the committee that James Biden had received two loans for amounts of $400,000 and $200,000 from Americore. The president's brother reportedly claimed he could "open doors" to secure Middle Eastern investments because of the Biden family name. The same day James Biden received the $200,000 wire transfer from Americore, he wrote his brother a $200,000 check, according to Comer. The check was labeled as "loan repayment," House investigators determined.Comer said to O'Connor on Sunday, "You have repeatedly refused most interview requests from the media, and the Committee now turns to you to provide answers regarding your independence because of the mixed and confused messaging coming from the White House regarding the President’s ability to perform his job."He added, "Given your connections with the Biden family, the Committee also seeks to understand if you are in a position to provide accurate and independent reviews of the President’s fitness to serve."Comer requested "all documents and communications in your possession regarding Americore and James Biden."Like Blaze News?
