NBC for Rent? Two Post-Roe Horror Stories Promote Pro-Abort Plaintiffs, Biden Themes

On Monday and again on Friday, the NBC Nightly News composed “news” stories channeling the pro-abortion message of the Center for Reproductive Rights, showcasing their plaintiffs against Republicans who would deny women “life-saving” abortions. On Friday, NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor told the story of Nicole Miller of Boise, Idaho, who started bleeding in her 20th week of pregnancy last fall and was flown to Utah, where her baby boy was aborted. Viewers were told she was a CRR plaintiff.  They also quoted a family physician Loren Colson, who said current pro-life laws put doctors in an "impossible situation." That's a nice match, since Colson has also appeared on a reproductive-rights panel with Biden's HHS Secretary and spoke at the "Frank Church Gala," the main fundraiser of the Idaho Democratic Party. The pro-life Republican view only surfaced as uninformed and unsympathetic: ALCINDOR: Earlier this year, Idaho attorney general Raul Labrador said that's not happening. RAUL LABRADOR:  It's really hard for me to conceive of a single incident where a woman has to be air-lifted out of Idaho to perform an abortion. ALCINDOR:  What do you think about that? MILLER: I heard about that. Anger. Having an abortion that day saved my life. On Monday's Nightly News, Lester Holt hyped the "devastating impact" of preventing abortions, like abortions don't devastate humans: LESTER HOLT: It was almost two years ago today that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, clearing the way for states to impose new restrictions on abortion, including Texas, where Laura Jarrett spoke with five women who have faced a devastating impact. Jarrett sat down with five women who are all CRR plaintiffs. "Recent data over the last two years showing more women forced to travel for care since Dobbs – women like Jessica Bernardo, one of a group of women who filed a lawsuit against the state last year, with the help of the Center for Reproductive Rights, alleging they were denied abortions in Texas." At Jarrett's prompting, the quintet all raised their hands to predictable questions: "How many of you were told you could not receive an abortion because the baby still had a heartbeat?" All five raised their hands.  Then Jarrett asked: "How many of you are worried that someone is gonna die from these laws?" All give raised there hands, and Amanda Zurawski said "If they haven't already." ironically predicted that many would die from Texas laws enacted to protect unborn children from abortion, "If they haven't already." Before that exercise, Jarrett underlined that this pro-abortion message is a central focus of the Biden-Harris campaign: "Rallies across the country today as the Biden campaign tries to draw a direct line from Mr. Trump to Dobbs." Then, a clip of a campaign ad: "Decades of progress shattered just because the last guy got four years in the White House." Jarrett continued the DNC message: "Highlighting women denied abortions, releasing ads focused on their stories, and making it a central focus of the re-election campaign." NBC raises the question: where does the advertising end and the "news" begin? This is Laura Jarrett, the daughter of longtime Obama chief of staff Valerie Jarrett. So NBC also blurs all the lines in who it hires to promote the Democrat themes. Research assistance by Michael Wnek, including the transcript below: NBC Nightly News 6/24/2024 06:39:30 PM EST LESTER HOLT: It was almost two years ago today that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, clearing the way for states to impose new restrictions on abortion, including Texas, where Laura Jarrett spoke with five women who have faced a devastating impact. [Cuts to video] LAUREN MILLER: Pre-Dobbs, we were already in a pretty bad place in Texas. LAURA JARRETT: The day Lauren Miller learned she was pregnant, she started a journal.  MILLER: I didn’t even know it was twins yet. JARRETT: But at 12 weeks, she learned that one of the twins she was carrying had trisomy-18, a rare chromosomal condition making survival highly unlikely. MILLER: You never think that your pregnancy journal is just gonna turn into a horror novel. JARRETT: Because her fetus still had a heartbeat, she couldn't get an abortion under the law in Texas, and she's not alone. How many of you were told you could not receive an abortion because the baby still had a heartbeat? [Group raises their hands] JARRETT: All of you? Texas, like more than a dozen other states, moved swiftly to cut off abortion access after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, two years ago today, in the Dobbs decision. The high court saying then that it was returning the issue of abortion to the people's elected representatives. But what's happened in states since Dobbs, now a fierce fight heading into November. [Cuts to video] FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Getting it back to the states puts the question where it belongs–with the vote of the people. [Cuts back to report] JARRETT: Former President Trump taking full credit for getting Roe overturned, but, more recently, also saying he believes in exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and to save a mother's life.  [Cuts to video] TRUMP: You have to go with your heart. But you have to also remember you have to get elected. [Cuts back to report] JARRETT: Rallies across the country today as the Biden campaign tries to draw a direct line from Mr. Trump to Dobbs.  [Cuts to campaign ad] PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Decades of progress shattered just because the last guy got four years in the White House.  [Cuts back to report] JARRETT: Highlighting women denied abortions, releasing ads focused on their stories, and making it a central focus of the re-election campaign. The Vice President addressing a crowd today. [Cuts to video] VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS: In the case of the stealing of reproductive freedom from the women of America, Donald Trump is guilty. [Cuts back to report] JARRETT: Recent data over the last two years showing more women forced to travel for care since Dobbs–women like Jessica Bernardo, one of a group of women who filed a lawsuit against the state last year, with the help of the Center for Reproductive Rights, alleging they were denied abortions in Texas. Five of them sat down exclusively with Nightly News. JESSICA BERNARDO: I didn't want to wait for having a seizure or heart or renal failure. [Transition] There’s no coming out–back from that. [Transition] It was just infuriating. MILLER: We're not here sounding an alarm about hypothetical scenarios. We're sounding the alarm about what is already happening and what has happened to us. JARRETT: But not everyone has been able to travel. Samantha Casiano learned at her 20-week scan that her baby had anencephaly and would not survive, but could not afford to leave Texas for an abortion. SAMANTHA CASIANO: It was hard and traumatizing. JARRETT: Her baby living only four hours after birth. CASIANO: Knowing that your child is gonna die and planning your child's funeral before your child's even here is insane. JARRETT: Amanda Zurawski had the resources to travel, but says she became too sick too fast to leave Texas in time. AMANDA ZURAWSKI: I didn't even have that option because my doctors told me “You better not be more than 15 minutes away from a hospital.” I have to use a surrogate now because of what happened to me. The damage to my reproductive organs is permanent. JARRETT: The group recently lost their lawsuit to clarify who qualifies for a medical exemption under Texas’ abortion ban and now fear what's still to come. How many of you are worried that someone is gonna die from these laws? [Group raises their hands] ZURAWSKI: If they haven't already. MILLER: Yeah. CASIANO: Yeah. [Cuts back to live] HOLT: And Laura, any day now, the Supreme Court is expected to rule on another major abortion case. JARRETT: Yes, Lester, that right–that's right. It's a dispute about whether hospitals that receive federal funding must perform abortions in medical emergencies even in states where abortion is banned right now. And a decision in that case is expected by the end of this week or early next, Lester. HOLT: Alright. Laura Jarrett, thank you.

PBS 'Washington Week' Memory-Holes 2023 Praise of Biden’s Mental Acuity

The latest Friday edition of Washington Week with The Atlantic, airing on taxpayer-funded PBS, passed around anecdotes of the various levels of panic from Democratic politicians and strategists, after President Biden’s disastrous debate performance. But one exchange in particular, between host and Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg and Atlantic writer Mark Leibovich, was striking: Host Jeffrey Goldberg: So, Mark, let me begin with you. You've been saying for a couple of years, in fact, that Biden’s age is going to be a huge problem for the Democrats. Here`s what you wrote two years ago. Two years ago, by the way, not yesterday: “Biden is by no means the more eloquent character he was in his younger days. It can be painful to watch him give prepared speeches. His tone can be tentative and certain sentences can become hopscotching journeys. His aides in the room look visibly nervous at times. Biden worked to overcome a stutter during his youth and in general it can become more difficult for stutterers to conceal these effects as they age.” So, I have to ask you today, do you feel vindicated in your judgment about the president? Mark Leibovich, The Atlantic: Not necessarily, I mean, I would say that, I’m still kind of stunned by the funereal environment that last night kind of unleashed upon so many Democrats that I’ve been talking to. Look, I think it’s there for all to see. There's been this two-step of Democratic sort of rhetoric, which is, in private, they all basically agree, in public, they are going to sort of vouch for Biden, and say he’s never been sharper and so forth. I wrote that two years ago. I didn’t break the story that he’s old, but I would also argue that even 18 months ago, two years ago, there’s been some decline that a lot of people have noticed. That sounds accurate. It also sounds completely different from this notorious exchange from the same pair, bac on September 1, 2023: Mark Leibovich: Can I just actually just point out, though, that, I mean, it’s not just making an issue of Biden’s age, it’s lying, it’s saying he’s senile, saying he’s demented, saying he’s out of it. I mean, I think it’s important to sort of state for a fact that a lot of these are just -- Jeffrey Goldberg: Right. Mentally, he’s quite acute. Leibovich: It seems like it. Talk about memory-holing! From fretting about Biden’s age and infirmity in June 2022, to defending his mental acuity in September 2023, and now back to the truth only after the truth was plain to see on live television in June 2024. MSNBC: 'Keep a List' of Those, Like 'Ignorant' New York Times, Calling On Biden To Quit

With headlines in the news about a potential civil war in France, looks like we've got the makings of a political civil war breaking out right here at home -- among Democrats and their media allies. In one camp, those calling on Biden to step aside in the wake of his debate debacle. In the other, those rallying around good ol' Joe. That split was on display on Saturday's edition of MSNBC's The Weekend. Co-host Michael Steele called the New York Times, and others calling on Biden to quit, "ignorant." Former Kamala Harris spokesperson Symone Sanders-Townsend then said that: "If I was the Biden people, I'd be keeping a list, honey, because it was way too many people ready to jump." Wait! we thought it was only those ee-vil Republicans, like Richard Nixon, who kept enemies lists! Like many others, Sanders-Townsend repeatedly used the word "panic" to describe Democrats calling on Biden to step aside.  "Panic" suggests an irrationally fearful reaction to an event.  But with post-debate reactions like these, showing swing voters flooding to Trump, and Trump leading in . . . New Jersey [!], is it panic—or clear-eyed realism—on the part of Dems calling on Biden to exit ASAP? The show later brought on Democrat Congressman Robert Garcia of California to proclaim his continued support for Biden. Easy for him to say! He's running in a Dem district that he and Newsom carried by a margin of over 35% last time around.  But imagine you're a Dem in a swing district: do you really want to carry the Biden millstone around your neck to the polls in November? Most Republicans and conservatives reacted with glee to Biden's disastrous debate. But they need to be careful what they wish for.  A damaged Biden remaining on the ballot could be ideal for them. But what if he is forced off, and replaced by a more viable candidate? Trump clearly understands this. As this article "Trump Campaign Hopes Biden Stays in the Race," reports, Trump is building up Biden as the Dems' strongest candidate, and is knocking down alternatives like Newsom.  Note: Steele is a frequent guest on Morning Joe, where Joe Scarborough has been one of Biden's most abject media boosters, frequently bragging about his close relationship with him. But as we noted, after Biden's meltdown in Atlanta, Scarborough wasted no time, calling on Biden to quit the race the very next morning. Next time he's on the show, will Steele call Scarborough "ignorant" to his face, and accuse him of "running his mouth," as Steele said of those calling on Biden to quit? Here's the transcript. MSNBC The Weekend 6/29/24 8:03 am EDT MICHAEL STEELE:  The New York Times and other editorial headlines are screaming for the president to bow out of the race. I think that's a little bit ignorant at this point. Because the political realities will not dictate that scenario. And if it did, it's not going to be a good one for the Democrats. . . .  SYMONE SANDERS-TOWNSEND: To Michael's point about how the Democrats panic. I do think it is worth noting that what we saw were elected officials, party individuals, you know, strategists, not people that work for the president, but people outside the apparatus. And the elected officials are on the ballot this cycle. And so I think their panic is a little, and I know we have Congressman Garcia that's coming up later. But I think that their panic is related to what this means for the ballot. Because you've got Senate candidates and congressional candidates running five, 10 points ahead of the president in their states, and they wanted to see him talk more about the future. Now, I think that rally in North Carolina hit that mark. And if that is the Joe Biden folks see going forward, I think that the panic will subside. But if I was the Biden people, I'd be keeping a list, honey. Because it was IIway too many people ready, ready to jump. Ready to [inaudible.] STEELE: I mean, just instantly running their mouths. There wasn't even, let's take a pause or a beat and figure out what's going on.

Oregon woman, 24, killed in freak boating accident, family blames 'reckless' driver for her death: 'No simple accident'

A young Oregon woman died after a crazy freak accident while boating, according to officials. The odd news emerged just before 8 p.m. on June 22 that a young woman had been severely injured in a boating accident. Kaileigh Seidel – who was riding on an inflatable device towed by boat – reportedly begged the driver of the boat to slow down. The boat driver allegedly continued to drive the vessel in a zig-zagging motion despite her requests to be more careful.During the boating adventure, there was reportedly a tubing accident near the Hawthorne Bridge on the Willamette River in Oregon. The victim was allegedly flung into another boat, according to witnesses. "The driver who was driving very fast and recklessly, he just drove her into another boat. She hit the boat, and she died immediately, to my knowledge," said Aliyah Seidel – Kaileigh’s younger sister. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office informed Fox News that a 911 caller "reported that they had witnessed a woman getting struck by another boat." The sheriff's office stated, "The woman was transported to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead after she arrived."Seidel was rushed to the local hospital after being pulled from the water, but the family told KGW that she most likely died at the scene."She was so innocent and taken so violently because of someone else’s decision to be reckless. We definitely feel her not being here. It’s a hole in all of our hearts, it’s so quiet," Aliyah Seidel –Kaileigh's sister – told FOX 12'Kaileigh's aunt, Rachelle Hunsperger, said, "That just seems so unlike her. She was always like, ‘Let’s go, let’s have fun.’ If she was telling somebody to slow down then she was probably scared. This was no simple accident. I feel that there is somebody definitely at fault and hopefully that comes out."Aliyah added, "She had a beautiful smile, and she just touched so many lives."A GoFundMe fundraising campaign had raised over $45,000 by Sunday morning. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol unit is currently investigating Kaileigh's sudden death.Like Blaze News? Biden says his debate performance helped push undecided voters to his side during New Jersey fundraiser

President Joe Biden has reportedly concluded that his lackluster performance on the debate stage against former President Donald Trump earlier this week converted more undecided voters to his side.Fox News Digital reported that the president made the bewildering claim while standing in front of donors during a fundraiser on Saturday at New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy's home. While he conceded that his performance could have been much better, he insisted that the polling was still on his side.'That's what I've seen in terms of support of Joe Biden, because for us, Joe Biden has always had our back, and we're going to have his.'"I didn't have a great night, but I'm going to be fighting harder," Biden told those at the party. "Research during the debate shows us converting more undecided voters than Trump did, in large part because of his conduct on Jan. 6. People remember the bad things during his presidency."Blaze News previously reported that the New York Times editorial board even suggested that the president would do well to step down and let someone else take the reins this election season. "The president appeared on Thursday night as the shadow of a great public servant. He struggled to explain what he would accomplish in a second term. He struggled to respond to Mr. Trump's provocations. He struggled to hold Mr. Trump accountable for his lies, his failures and his chilling plans. More than once, he struggled to make it to the end of a sentence," the editorial board said.Despite this criticism of the president, the board reiterated that they would still side with Biden over Trump in the end. "If the race comes down to a choice between Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden, the sitting president would be this board's unequivocal pick. That is how much of a danger Mr. Trump poses. But given that very danger, the stakes for the country and the uneven abilities of Mr. Biden, the United States needs a stronger opponent to the presumptive Republican nominee. To make a call for a new Democratic nominee this late in a campaign is a decision not taken lightly, but it reflects the scale and seriousness of Mr. Trump's challenge to the values and institutions of this country and the inadequacy of Mr. Biden to confront him," the piece continued."The clearest path for Democrats to defeat a candidate defined by his lies is to deal truthfully with the American public: acknowledge that Mr. Biden can't continue his race, and create a process to select someone more capable to stand in his place to defeat Mr. Trump in November," the editorial board wrote. "It is the best chance to protect the soul of the nation — the cause that drew Mr. Biden to run for the presidency in 2019 — from the malign warping of Mr. Trump. And it is the best service that Mr. Biden can provide to a country that he has nobly served for so long."Comedian Bill Maher recently stated that "Trump told lie after lie. He never would have gotten away with that if Joe Biden was there," adding that, "You know Joe, he famously loves trains but apparently not of thought."Maher has broken ranks with Democrats on several issues, including the insistence that Biden is fit for another four years in the White House. “I don’t want to say he s*** the bed, but his new Secret Service name is Amber Heard,’ Maher jokingly said, appearing to make a reference to Johnny Depp's claim that his then-wife Heard had defecated on their bed during an argument in 2016.However, it appears that most of the backlash against Biden has come from outside his inner circle. Democrats in Congress and across the country appear to remain supportive of the president despite concerns over his ability to govern the country for another term. Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison told MSNBC host Al Sharpton that most of the "hand-wringing" is stemming from the media."What I have seen is that galvanization, particularly in the Black community," Harrison said. "I'm a Black man. I've seen the galvanization of support for Joe Biden because, you know, in the Black community, in your family, you can say all that you want to say about a member of your family, but don't let somebody else.""That's what I've seen in terms of support of Joe Biden, because for us, Joe Biden has always had our back, and we're going to have his," he added.Like Blaze News? Pax Dei is an ambitious, gorgeous MMO that isn’t worth playing yet

The newly released Pax Dei is an undeniably ambitious medieval MMO developed by Mainframe Industries, a team including veterans from Blizzard, Ubisoft, and Remedy. With this pedigree, I'd expected Pax Dei's early access launch to sit proudly among the year's top new MMOs, but the reality is a little messier than that. Satisfactory is about to go up in price, but you can grab it cheap now

I’m a big fan of city-building and sandbox games, but ones that lean in on automation always end up feeling the most rewarding to me. The sense of satisfaction that comes from setting and forgetting your base in the likes of Factorio, Astroneer, Dyson Sphere Program, and The Planet Crafter is tough to match - but the one that best captures that sensation for me is Satisfactory. As it plans for its 1.0 launch in 2024, developer Coffee Stain announces that the price is going up ahead of the full release, but you can snag it cheap right now. Ready or Not’s realistic SWAT simulation is ruined by FPS cliches

Void Interactive's Ready or Not casts you as a SWAT team leader tasked with handling horrific combat and hostage scenarios rarely represented in action games. In one level you must storm an apartment complex where a videogame livestreamer has killed his mother and taken his younger brother hostage while still on stream. In another you must clear out a methamphetamine den whose residents act erratically, forcing you to assess who is and isn't an actual threat in real-time. Deeper within you'll find an incapacitated child on a bed suffering from spasms. A spiritual successor of sorts to the SWAT series, Ready or Not differentiates itself through its grim commitment to the simulation of the extreme, and six months after its 1.0 launch, it's as uncomfortable as ever.
