Google will address Android’s Find My Device network issues ‘over the coming weeks’

Google is addressing issues with its Find My Device network to help it actually find devices. | Image: Google Google launched its upgraded Find My Device network in April, giving Android users the equivalent of Apple’s Find My network for locating trackers and offline devices. But some recent reviews have raised concerns over its ability to quickly and reliably find devices and trackers. Google says that it’s aware of the issue and plans to address it “in the coming weeks.” In a statement provided to Mishaal Rahman, a senior contributor to sites like Android Authority and Android Police, which they shared on X, Google acknowledged the concerns over its Find My Device network. “We are actively working to roll out enhancements to how the Find My Device network operates that will improve the speed and ability of locating lost items over the coming... Apple expands Self Service Repair program to 32 European countries

Apple Self Service Repair program, which helps users repair Apple products on their own thanks to access to manuals and genuine Apple parts, is expanding its Diagnostics feature to 32 European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The Apple Diagnostics program launched in the US in December 2023. It gives users the same ability as Apple Authorized Service Providers and Independent Repair Providers to test products for optimal parts functionality and performance. It also helps identify which parts need repair. With this expansion, Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair supports iPhone, Mac, and Studio Display models in 33 countries and 24 languages. Apple says Diagnostics is part of the company’s effort to “extend the lifespan of Apple products.” While Cupertino wants to offer customers the ability to repair their devices, the company thinks that building “long-lasting is their top priority.” This is why “the best type of repair for customers and the planet is one that is never needed,” the company explains. Customers can access Apple Diagnostics to better understand whether their product needs repair. They can begin the session on a second product and check the status and performance of the device that may need repair. After beginning the session and following the onscreen prompts, customers will know whether their products need repair and which parts need to be replaced.  Apple Self Service Repair program launched in April 2022 and gives anyone with relevant experience repairing electronic devices access to the manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools used at Apple Store locations and Authorized Service Providers. Apple says Self Service Repair supports 42 Apple products, including MacBook Air models powered by M3. In 2025, Canada will become the 34th country in which Apple offers Self Service Repair. Archaeologists Discover a 2,000-year-old Roman Military Sandal with Nails for Traction

Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a 2,000-year-old Roman sandal near an ancient military fort in Oberstimm, Bavaria in Germany. The discovery was made while conducting excavation work at a civilian settlement on the outskirts of the Roman fort. According to the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation (BLfD), the settlement was occupied sometime between 60 and 130 AD. The sandal or caliga, was identified using X-ray imaging, where it was determined that it was worn by a Roman soldier and fitted with iron nails on the bottom for traction. This type of footwear was essential for soldiers traversing rough terrains, much like modern cleats. Caesars Loved Tweezers! Plucking Romans Were Obsessed With Hair Removal Roman Armor, the Backbone of the Ferocious Roman Warrior In a statement, a consultant at the BLfD, Amira Adaileh, explained the significance of such a find: “So-called caligae were mainly worn by Roman soldiers during the Roman Empire. The discovery illustrates that the practices, lifestyles, and even the clothing that the Romans brought to Bavaria were adopted by the local people.” Read moreSection: ArtifactsAncient TechnologyNewsHistory & ArchaeologyRead Later
