‘THANKS, BUT’: Jorge Ramos WHINES About Insufficiency of Biden's Latest Amnesty

In his most recent opinion column, Univision anchor and Special Advisor to the CEO Jorge Ramos complains about the most recent version of immigration amnesty enacted via administrative rule by President Joe Biden. In Ramos’ view, it simply isn’t enough. Let this serve as your periodic reminder that Ramos is the only network newscast anchor with an opinion column. The title to this most recent one seems to have geographical variants: In Mexico, for Remodeling, it is simply titled “Thanks, but…”. For Miami’s The New Herald, its title can translate as “Romancing the Hispanic Vote”. It isn’t clear why the difference in titling, but there you go. Ramos lays it out very clearly: it’s not enough, and what took Biden so long? During his first presidential campaign in 2008, candidate Obama—in addition to telling Hispanics that “yes we can”—promised to send an immigration reform proposal to Congress during his first year in the White House.  And he did not do it, despite having a supermajority in both houses of Congress. Obama's unfulfilled promise has exacted a great price and has left millions of Hispanic families very vulnerable.  Had Obama fulfilled his promise, those immigrants would not be at risk of being deported and separated from their children.  For all of the above, what Biden has just done helps a lot. It is appreciated but it is not enough. The vast majority of undocumented immigrants will not have any benefits. And there is always the question as to why the president did not do it sooner and waited until there were less than five months until the November 5th elections.  Ramos’ advocacy for expanded immigration to the point of an open border is a matter of record, his cause celébre at Univision. The Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis has not given him much to cheer about lately, inasmuch as it has triggered greater overall awareness of the need to secure the border.  Ramos pushed for a number of amnesties during the Biden administration, including via budget reconciliation. In fact, Ramos was the first anchor to lend airtime and oxygen to that ill-fated effort. Ramos, in a clear demonstration of his inability to read the room, further suggests that the way to win more Hispanic votes is via additional amnesties. And he closes out the column by, again, whining about the latest rule change not being enough. In this electoral time when everyone wants to win over the Hispanic vote—these are times of promise—it is necessary to push for greater protections for Dreamers and for the millions who live in fear and in the shadows.  Ultimately, Biden only managed to help one-twentieth of the immigrants he set out to legalize on his first day as president. Thanks but…  One last note: the “Thanks, but” theme of his original Mexican title proves, once again, that Ramos is only really interested in standing up to Republicans. Whereas Ramos bit his tongue with this latest column, he didn’t when writing a similar column whining about the insufficiency of President George W. Bush’s immigration proposals nearly 20 years ago. That column was titled, “Thanks, Bush, But It’s Not Enough”.  Slight (D)ifference. Click “Expand” to view translated text of Jorge Ramos’ column titled “Romancing the Hispanic Vote”, as published in El Nuevo Herald on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024: What President Joe Biden just did changed the lives of half a million people. It's no small thing.  Undocumented immigrants who have been living in the United States for more than 10 years, without committing any crime and who are married to American citizens, will be able to legalize their immigration status.   It is, without a doubt, the best news that immigrants in the United States have received in 12 years, since President Barack Obama granted temporary residence and work permits to more than 800,000 Dreamers. It was unfinished business.  When Biden took office as president, the first thing he did was send to Congress a legalization proposal for more than 10 million undocumented immigrants. It was just a symbolic gesture.  We all knew that there were not the necessary votes in Congress for his proposal to become law. But Biden wanted to do it to differentiate himself from what Obama did not do. Without a doubt, this measure will help Biden with Latino voters and marks an enormous difference with former President Donald Trump. “Biden's actions will promote more crossings of undocumented immigrants at the border,” the Republican presidential candidate's campaign said. “Biden’s executive order will hurt Americans who are looking for work.”  The contrasts are clear: Biden legalizes half a million undocumented immigrants, while Trump threatens to carry out “the largest deportation campaign” if he returns to the White House. Whoever wins, we already know what to expect.  However, Trump and Biden share the same obsession with what is happening at the border. In that regard, the two are equal. They are terrified to realize that they have lost control of the border with Mexico and that the flow of millions from Central and South America has overwhelmed them. Neither Trump nor Biden have been able to stop the passage of undocumented immigrants... Nor will they be able to.  Trump tried to close the border twice: first, during the pandemic, and then when he imposed the “Stay in Mexico” program on his neighbor. In practice, this expelled millions of migrants to Mexico who did not want to go to the United States. And Biden was not far behind either. Two weeks ago he announced that he would temporarily close the border to asylum seekers if, on average, more than 2,500 migrants crossed per day.  While Trump's profile is clearly against undocumented immigrants, Biden's is mixed and more difficult to read.  On the one hand, it proposes closing the border to people who are fleeing violence and abuses of authority in Latin America and, on the other, it protects half a million people who have already been living in the United States for more than a decade. Despite the differences between Biden and Trump, the United States is experiencing an anti-immigrant moment. In both parties there is a clear resistance to processing and accepting all newcomers. The narrative between Democrats and Republicans often sounds the same: the United States, they say, cannot take in all the immigrants who want to come from the rest of the world.  And yet, the American economy has perfectly absorbed the millions who have walked across the border in recent years. Unemployment is just four percent and 272,000 new jobs were created last month. What crisis?  In this electoral time when everyone wants to win over the Hispanic vote—these are times of promise—it is necessary to push for greater protections for Dreamers and for the millions who live in fear and in the shadows.  Ultimately, Biden only managed to help one-twentieth of the immigrants he set out to legalize on his first day as president. Thanks but…

Will Biden’s Pandering Fool Black Voters Again?

Will Biden’s Pandering Fool Black Voters Again?

Despite a growing number of national and swing state polls that show Black voters shifting their support from President Biden and toward former President Trump, most Democrats and political pundits refuse to take the data seriously. This pattern of denial has persisted even after a top Biden pollster admitted that the campaign needs to do better with these voters. Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), for example, dismissed the inconvenient statistics by arguing that there was something wrong with their surveys. There are, however, some people inside the Biden campaign who take them seriously enough to send him out on another of his quadrennial pandering tours. He will need to convince a lot of very skeptical voters of all races and creeds, that he can really handle the job. It isn’t clear that it will work this time, however. As Blexit activist Madeline Brame recently said during an interview with Jesse Watters at Fox News about a recent Biden speech, “It’s so insulting and so racist for every other word that comes out of his mouth, black this, black that, black this, black that. Like the only reason why we have made these so-called accomplishments is because of the color of our skin … It’s not gonna fly.” And Brame’s attitude is by no means unique. According to CNN’s Harry Enten, Biden’s Black support has plummeted from 86 to 70 percent since 2020 while Trump’s has doubled during the same time period. South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (R) recently explained in The Hill why Black voters are rejecting Biden: Democrats just keep on pandering. It is not lost on Black folks that only within the last few weeks—when poll after poll shows Biden trailing—that Biden has finally decided to show up in the Black community. Are we only important when you need us? Every day, there is another headline about Biden and the Democrats rethinking, relaunching or rebranding their Black voter outreach strategy. In reality, they are retreading one failed policy after another. Black voters see through it all. And that is why a great Black voter realignment is well underway. One reason this seems implausible to so many Americans involves the decades-long Democrat effort to shove its well-documented history of racism down the proverbial memory hole. But it should be recalled that, after the Fifteenth Amendment was ratified in 1870, Black voters cast their ballots almost exclusively for Republicans. Nor did the advent of the New Deal completely break this bond. During the 1930’s, per Pew Research, “Black adults were just as likely to support the Republican Party as the Democratic Party.” Moreover, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower won 36 percent of the Black vote in 1956. And, even as late as 1960, Richard Nixon won 32 percent of the Black vote in his race against John F. Kennedy. The Democrats believe they have a permanent lock on the Black vote, having claimed for decades that they are the party of civil rights. Never mind that, as Thomas Sowell has so frequently pointed out, “A higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.” No one “educated” in our public schools and DEI-infected colleges has ever been exposed to these easily-verifiable facts. Even if these landmark bills could indeed be attributed to the Democrats, they were passed 60 years ago and many young Black voters are understandably asking, “What have you done for me lately?” This is particularly true among Black voters under 50 according to Enten: Look at this: Joe Biden was up by 80 points among this group back at this point in 2020. Look at where that margin has careened down towards: It’s now just—get this—37 points. That lead has dropped by more than half … I’m like speechless because you always look at history and you go, “Okay, this is a historic moment.” If this polling is anywhere near correct, we are looking at a historic moment right now where black voters under the age of 50, which have historically been such a big part of the Democratic coalition, are leaving in droves. The Democrats have for decades depended on at least 90 percent of Black voters to turn out and vote for their candidates. Biden is probably more dependent on their votes than most Democrats, yet their enthusiasm for him is decidedly tepid. This was the reason Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in 2016. According to Pew Research, “The 7-percentage-point decline from the previous presidential election is the largest on record for blacks.” And Biden’s decline among these voters is on track to dwarf those deadly numbers. Can Biden turn it around? Even if he manages to remain upright and at least semi-coherent during the June 27 debate, he will need to do more than call Trump a “convicted criminal” and a “dictator.” He will need to convince a lot of very skeptical voters of all races and creeds, that he can really handle the job. According to a February ABC News/Ipsos poll, “86% of Americans think Biden, 81, is too old to serve another term as president.” This is consistent with the findings of numerous polls and he’s not getting any younger. His opponent is no spring chicken either, but Trump has all his marbles and his record was obviously better than Biden’s, particularly for Black voters. All they must do, then, is apply the Reagan Principle: “Are you better off than you were four years ago? Biden’s pandering won’t fool them again. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Once upon a time in Hollywood, the entertainment industry was a magic kingdom. Its wizards gave the people what they wanted — tough, funny, or sensitive heroes, beautiful damsels or dames, and normal, intelligent folk attracted to one another for who they were, not what race, gender, or sexuality they brandished. Whether they dwelt in the savage past, the complex present, or the fantastic future, the characters always behaved believably enough to follow. I announced my intent to vote for Trump, and the impossible — or so I thought — happened after he won. The rules were simple. Good men fought bad men and defended women from overpowering physical abuse, while less formidable men either amused girls or empathized with them. The women appreciated these virtues and embraced the men. A vast audience of adults and children understood this normalcy enough to reward the business for a century. Then suddenly in the new one, masculinity, femininity, beauty, comedy, and heterosexual romance practically vanished from the screen. Those who exhibited such traits were displaced by types — minority-obsessed males and ridiculously masculine feminist women on both sides of the camera. In a wink, the once magic kingdom became a hideous barren wasteland. Ground Zero for this fast mutation was the major studio built on traditional values and long beloved for it — Walt Disney. A scandalous new revelation — too obvious to be explosive — by muckracker James O’Keefe publicly exposed the studio’s antipathy to straight white men. O’Keefe employs a classic information-gathering subterfuge that old-time movie executives would have suspected — the hot date. Which is pretty girls for the straight guys and handsome devils for the queer eye. It works because the woke targets can’t conceive of a non-feminist attractive woman or a conservative gay man — even when they’re not homosexual — so they blab to their dates like drunken sailors. Which is precisely what Disney’s Vice-President of Business Affairs did to O’Keefe’s undercover girl reporter. The executive gushed about his company’s corporate ban on white men. O’Keefe posted his revelation on X. “Nobody else is going to tell you this, but they’re not considering any white males for the job,” says Michael Giordino, a Vice President of Business affairs, “there’s no way we’re hiring a white male.” Giordano reveals Disney uses “code words and buzzwords” to avoid legal action and even mentions a candidate being rejected for not looking “black enough.” The blowback, both litigious and humorous, came quickly, starting with a tweet by Utah Republican Senator and constitutional scholar Mike Lee. “Disney’s lawyers will be busy. Very busy. Because this Disney exec admitted to hiring (and not hiring) on the basis of race. As it turns out, that’s against the law. In fact, it has been for the last 60 years.” Unsurprisingly, former Trump advisor Stephen Miller announced his America First Legal team intends to sue Disney for “discriminatory hiring practices” against white men. Right on cue, The Babylon Bee mocked the ultimate irony of Disney’s policy. It perverts the family-uplifting vision of the company’s legendary founder. “Walt Disney Posthumously Fired By Walt Disney Company For Being White Male,” blared the Bee headline. However, the woke disease permeates not only Disney, but all of Hollywood, and has for the past 20 years. It warps the mind of Tinseltown denizens into hating more than half the country, the working majority, and supporting the socialist elite at the expense of their own craft. Two weeks ago, former screen charmers George Clooney and Julia Roberts held a fundraiser for vegetating leftwing zombie Joe Biden that netted almost $30 million. It didn’t matter to the pair that the little people all across America, unlike the two of them, have to struggle to afford food and fuel. Or that Democrat-run California is a dysfunctional state experiencing mass flight by the productive class and the influx of welfare-dependent illegal aliens. Or that their theoretical environ, Democrat-run Los Angeles, is now a crime-ridden homeless-defecated socialist hellhole. Or that the man they feted is to blame for much of these disasters. I personally witnessed this rapid social degeneration as a Hollywood screenwriter at the turn of the century. I befriended a great group of Ithaca University film major graduates that, like me, hoped to conquer the industry. They had a simple plan to do it, reflecting the famous motto from my favorite book, “All for one and one for all.” Though each group member had a different talent — writing, directing, editing, creating special effects — whoever broke through first would pull up a mate or two. Since I was in the trenches with them, we forged a real bond. Initially, my conservative politics was a minor issue amid the mostly liberal clan. We celebrated each other’s successes. We partied hard when I got a first film deal (Electra),  Joe was hired by a huge kids animation studio, Sally joined a prestigious special-effects crew, Don became editor of a popular TV sitcom (not their real names), and so forth. Then came 2015, and Trump Derangement Syndrome. I announced my intent to vote for Trump, and the impossible — or so I thought — happened after he won. I got unfriended by almost everyone in the group, except Sally. By which I mean phone calls unreturned and even social media contact blocked. I realize people who can do this to a friend aren’t really friends but cultists. And that’s what Hollywoke is now, a giant Jonestown, committing ritualistic suicide. My ex-friends contributed to the madness, only minus the clout of George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and comrades. I’d love to know how they’re doing now in the quagmire they helped create. I hear a couple of them are struggling for work. And I know one thing — Disney won’t be hiring them anytime soon. The magic is gone.
