Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is demanding answers from the Biden administration after authorities arrested eight illegal immigrants with suspected terrorist ties to ISIS. Blackburn sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday wanting answers about eight Tajikistani nationals with suspected ties to ISIS. Some of the immigrants were allowed to enter the U.S. after being processed by Border Patrol or enrolling on the CBP One app. “These individuals crossed our southern border illegally and were released into the United States, but—even more troubling—these suspected terrorists allegedly passed through screening by Customs and Border Protection with clean criminal background checks. Despite being ‘fully vetted’ by border officials, it has been revealed that these individuals have ties to ISIS. Given these disturbing revelations, Americans are rightly concerned about threats to our homeland,” Blackburn wrote. “[S]ince President Biden took office, CBP has encountered 362 migrants on the terrorist watchlist, compared to just 11 under the Trump administration. Equally as concerning, we will never know how many of the nearly 1.6 million known ‘gotaways’ who evaded CBP detection during the first two years of the Biden administration were affiliated with terrorist groups,” she continued. Blackburn wrote out a list of questions for the Department of Homeland Security to answer to give Americans a better understanding of the seriousness of the situation at the border. The GOP senator asked for the names of the Tajikistani nationals, their alleged ties to terrorism, whether or not they were wiretapped discussing bombs, and other information. “The American people deserve to feel safe from terrorist threats within our country, but it is clear that this administration’s policies have made all of our communities less safe. At the very least, Americans deserve to know the full extent of the threat posed by these eight suspected terrorists who managed to gain entry into our country,” Blackburn said. Putin’s North Korea trip marks his first visit to the Hermit Kingdom in 24 years, and the Russian president was greeted with fanfare and crowds of North Koreans chanting his name, NBC News reported. Following his meeting with Kim, Putin said the leaders signed “a truly breakthrough document” that boosts security, trade, and humanitarian agreements. Kim called the agreement the “strongest ever treaty” between the two countries. The Russian president said U.S. allies Japan and South Korea were “hostile to North Korea” and labeled U.S. policy toward Kim as “confrontational,” according to CNN. Biden administration officials have expressed concern that increased ties between Russia and North Korea will help boost Kim’s nuclear capabilities and help supply Putin’s forces with ammunition as it continues its assault on Ukraine. Beavers are one of those animals that people either love or don’t. They can be somewhat destructive in urban areas but are integral to rural ecosystems. Holley Muraco, PhD is a marine mammal scientist. She began working with orphaned beavers in 2020. Tulip is one of the beavers Holley is currently raising. She has a taste for bananas and throws a beaver temper tantrum when she doesn’t get enough! Orphaned beavers are time-consuming and difficult to raise. They require special habitats, diets, and at least two years of care before release. Although Holley has an affinity for beavers, they are considered a nuisance animal in Mississippi. Finding a suitable location for release is problematic because, as a nuisance species, hunting them anytime is legal. Holley’s main goal is to educate people about this misunderstood animal and promote coexistence. In the meantime, we are totally in love with Tulip’s love of bananas and the little beaver’s adorable tantrums. But as soon as that last bite goes in her mouth, her tone changes to frustration and despair. The tiny grunts and groans almost sound like words as she fusses about “starving” and not receiving an adequate supply of bananas. The other beavers in Holley’s care also receive occasional banana treats. While Petunia and Stormy enjoy the treats, Tulip absolutely LOVES bananas.
