Stevie Nicks says there is no Fleetwood Mac without Christine

Although Fleetwood Mac was formed by Mick Fleetwood and John McVie in 1967, the most commercially successful line-up was formed in 1975 when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band. Besides them, was also part of the group since 1970, the keyboardist and singer Christine McVie. After disagreements, Buckingham left the group in 2018 but they continued together without him. But now, the singer Stevie Nicks said that Fleetwood Mac can't reunite anymore because they can't do it without Christine McVie, who passed away back in 2022 at the age of 79, a victim of a stroke. Stevie Nicks says there is no Fleetwood Mac without Christine “Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work “Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health problems. It’s not for me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It’s so demanding,” Stevie Nicks told Mojo magazine. Although Nicks says that a reunion wouldn't work with Christine, she wasn't part of the band from 1998 to 2014. Since 2018, Fleetwood Mac have two additional touring members, which are the guitarists Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Crowded House). Meanwhile, Nicks continues to tour on her own and has many scheduled tour dates for 2024. Besides songs from her solo career, she is also performing Fleetwood Mac tracks live. Next Stevie Nicks tour dates June 18 - Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids, MI 21 - Soldier Field - Chicago, IL July 3 - 3Arena - Dublin 6 - OVO Hydro - Glasgow, UK 9 - Co-op Live - Manchester, UK 12 - Hyde Park - London, UK 16 - Sportpaleis Antwerpen - Merksem (Antwerpen) 19 - Ziggo Dome - Amsterdam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL1RD4Uax7s&pp=ygURc3RldmllIG5pY2tzIDIwMjQ%3DThe post Stevie Nicks says there is no Fleetwood Mac without Christine appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Rick Wakeman explains why David Bowie was a genius

The keyboardist and pianist Rick Wakeman was born in Perivale, Middlesex, England back in 1949 and started his musical career in 1969. He not only was part of incredible bands like Yes, but also had the chance to work as session musician with many legendary artists. He was part of the recording of famous tracks by Black Sabbath, Elton John, Marc Bolan, Cat Stevens, Lou Reed and David Bowie. Wakeman recalled in an interview with Classic Rock his time with Bowie and explained why he believes the late artist was a genius. Rick Wakeman explains why David Bowie was a genius “The man was an absolute genius. There’s no other word for it. I learned more from David Bowie in the studio than from anybody else that I’ve worked with, ever. The thing about David was that he knew his own mind. He liked to have people around him who he felt had something to offer, people who he thought would understand what he wanted and help deliver it, and more." "(Bowie) had little or no respect for the attempted input of record companies and A&R men. He could not understand why these people, who didn’t know a hatchet from a crotchet, would try and come in and dictate to him what he should do. That is undoubtedly the secret of David’s success, because everything he did was on his terms," Rick Wakeman said. During the same conversation, Wakeman said that Bowie gave him "amazing freedom". For example, when they recorded the album "Hunky Dory" in 1971, the musician told him to play like he wanted. The first two songs Wakeman recorded with Bowie were the hit "Space Oddity" and "Wild Eyed Boy from Fleecloud", both in 1969. Then he worked together once again, but this time in the entire "Hunky Dory" album in 1971. In 1972, Wakeman would again play with Bowie, but only in the track "It Ain't Easy", from the album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". They would only work again in 1986, when Bowie invited him to play on the album "Absolute Beginners". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft3b1-Cm-0M&pp=ygULbGlmIG9uIG1hcnM%3DThe post Rick Wakeman explains why David Bowie was a genius appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Keith Moon once bought a cemetery for John Entwistle as a birthday present

The late legendary The Who drummer Keith Moon was also known as "Moon the Loon" because he really did many crazy things not only partying with the band on tour, but also in his relationship with other people. There are countless crazy stories about him which were told by friends and bandmates over the decades. But certainly, one of the craziest ones was told by The former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman. He affirmed that Moon once bought a cemetery as a birthday present for his bandmate, the bassist John Entwistle. Keith Moon once bought a cemetery for John Entwistle as a birthday present Bill Wyman was the Stones' bassist from 1962 until 1993 when he decided to retire from the band but during those 31 years with the band, he made a lot of friends, including Keith Moon. In an interview with Classic Rock in 2022, he recalled some stories involving The Who's drummer. One of them was about him buying a cemetery in the West Country. "I used to stay at Moonie’s house a lot. Keith was a wonderful guy but, God he did overindulge. The doctor would come round and give him so much bloody stuff, then three days later Keith would’ve taken it all." "There’d be Valium 10s, sleeping pills, wake-up pills and speeding pills, and he would just down them all the time. And there’d be champagne in the mornings, with brandy. I used to watch him in disbelief." He continued: "Once I was making a cup of tea in the morning and his lovely Swedish girlfriend [Annette Walter-Lax] came down – I’d heard them fighting upstairs – and she had scratches down each side of her face, with blood. I said: 'Annette, what happened?” And she went: “Oh, nothing. Keith just threw the cat at me.'" "He’d do the maddest things. If he’d be meeting me and Ringo at Tramp, he’d arrive in a full hunting uniform. He’d have been out and hired fox-hunting gear: hat, coat, riding crop, jodhpurs. One time he bought a cemetery in the West Country as a birthday present for John Entwistle," Bill Wyman said. Keith Moon was part of The Who from 1964 until 1978, when he tragically passed away at the age of 32. He was the band's drummer on their first 8 albums, which are the most famous ones. Although he died too soon, he continues to be a huge influence for drummers worldwide. He was first replaced in The Who by the Small Faces/Faces drummer Kenney Jones. For almost two decades already, The Who's drummer is Zak Starkey, Ringo Starr's son, who met Moon when he was a kid. In fact, it was Moon who gave him his first drum kit. Like Keith Moon, John Entwistle also passed away in a tragic way. But it was 24 years after the drummer, in 2002, at the age of 57. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNbBDrceCy8&pp=ygUHdGhlIHdobw%3D%3DThe post Keith Moon once bought a cemetery for John Entwistle as a birthday present appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Forever War: Zelensky, Western Leaders Reject Putin Ceasefire Proposals at Swiss Peace Summit

Western leaders rejected Vladimir Putin’s framework for a ceasefire while backing Ukraine’s demands that Russia return all occupied territories as the basis for any potential peace agreement. The “first annual Global Peace Summit” held in the luxury Swiss resort of Burgenstock, which did not include any representatives from Moscow, concluded with the status quo essentially remaining the same, with Ukraine continuing to demand that Russia cede territory in the East and Crimea as a...

Legalizing gay marriage has caused a dramatic drop in LGBTQ suicide rates

In June 2015 The Supreme Court of the United States declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. The legalization of gay marriage granted over 1100 statutory provisions to same-sex couples, many of them granting rights and privileges previously only afforded to heterosexual couples. After the decision, President Barack Obama said the ruling will "strengthen all of our communities" by offering dignity and equal status to all same-sex couples and their families. He called it a "victory for America."However, the law didn't just benefit same-sex couples who want to get married, it also had a dramatic affect on LGBT youth. Two years after the legalization of gay marriage, the suicide attempt rate among LGBT youth declined significantly according to the Associated Press.Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for U.S. teens. LGBT teens are five times more likely to make an attempt than their straight peers. The study was conducted with over 26,000 LGBT youth participants in the 32 states where gay marriage was legalized up through the 2015 Supreme Court decision. The study found that suicide attempt rates dropped 7% among all students and 14% among gay kids after same-sex marriage was legalized in each state.Part of the drop in suicide attempts by kids who didn't publicly identify that they were gay could be because they were closeted or questioning. There was no change in states where same-sex marriage wasn't legalized. While the change in suicide attempts doesn't prove there's a direct connection, researchers believe that the law made LGBT kids feel "more hopeful for the future." They also believe the measures increased tolerance among their straight peers while reducing the stigmatization felt by gay kids.A study out of Denmark and Sweden published in 2019 found similar results among married gay couples.Same-sex marriage was made legal in 2009 in Sweden and 2012 in Denmark. The study found that couples in same-sex unions saw a 46% decline in suicide suicide, compared to 28% of those in heterosexual unions."Although suicide rates in the general populations of Denmark and Sweden have been decreasing in recent decades, the rate for those living in same-sex marriage declined at a steeper pace, which has not been noted previously," researchers noted. These studies show the power that societal recognition can have on stigmatized minority groups. When one is protected by the "law of the land" it means a lot more than what happens in a courtroom or at city hall.It shows that you are accepted by the community and protected by those in power. For to love flourish — whether it's loving oneself or sharing it with a partner — first it must first be protected. This article originally appeared on 01.24.20

Strangers rally to cry for help for 22-year-old mother given just four months to live

Being given just a few months to live is a daunting prognosis for anyone, but when you're a 22-year-old mother with a 1-year-old daughter, it's particularly tragic. Your adult life has just begun. You are the world to your young child. Your partner is suddenly looking at losing you and becoming a single parent, all in one fell swoop. Rachael Burns of Belfast, Northern Ireland, is facing that exact reality. Eight months ago, she began experiencing headaches, dizzy spells and irritation in her eyes, according to Belfast Live. At first, doctors chalked it up to dehydrated eyes and she considered them migraines, but after an emergency trip to the hospital in early June 2024, Burns was diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma brain tumour—brain cancer with a rare, aggressive mutation that is spreading down her spine.Because of its size and where it's located, doctors said there is no way to even attempt an operation on it. Consultants told her that anyone who came in with her symptoms and that diagnosis generally had 9 to 12 months to live."I’ve shown symptoms for the last eight," Burns told Belfast Live. “I was told to assume that that was the case and try to make the most of the next four months.“I left that appointment with no real hope and I didn’t know how to tell my mum and the rest of the family, I didn’t want them to get upset. It felt like everything had just been taken away from me at that point."Facing such a dire prediction, Burns began writing years' worth of birthday cards for her daughter, Raeya, who just had her first birthday. The only option appeared to be six weeks of radiotherapy, which would do little to help. But research into experimental therapies unveiled a ray of hope to buy more time with her family."We've identified a potentially life-extending treatment in Germany, under the name of ONC201," the family shared on GoFundMe, "but it comes at a significant cost. Should Rachael qualify, we need funds to pay for travel costs, accommodation and the drugs themselves."We refuse to let financial worries hinder Rachael's fight for her life or deprive her and her daughter of precious time together. Our goal is to ensure their comfort should the worst come to pass. No one should go from celebrating their child's first birthday to facing a terminal illness so swiftly."Not only did the local community of West Belfast turn out for this young family but people around the world did as well. In less than 24 hours, they'd raised £30,000 (approximately $38,000 U.S.). “I’m just totally overwhelmed by the response that we have got so far,” Rachael said. “Belfast is such a small place but you never think that people from all over would show as much kindness as they have done for me and my family. It is a scary time to be going through all of this but this has given me more hope that I can spend some more time with my family.”Burns told The Irish News that the treatment she's seeking in Germany has extended the life of people with her diagnosis by as much as 22 months. That may not sound like much time, but in the life of a small child, it's hugely significant.“My Raeya will always know just how much her mummy fought with everything in her power for even a quick glimpse of watching her grow into the beautiful, strong and kind girl I know she will be in this world," Burns said. “Situations are what you make of them and I refuse to just be another statistic.”While the future is uncertain for the Burns family, the money that's been raised gives her the best chance for a miracle. Any funds that don't go to Rachael's treatment will go into a bank account for young Raeya "to support her in life for if the time comes when she loses her mother." Find the GoFundMe here.

Nine things new parents think they need and the more practical alternatives.

Nine things new parents think they need and the more practical alternatives.

There's nothing like preparing for a new baby. The excitement and anticipation take hold and before you know what's happening, your baby registry is five pages long full of things you've probably never heard of. I've been there before, and now, four kids later, I can tell you with absolute certainty that there are tons of things you actually don't need. It's easy to get carried away when everything is so tiny and cute, especially 'cause marketing around baby stuff is bananas. The following offers some alternative items to the ones you'll likely only use a limited number of times before practicality takes over. Many of us have been there, standing in the baby aisle looking like we're smuggling an oddly shaped beach ball under our now-too-small maternity shirt contemplating between the many styles of pacifiers and different types of bottles. You'd be forgiven for spending an insane amount of money on bottles shaped like a deflated spaceship that guarantee your baby will never burp, when two weeks after they're born you find out your baby actually prefers the $0.98 ones from Walmart. Figuring out what you really need is tricky enough, so let me help you out. Hold on to your bellies or shiny new babies folks, this list might blow your mind.1. Put the Pee Pee Teepee down and back away slowly.Aside from the word "teepee" being highly inappropriate for non-Indigenous people to use, you can go ahead and take this bad boy off your baby registry. If you're not familiar with a "pee pee teepee," it's a cone-shaped item that goes on top of your little guy's business so he doesn't accidentally pee in his eyes or on the unsuspecting diaper changer. Here's the thing, baby wipes or a baby washcloth work just as well. When my boys were little I'd just throw a wipe over their baby business while I changed the diaper, and once the dirty diaper was off, it's easy to toss the used wipe in before trashing the diaper. Easy peasy and it's one less thing to put on your list. 2. Diaper Genies are unnecessary and it's easy to forget they exist.I had such high hopes for my Diaper Genie as a first-time mom. They're so cool, you shove a dirty diaper in there and twist. That's it. It locks in the odor and makes a weird-looking segmented snake of dirty diapers. Alas, when your diaper pail is in one room and you're changing a diaper on a wiggly baby in another, most times the diaper just winds up in the closest trash can. So just buy some small cheap trash cans to put in different rooms and then empty them at the end of the day. There's only so much odor a diaper genie can hold and they only take special expensive trash bags. Save your money. Get some small trash cans and those little smell good bags to toss the smelly diapers. 3. You can buy a swaddler but you don't actually need it.I know this might be a controversial statement, but honestly those swaddlers are really expensive and babies quickly outgrow them. You can do the perfect swaddle with a receiving blanket for a fraction of the price and just as much energy. You know how babies come all bundled up when the nurse brings them in from the nursery? Yeah, that's a really good swaddle that will give your snuggle bug the same coziness as an expensive swaddler. 4. You don't have to be fancy and get a Baby Brezza.Honestly, I had never heard of a Baby Brezza until I had my youngest, so I'm assuming its a newer invention. They're certainly cool and also really expensive and unnecessary. These little doodads are like baby Keurigs but for formula. They hold powdered formula and water, you press a button and it supposedly perfectly mixes up a warm bottle of sustenance. The price tag on these things are about the same as a larger much more needed baby item, like a car seat-stroller combo. There have also been some concerns raised by pediatricians due to some bottles not getting enough formula added. Take the guesswork out of it and just fill the bottles by hand. You can even put water in the bottles in advance and leave them out at room temperature and use a portable formula container to put premeasured scoops in. I know it's no Baby Brezza, but you'll be $200 richer and know exactly how much formula is going into your baby's bottle. 5. Your baby doesn't need fake grass to dry their bottles on.Don't laugh, a fake grass bottle dryer is something that actually once sat on my kitchen counter. That's about all it did because I dang sure didn't use it for more than the first week. When you're sleep deprived, you want the easiest thing available and oftentimes that's the top rack of the dishwasher or the dish rack that's already on your countertop. The things we get suckered into buying is laughable sometimes. Besides it being esthetically pleasing, you don't actually need it and a regular bottle rack, in fact, works better because there are no removable trees holding the nipples. 6. Side eye anyone that says you need embroidered burp cloths.Don't fall for it. Yes, purpose-made burp cloths can be super cute but they're literally used to catch baby puke. These things are too small to cover the area needed to prevent your back and shoulder from becoming a casualty of a little guy eating too fast. Remember those receiving blankets we talked about earlier? Yeah, they are much more absorbent and cover more of your body to spare you having to change clothes. Those flannel blankets are versatile. You can use them for swaddling, to cover a car seat or stroller, for burp cloths or even a clean area to change the baby on. There's no such thing as too many receiving blankets. I'll make it easy for you, grab a pack here. 7. Skip the bulb syringe and splurge on the NoseFrida. The hospital will give you a useless bulb syringe that only the nurses know how to work, because I swear no matter how hard you squeeze the bulb you barely get anything out. Bulb syringes even come with many newborn essential sets. I'm sure they work, but they seem to take way too much effort for the little bit of mucus they pull out. Get the NoseFrida—yes, it's a little more expensive but it's worth it, even though it seems gross. I promise the hygiene filter that goes in the tube will spare you from getting baby boogers in your mouth. You can literally use that thing well into the toddler years until your little one learns to blow their nose. Can't speak highly enough of this thing and here's a link to it here. 8. Do you really need a Pack 'n' Play that turns into a rocket ship?OK, maybe it doesn't turn into a rocket ship but some of those things are so outrageous that you might need to be a rocket scientist to put it together. Pack 'n' Plays are really convenient and a great investment for new parents, especially if you like to travel or have family out of state. You can use it so your baby can sleep in your bedroom until you're ready for the switch to sleeping away from your little one. Just try not to get distracted by all the bells and whistles and stick to the basics. A Pack 'n' Play with a bassinet is really all you need. It's much cheaper and you'll use the bassinet piece much longer than the ones that come with other parts. 9. Expensive teething jewelry is overrated.Fancy teething jewelry is cute and has become quite popular lately, but babies don't really need it. They are perfectly happy with the normal water-filled teething rings or rubber ones that can be thrown in any diaper bag. They're tried and true, plus they're designed specifically for teething. While the jewelry is marketed for teething babies, doctors have warned that they're not safe enough to use for that purpose. Besides, having a baby is expensive enough, no need to add to it when you can pick up teething rings at just about any store for a reasonable price. The idea that everything for babies has to be the most expensive top-of-the-line things is just marketing. When it comes down to it, babies need very basic things: a safe place to sleep, food, diapers and lots of love. Everything else is extra and you can be as extra as you'd like but it should never feel like it's a necessity. Your baby will love you whether you have the Baby Brezza or mix their bottles by hand, promise. This article originally appeared on 9.16.22
