The announcement comes just a couple of days before season two of the show premieres on HBO and starts streaming on Max. House of the Dragon is the first spinoff from HBO’s Game of Thrones and takes place 200 years before the events of the original show. Both are based on the works of George R.R. Martin, with Ryan Condal helming the latest series, which stars Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, among many others. “George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season,” HBO’s programming and drama series chief Francesca Orsi said in a statement. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for Season Three.” House of the Dragon has become one of HBO’s most successful series. The first season averaged 29 million views per episode and season two has already gotten a largely positive response from critics, and currently has an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes. For those looking for even more television viewing experiences in the Game of Thrones world, don’t fret. Last month, we found out that Michelle Yoeh would star in the show as a Replicant named Olwen. And today, we got news of another actor joining the call sheet. According to Variety, Hunter Schafer (Euphoria and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, pictured above) has joined the production as Yeoh’s co-star. We don’t have any news yet, however, on who her character will be. We also don’t know anything much about the plot of the series, other than it takes place in a universe where Scott’s Blade Runner and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 are canon. (And, as the titles reveal, that Blade Runner 2099 takes place 50 years after Villeneuve’s film.) Silka Luisa, whose previous credits include showrunning Shining Girls and writing on Paramount+’s Halo adaptation, is the showrunner and an executive producer on Blade Runner 2099. While we don’t have details on who Hunter will play, her recent performances promise that she will bring something inspired to the series. In addition to her Euphoria role and playing Tigris Snow in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, she is also in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness and the horror thriller Cuckoo, where she co-stars with Dan Stevens. No news yet on when the show will go into production, much less make its way to Prime Video.
