NPR Treats Hunter's Verdict as Much Less Important Than Alito, Secretly Taped

Taxpayer-funded National Public Radio didn't think Hunter Biden's three guilty felony verdicts were a big deal. NPR.org has an online listing of story order on their news programs. On Tuesday night, All Things Considered put the Hunter Biden verdicts at....number nine. Guess what was #1. “Secret audio raises new questions about Supreme Court Justice's impartiality.” This drew six minutes and 11 seconds. The Hunter Biden guilty verdicts lasted 3:52. NPR reporter Ryan Lucas recounted all the family hugs and hand-holding, but left out ANY Republican commentary. Co-host Mary Louise Kelly oozed: "A woman who describes herself as a documentarian and liberal activist secretly recorded audio of two Supreme Court justices at an exclusive gala. Lauren Windsor released the edited audio on X and shared it with Rolling Stone." You KNOW someone's seriously leftist when they're "liberal" to NPR. Naturally, media reporter David Folkenflik was brought on: FOLKENFLIK: Right now she's operating in a kind of - well, shall I say, a bit of a cowboy mode. It's almost as though she sees herself as an antidote to James O'Keefe, the conservative, really right-wing provocateur who used undercover videos. He often went after sort of ancillary figures to try to discredit larger institutions or liberal figures. In her case, she's really gone after folks who are really at the top, in this case, of the federal government and also, in some ways, the conservative establishment, if you think about these two justices. To his credit, Folkenflik suggested this was an ethical issue, that NPR wouldn’t stoop to this. He did NOT recall for his listeners that O’Keefe staffers punked NPR in 2011, leading to several resignations. But how is Windsor the "antidote"? She's the opposite, but she's doing the same apparently poisonous thing. There's definitely a dishonesty in secret recordings, especially when people pretend to be something they're not. But it's rich for NPR to pose as guardians of judicial propriety, when NPR reporter Nina Totenberg and her pal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg broke all the rules about ethics together.  Then came Wednesday's Morning Edition, which was even worse. The first two features, which lasted more than 11 minutes were on secret-mic interviews with conservative justices Alito and John Roberts. Hunter Biden was listed at...number seventeen! Lucas did less than four minutes again.  And #12 was White House PR: "Biden administration announces a plan for removing medical debt from credit reports." PS: Tuesday's PBS NewsHour also turned to NPR's Lucas for his version of events. Then White House reporter Laura Barron-Lopez lied about Joe Biden's involvement with Hunter Biden's clients.  Laura Barron-Lopez on @PBS: GOP "repeating baseless accusations against President Biden, claiming that he was involved in his son's business dealings overseas, which there has been NO EVIDENCE to support those claims...from former President Trump, as well as other Republicans." pic.twitter.com/2TnfsNIGF3 — Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) June 13, 2024 A campaign spokesperson for President Trump issued a statement, saying — quote — "This trial has been nothing more than a distraction from the real crimes of the Biden crime family. Biden's reign over the Biden family criminal empire is all coming to an end on November 5," again repeating baseless accusations against President Biden, claiming that he was involved in his son's business dealings overseas, which there has been no evidence to support those claims from President — from former President Trump, as well as other Republicans. PPS: It's amusing that once NPR's show listing went into the archives, Hunter's verdict didn't show up any more on a shortened list, but dental therapy and "One woman's summer of pleasure in Paris" did.

Haunting play 'October 7' lets Hamas terror survivors speak

I missed the show Monday night outside the Nova Music Festival Exhibition on Wall Street, where anti-Israel protesters gathered to wave Palestinian flags, light flares, and remind anyone observing the “in-depth remembrance of the brutal October 7th attack” that “IT IS RIGHT TO REBEL – ISRAEL, GO TO HELL!” Instead, I went to Hell’s Kitchen to watch Phelim McAleer’s "October 7: In Their Own Words." McAleer’s production is a verbatim play — a documentary style of theater, which in this case means the source material comes from the testimony of real-life survivors of Hamas’ 2023 attack on the Nova Music Festival and nearby kibbutzim. McAleer and his wife, Ann McElhinney, conducted the interviews. Coming Soon: OCTOBER 7 www.youtube.com This isn’t McAleer’s first dance with verbatim theater or controversy. For his play "Ferguson," McAleer used evidence and testimony presented to the grand jury in the case against Darren Wilson that ultimately cleared the police officer of charges in the shooting death of Michael Brown. While I 'knew' what was going to happen, I was not prepared for the experience. Once the action gets going — which is pretty straight away — it doesn’t let up. I thought going from debunking “Hands up — don’t shoot!” on stage to a play about the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust would dial down the controversy. But then I remembered some early responses to the October 7 massacre. In the days after it, when bodies and body parts were still being counted, I watched an activist get on the mic in Union Square to praise “the resistance” for taking out “at least several dozen hipsters.” And who can forget BLM Chicago using the iconography of the Hamas paragliders to declare (in a soon-to-be-deleted post) “I STAND WITH PALESTINE”? June 10, the night I went out to review the play, coincided with the “Citywide Day of Rage for Gaza,” where anti-Israel protesters were spotted around the city (not just outside the exhibit in downtown Manhattan) with at least one banner reading “Long Live October 7th” and chants of “LONG LIVE THE INTIFADA!” I can see why all ticket-holders had to pass through a metal detector to enter the Actors Temple Theater, where "October 7" has its run. I left my pocketknife in my car and passed through security. It was only when I took my seat and noticed some of the actors on stage dancing to techno music that I realized I’d been disarmed. It was haunting. The wise security move also worked symbolically. I was now at the Nova Music Festival, and there was nothing I could do about it. (As if a pocketknife would have helped anyway!) While I “knew” what was going to happen, I was not prepared for the experience. Once the action gets going — which is pretty straight away — it doesn’t let up. Nearly all the actors play multiple roles, which at times makes it hard to track who’s who and where we are. Intentional or not, this kind of casting lends itself to the reality of the situation: We are thrown into the chaos of the massacre(s) happening on multiple fronts, whether it be on the festival grounds, in the kibbutzim, or on the roads that connect them. McAleer does a fine job weaving together so many stories. There are powerful moments like the woman who stares down her would-be assassin and says, “He doesn’t deserve my fear.” Or another woman, forced to hide in her safe room while terrorists infest her home — she has nothing but some water and a pot to pee in, and in order to keep her sanity, she goes to museums in her mind. But I believe the verbatim genre can be too restrictive, because there are moments that ring true but sentimental. For example, while there are a number of characters who attribute their survival to “God was with me,” there are none I remember who ask, “Where was God through this hell?” Spoiler: The final line of the show, “We will dance again,” is perfect and saccharine. But considering all the bitterness in the streets surrounding the play, I’m more than fine with it. Before the show started, I was listening to a conversation in the row behind me. A Jewish woman was explaining that she has certain friends with whom she doesn’t talk about Israel. She won’t even bring up the latest news about the hostages being rescued. Just broaching the topic risks her losing friendships. And that is the biggest downside of "October 7: In Their Own Words": to attend it is a political act. I know that’s kept many people from attending. But there are only a few dates left. Take the risk.

Hamas has held American hostages for 250 days as American media sympathizes with — HAMAS?!

In 1979, Islamic fundamentalists successfully overthrew the pro-American Shah of Iran and took over 50 American diplomats hostage for 444 days. Naturally, the crisis dominated American media, which reflected poorly on Carter’s management of foreign policy. In an eerily similar parallel, Hamas has now held hostages for 250 days — some of whom are American hostages — and what does our media do? It remains Team Hamas, while Glenn Beck remains one of the sole people reminding Americans how many days their fellow citizens have been held captive. Last Saturday, the IDF managed to rescue four hostages after 245 days in captivity, and American mainstream media is framing the story around the damage done in Gaza. Never mind the fact that Hamas builds its headquarters below a Gazan hospital, stations its hostages with civilians, and kills captives prior to rescue missions. What’s more important is that the IDF’s rescue operation caused casualties in Gaza — casualties reported exclusively by Hamas and other Gazan groups, mind you. Glenn Beck and Stu Burguiere, despite their keen awareness of the media’s toxicity, have never seen something of this caliber before. “I really like the comment that I saw in the news that Israel should have given Hamas some warning that they were coming,” says Glenn sarcastically. “I thought it was unfair on D-Day that ... we didn't call [Hitler] up and say, ‘Hey, in a couple hours we're coming over; you might want to prepare.”’ To make matters more confusing, “[America] apparently provided support for the raid.” But Glenn and Stu are dubious considering Biden’s wishy-washy stance on the war and the media’s tendency to sympathize with Hamas. “Would Israel take our help for something like this?” asks Glenn. To hear the rest of the conversation, watch the clip below. This security system lets you disarm it with your doorbell

Arlo’s new security tag can disarm its security system via its video doorbell. | Image: Arlo Last year, smart security company Arlo launched a home security system with several features that rivaled the excellent Google Nest Secure (RIP) — including multifunction sensors and an all-in-one hub / keypad. It then promised an NFC security tag that would let you disarm the system with a tap. This week, it delivered on that promise with the launch of the Arlo Security Tag. The new key fob lets you arm and disarm the system with a tap on the keypad hub inside your home, similar to what was possible with the Nest Secure. But Arlo has also added a handy option to disarm the system by tapping the tag on an Arlo video doorbell before you even enter your house. The NFC-enabled tag is available now for $19.99 for a two-pack and works with... Continue reading…
