Police are investigating after someone ripped down a city-sanctioned statue of a hooded demon outside the State House in Concord, New Hampshire. The Satanic Temple’s holiday display, which depicted the pagan deity Baphomet was unveiled Saturday night but knocked down before Tuesday morning. “Santa wouldn’t do this,” Concord Deputy Police Chief John Thomas quipped. “Santa loves everybody.” State Representative Ellen Read, Democrat, approached the Satanic Temple about doing a display after seeing other holiday displays at the State House, she said. “I approached them as a person who cares about equal representation on public grounds for religions,” Read said. On Tuesday morning, Read could be seen picking up the pieces of the goat-headed figure off the ground after it was vandalized, including putting the statue’s life-size legs in her car. “The reaction seems so emotional, so knee-jerk, that the idea that a mannequin and a goat mask would create all of this animosity,” Read said. The city of Concord had approved the demonic display, saying it was permitted under the First Amendment. A Christmas tree, a nativity scene, and a Bill of Rights display were also erected. “Under the First Amendment and to avoid litigation, the City needed to choose whether to ban all holiday displays installed by other groups, or otherwise, to allow it,” the city said in a statement. “After reviewing its legal options, the City ultimately decided to continue the policy of allowing unattended displays at City Plaza during this holiday season and to allow the statue. It is anticipated that the City Council will review next year whether permits for unattended holiday displays should be allowed at City Plaza,” the city said. However, the mayor was not keen on the display. “I opposed the permit because I believe the request was made not in the interest of promoting religious equity, but in order to drive an anti-religious political agenda,” Mayor Byron Champlin said. One New Hampshire Christian advocacy group, Cornerstone, mocked the display, saying The Satanic Temple is “not Charles Manson: it’s just your liberal feminist aunt trying to trigger you by mocking your faith.” “The Satanic Temple are not Satanists. They have no religious belief in any Satan figure. They are normal, atheist feminists who use Satanic imagery as a legal tactic, to fundraise through media exposure, and because offending Christian grandmothers brings a sense of meaning to their sad lives,” the group said in a statement. The Satanic Temple has sued over abortion bans and at one point even turned on their own leader over transgender ideology.

“The View” host Sunny Hostin appeared to excuse the violent, execution-style murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, arguing that the United States was “built on violence” and claiming that the violence, at least in this case, was “justified.” Hostin joined her cohosts on Wednesday’s broadcast of the ABC midday talk show, and while they all agreed that there is room for improvement in the health insurance industry, the others at least were adamant that violence was not the best way to address the problems in the system. “The vast majority of Americans want the healthcare industry fixed. But I got to tell you, murdering someone is not the way to do it,” Whoopi Goldberg said. Joy Behar agreed, saying, “Doesn’t justify killing anybody to me anyway. She then pivoted to push back on people who said that violence was not a reflection of America, adding, “This country was built on violence. America First Legal on Wednesday launched an investigation into FEMA over guidance from an employee for relief workers in Florida to “avoid homes advertising Trump,” according to letters first shared with The Daily Wire.  The conservative legal firm filed a Freedom of Information request demanding FEMA turn over records and communications involving fired FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington, who instructed workers responding in Lake Placid, Florida to pass over homes with Trump flags or signs. America First Legal, citing reporting from The Daily Wire, also requested that Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari open up a full investigation into the allegations of relief aid being withheld for political reasons.  “For four years, the Biden-Harris Administration and its pro-censorship allies have waged war on Americans’ freedom of speech,” America First Lawyer Will Scolinos told The Daily Wire. “This latest example may be the most egregious yet — denying hurricane relief assistance due to FEMA employees’ vendetta against President Trump and the Americans brave enough to publicly support him from their homes.” Since the news broke that workers bypassed at least 20 homes in Lake Placid because of their Trump signage, similar allegations have been made against FEMA officials in both Georgia and North Carolina.  “Accordingly, we write to request that you investigate FEMA’s reported violations of the First Amendment by discriminating based on political affiliation and withholding of federal disaster aid following recent natural disasters,” AFL lawyer Scolinos wrote on Wednesday. “In particular, we request that you investigate FEMA employees directing personnel to ‘avoid homes advertising Trump.’” Scolinos wrote that the actions taken by Washington and alleged similar actions in North Carolina and Georgia violate the First Amendment.  “FEMA’s blanket refusal to provide aid to these homes, and even entire neighborhoods, based on the political speech in the yards of some but not all homes is not narrowly tailored to any compelling governmental interest,” he wrote.  CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE Scolinos added that the actions of Washington and others who deprived people with Trump signs or flags constituted an illegal conspiracy to deprive Americans of aid based on their politics.  “To ensure that federal disaster relief is being administered fairly in compliance with the law, AFL hereby requests that you exercise your statutory oversight authority and open an investigation to determine whether American citizens faced political discrimination or retaliation by FEMA in areas affected by Hurricanes Milton and Helene and elsewhere,” the letter added. “The dangers inherent in the undue politicization of FEMA’s disaster relief role should be evident.” FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has said the incident in Lake Placid was an isolated incident and said that she asked the inspector general to carry out an independent investigation. The inspector general’s office told The Daily Wire it cannot comment on any potential investigation. In the FOIA request, AFL requested for communications on Washington and all records that mention “Trump,” “Trump supporters,” “Trump signs,” or “isolated incident.” The Daily Wire has filed a similar request with FEMA over its handling of the situation. 

Republican Congressman Mike Rogers said Tuesday that he disagrees with the move to ban transgender procedures for military children in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), arguing that president-elect Donald Trump could resolve the issue upon taking office. Rogers, Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, told The Hill’s Emily Brooks that he does not think that the NDAA should include such a provision, saying that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), “Didn’t talk to me about it.” He argued that the NDAA is historically bipartisan. “My preference would have been that we just let the president, on Jan. 20, deal with these,” the Alabama Republican said, “which he’s already indicated he’s going to do.” “[Trump] is going to stop all these social, cultural issues from being embedded as policies,” he added. “So my point is, I don’t know why this is in the bill when Jan. 20, it’s a moot point.” The Daily Wire reported Saturday that Congress will ban the use of taxpayer funds for gender transition surgeries for children who get their medical care through the military’s health care program. This year’s NDAA includes language that prohibits coverage under TRICARE of transgender procedures that could “result in sterilization” of children. Johnson told The Daily Wire on Saturday that the NDAA provision is a “critical and necessary step” in the fight against “radical gender ideology.” “Taxpayer dollars should never be used to support procedures and treatments that could permanently harm and sterilize young people,” Johnson told The Daily Wire. “In this year’s NDAA, we’re taking a critical and necessary step to protect the children of American service members from radical gender ideology and experimental drugs.” He further promised: “House Republicans will continue to take action to protect America’s kids.” The provision comes amid a push for legislation banning these sorts of procedures across the country. The Supreme Court heard arguments earlier this month over Tennessee’s law that outlaws sex-change procedures for minors, and appears poised to uphold it. In the U.S. Senate, a Republican proposed legislation for a federal ban. Rogers’s remarks prompted outrage from the American Principles Project’s Terry Schilling, who tweeted Tuesday: “Sex change procedures should never be funded by taxpayers. Especially in our military. But most especially FOR CHILDREN. Cher, Dick Van Dyke and other celebrities were forced to evacuate their homes on Tuesday after a wind-swept fire engulfed portions of the Southern California community of Malibu. In a post on Facebook, the 98-year-old legendary actor said that he and his wife Arlene had safely evacuated their homes as the Franklin fire blazed through the area. “Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo [their cat] escaped as we were leaving,” the famed actor, who turns 99 on December 13, wrote. The brush fire started around 11 p.m. on Monday night and thanks to the strong Santa Ana winds, the fire grew to six square miles and was just 7% contained on Tuesday, the AP noted. However, officials noted that a change in the weather on Wednesday could help them significantly. “We’re far better off this morning than we were in the last 30-plus hours,” Malibu Mayor Doug Stewart said at a Wednesday news conference. Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Anthony C. Marrone said that more than 7,500 structures, mostly homes, were threatened, with more than ten thousand people under evacuation orders. Much of the fire has not only consumed the area with celebrities’ mansions, but also affected Pepperdine University. A spokesperson for the university, Michael Friel, said Wednesday morning, “You literally could see the flames from the top of the hill from campus.” The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
