Column: Beware When Leftist Journalists Use Founding Fathers to Attack Trump

When the elected Democrat D.A. of Manhattan and his 12 (likely Democrat) Manhattan jurors convicted Donald Trump on artificially inflated felony counts of business accounting, you could count on leftist journalists to try to make it the Most Historic Event Ever.  We’re not even sure it won’t all be reversed on appeal. But “historic” is their word of choice….when they like the result. In 1998, when Bill Clinton was impeached for lying under oath about sex with an intern named Monica Lewinsky, Geraldo Rivera was furious on the Today show: “It was a spiteful action, an action that they performed absolutely in violation of the framers' intent. It was a legislative coup d'etat.” Impeaching Trump twice was never a “coup” to NBC News. But the worst part of that spectacle was leftist activists like Geraldo trying to speak for the framers of the Constitution. He was implying it wasn’t just a revolting result, but revolting in the eyes of James Madison and the rest. The Left reveres nothing about the Founders, routinely denouncing them as a racist, sexist, capitalist patriarchy. This regrettable citation of the Founding Fathers happened again with the Trump trial, and again in this case, the American revolutionaries were placed on the side of the Democrats. George Stephanopoulos began his commentary on This Week with the second president. “In 1774, John Adams said representative government and trial by jury are the heart and lungs of liberty. Two hundred and fifty years later, the heart and lungs of liberty are facing what may be the ultimate stress test.” It’s John Adams vs. Trump. The front page of the June 3 New York Times was topped with an editorial – labeled “News Analysis” – from their White House correspondent Peter Baker. He picked Patrick Henry as the Trump opponent. “The revolutionary hero Patrick Henry knew this day would come,” Baker began. Henry “feared that eventually a criminal might occupy the presidency and use his powers to thwart anyone who sought to hold him accountable.” In Henry’s words, “Away with your president, we will have a king.” Never mind that historians pointed out Henry was inveighing against the Constitution before it was ratified. Baker channeled the Democrat line: “The notion that 34 felonies is not automatically disqualifying and a convicted criminal can be a viable candidate for commander in chief upends two and a half centuries of assumptions about American democracy.” Inside the paper, the headline over Baker’s essay was “If a Felon Becomes President, Can Anyone Limit His Power?” The text box underlined the theme again: “Revival of a long-ago fear that a U.S. leader could try to be a king.” All that followed was the argument ad infinitum that Trump’s second term would result in “unfettered abuses of authority.”   What Baker and Stephanopoulos refused to understand was that this rhetoric of a president abusing authority can also be applied to President Biden. On CNN, Scott Jennings mocked Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) on how Biden ruthlessly ignored the courts and the Congress in offering $165 billion in student-loan “forgiveness” to win younger voters.   “You're a member of Congress,” he told Auchincloss. “Does it not offend you that the president of the United States is usurping your authority?” The eventual answer was no. The Democrats and their media enablers use “History” to establish how there is a “right side,” and that is their leftist agenda. Undercutting democratic norms and co-equal branches of government is admirable when the ends justify the means. The Founding Fathers are just yellowed paper puppets in their relentless power games.

Blaze News investigates: Biden and Newsom's electric vehicle schemes are going up in smoke

The Biden administration has made the promotion of electric vehicles a goal in its plan to combat climate change, but recent developments have crippled the effort to replace gasoline-powered vehicles with those running on electricity.Despite massive subsidies and government mandates, demand for electric vehicles is plummeting after a jolt of interest. Blaze News spoke with industry insiders to uncover the reasons behind this lack of demand, which seems to persist in spite of government efforts to encourage and/or mandate the switch to electric vehicles'Electric cars are really not feasible for many, many people.'Auto industry companies can no longer ignore the lack of demand. Since the end of 2023, many companies have thrown in the towel. In April, the Ford Motor Company announced several course corrections that severely undermined the campaign to put more Americans in electric vehicles. Ford said it would significantly scale back its plans to produce electric vehicles, including the cancellation of two new electric vehicle models, an SUV and a pickup. It also decreased its effort to build up factories for EV cars and components. Despite Ford reporting an overall profit of $4.3 billion in 2023, the company suffered a massive loss of $4.7 billion from the Model e EV division, according to Yahoo Finance.EV manufacturer Rivian reported that it was losing an astonishing $43k per vehicle it sold in the last period, although the company says it believes future sales will be profitable. Even Tesla, which has been considered the dominant EV brand, has struggled to continue the increasing pace of sales of electric vehicles. In April, the company reported the first annual drop in sales since the beginning of the pandemic. On Friday, Tesla announced a recall of more than 124,000 vehicles over a seatbelt malfunction, though it said it will be repaired with an over-the-air software update. The company's stock skyrocketed in 2021 but has since plummeted to less than half of that value currently. Why are automakers turning away from electric vehicles? Experts say demand for the cars has plummeted. 'Automakers tried to lead with ideology first, and a good consumer product second, that really that just doesn't work.'In recent months, it's becoming more and more obvious that the demand for electric vehicles is not meeting the supply encouraged by the federal government through subsidies and demands on the industry. Brian Moody, the executive editor of Autotrader, spoke to Blaze Media about the state of the electric vehicle industry. "I think the issue with the electric cars is that the automakers tried to lead with ideology first, and a good consumer product second, that really that just doesn't work," he explained. He pointed out that people know they can do some of the repairs on gas-powered cars, but that is simply not the case with electric cars and is keeping many buyers away. Moody said many buyers were early tech adopters but that was a limited pool of customers. "So they want the newest, latest thing, they want the newest Apple Watch, they want the newest Air Jordans. And that's what I think has happened with a lot of the electric cars. But once you ran out of those people or they got what they wanted, now you have to start appealing to just the average person," he continued. In order to appeal to the average person, Moody says the equation is very simple. "This is going to be great for your life, this is going to save you time, this is going to save you money," he added. "And it's going to be more convenient for you. That's what people buy."Ray Huffines, the president and CEO of Huffines Auto Dealership in Texas, also told Blaze Media that there's just not enough demand from the public for electric vehicles. "Electric cars are more expensive than regular gasoline-engine vehicles. And even with the incentives, that doesn't necessarily get them to a competitive price. Also, the incentives are confusing, in many ways, and there's a lot of limits on what vehicles will qualify and on the income of the buyer," said Huffines. "The demand is not robust, it's slowing down. There are plenty of electric vehicles available but not enough customers," he added. He went on to say that the government is trying to force the sale of cars that lose money for manufacturers and don't make any money for the dealers. "So you know, the government can do this, but it's really problematic from a business standpoint of how in the world the manufacturers can make a profit," he concluded. 'A pretty big uphill battle.' California Gov. Gavin Newsom has also tried to lead the country in imposing electric vehicles on Americans by signing an executive order in 2020 to ban all sales of gasoline-powered cars by 2035. The Democrat was mocked by critics on social media for what was seen as a draconian regulatory expansion. “For too many decades, we have allowed cars to pollute the air that our children and families breathe. Californians shouldn’t have to worry if our cars are giving our kids asthma," said Newsom at the time. "Our cars shouldn’t make wildfires worse — and create more days filled with smoky air. Cars shouldn’t melt glaciers or raise sea levels threatening our cherished beaches and coastlines.”Moody and Huffines are in agreement in their assessment of the plan: It’s just not feasible."Yeah. I don't think so," said Moody, who added that even in a place like California where electric car sales were higher than the rest of the U.S., it was nowhere near the target created by Newsom. The California New Car Dealers Association has said that electric car sales had surged to comprise 21.5% of sales in the first quarter of 2023. EV sales grew by 20% in the second quarter, then dropped slightly in the third quarter, and dropped significantly by 15% from the second quarter high to the fourth quarter. "That's still a pretty big uphill battle to companies that make money selling a multitude of things," said Moody. Huffines added that EVs would only work for people who live in a house and not in very dense neighborhoods.“There's really no dependable place where you can charge your car. The cars are expensive. So, people that have a limited budget, and now with the inflation like it is and interest rates, people's budgets are very tight,” Huffines responded. “They're having to make very economical decisions about their purchases, including automobiles. So, electric cars are really not feasible for many, many people,” he concluded. Defenders of the EV industry say that the decrease in demand is just a sign of a maturing market, but unless something changes, none of the electric vehicle dreams of Biden or Newsom will come to fruition.Like Blaze News? The right response to Trump’s conviction? Press on for the republic

In today's world, everyone seems to get a trophy, which makes the trophy absolutely worthless. Unless it’s fought for, unless it’s earned and struggled for, the trophy doesn’t belong to you. The same goes for freedom. I’ve never earned the freedom we enjoy in America. I fear I spent too much of my life squandering it. And for what? Ease? Money? Just to go along to get along? A trophy that everybody gets but was never earned? I do not accept, nor do I want that trophy. I want one that means something, and that means standing up for something. Defeat is not an outcome. Defeat is a choice. We were given an opportunity on Thursday to stand for something: our republic. The weaponization of our government to snuff out Donald Trump’s campaign represents a greater attack against the foundational freedoms that forged our republic: the right to a fair and impartial trial, the right to free and fair elections, the right to defend yourselves against your accusers. Will you stand for it? Now is the time to decide, and our decision may very well determine whether our republic is heading toward victory or defeat. I will never say we are finished. I will never utter the words, “We have lost!” Because defeat is not an outcome. Defeat is a choice. It is the choice of the person who is pushed down and refuses to get back up. It is the choice of the person who backs down when pitted against seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The posture of defeat is the one who backs down when things get hard. Will you take that posture? Or will you stand for freedom and rise to the occasion that our republic demands? It always sucks before you get to the summit. The question is: As you're driving your wagon train over the Rocky Mountains, do you press on? Do you actually have an unwavering belief in our republic? Do you really even know the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, or the Constitution? Do you know why we fight? Because if you don't know, you will lose. Will enough of us call upon that unyielding spirit that has always been inside us? Will you stand for those values that we’ve been told our whole lives are self-evident? Apparently, they are not self-evident any more, according to our ruling elites. Our country forged the greatest mission statement the world has ever witnessed, that all people are "endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," where justice and freedom can be had by all. That is the summit of the mountain we now face, and it is a summit worth pressing forward to reach. We are still on the side of the mountain. We have a long way to go, and last Thursday, they tried to knock us back down. We must ask ourselves today: Do we just go back down? Is this as far as we go? Or do we just say, "Press on, America." We must press on. We must not accept defeat. If we do, we are not worthy of the freedom that is worth fighting for. Want more from Glenn Beck? Ultrakill Creator Thinks Piracy Leads To Word-Of-Mouth Promotion And Is At Worst An Equal Trade

If you're of a certain age, you'll remember that Limewire was the place to get all of your pirated materials, particularly music, and then having to fight a huge Trojan horse virus after it corrupted your system. Those were the days, right? Now, the piracy debate is still prevalent in all areas of movies, as well as video games, and whether it's a right or wrong method when faced with huge price increases.

Whistleblowers might be the best way to keep us safe from AI like ChatGPT

As much as I love using ChatGPT, a few troubling developments from the company recently have made me question my trust in OpenAI. Ilya Sutskever's departure is one of them and probably the most important. The OpenAI co-founder was seen as the main person keeping AI in check at OpenAI. But it's not just Sutskever who left the superalignment team, making us wonder who is overseeing AI safety at the company. Plenty of top engineers departed OpenAI. Then, CEO Sam Altman reorganized the team into a safety and security committee that answers to him. Add the public fight with Scarlett Johansson over GPT-4o's voice that sounded eerily similar to one of the actress's AI-related roles, and you realize that OpenAI might be breaking too many eggs for its own good. Fast-forward to this week, and we have an open letter out in the wild from a group of AI engineers that includes current and former OpenAI employees. They're asking for better oversight of AI companies. This would include a system that encourages whistleblowers to come forward when they feel something isn't right without risking backlash from the company they work for. Considering the fast pace in the AI industry, whistleblowers might be the best thing that happens to ChatGPT and other AI products, especially if companies like OpenAI don't fully understand how their AIs work. It turns out that's also what's happening with current AI chatbots. Continue reading... The post Whistleblowers might be the best way to keep us safe from AI like ChatGPT appeared first on BGR.
