Buttigieg said that EV sales are increasing every year, but didn’t address why car manufacturers were slashing production of EVs over low demand in 2024. Brennan also laughed in Buttigieg’s face when he struggled to explain why only 7-8 charging stations have been built despite the Biden administration spending $7.5 billion in 2021 to build them. US auto dealers representing every major auto brand also called on the Biden administration last year to roll back its federal regulations that will mandate two out of every three vehicles sold in the US in 2032 will be battery electric, because most consumers just aren’t interested. “We can take some solace in knowing that the voice of our customers broke through enough to convince the Biden Administration to moderate the mandate in the early years,” the letter states. “But sadly the regulation stubbornly hangs on to an EV mandate that is clearly disconnected from the realities of the marketplace and the voice of the customer.”

The judge in Alec Baldwin’s Rust case denied the motion to dismiss the indictment on Friday. 

Liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor opened up on Friday at Harvard University about how she has cried after some court decisions. The Harvard Crimson reported on Sotomayor’s candid admission, which happened during an event at which she received a medal recognizing her impact on society. “There are days that I’ve come to my office after an announcement of a case and closed my door and cried,” Sotomayor said. She added, “There have been those days. And there are likely to be more.” CNN noted that Sotomayor did not mention any particular cases that have caused her to shed tears. The justice did acknowledge how there are “moments when I’m deeply, deeply sad. And there are moments when, yes, even I feel desperation. We all do.” Sotomayor went on, “But you have to own it. You have to accept it. You have to shed the tears, and then you have to wipe them and get up and fight some more.” A justice since 2009, Sotomayor witnessed former President Donald Trump lead the charge in creating a 6-3 conservative-majority Supreme Court. In recent years, the high court has levied significant rulings opposed by Sotomayor, including one in 2022 that overturned Roe v. Wade. Some legal scholars have been pushing for Sotomayor, who is 69 and a lifelong diabetic, to step down and give President Joe Biden another nominee. The pressure campaign picked up steam after Sotomayor said in January that she was “tired” from her workload. NBC News reported last month that Senate Democrats were concerned about a scenario echoing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s sudden death. Ginsburg’s passing in September 2020 allowed Trump to nominate one more eventual justice — Amy Coney Barrett — in the final months of his presidency. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told the news outlet. “We should learn a lesson.” He added, “The old saying — graveyards are full of indispensable people, ourselves in this body included.” Biden is running for a second term, paving the way to a 2020 general election rematch against Trump in this year’s contest. White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Biden “believes that decisions to retire from the Supreme Court should be made by the justices themselves and no one else.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was confronted over the weekend about President Joe Biden’s attempt to push Americans to buy electric vehicles and his administration’s failure to turn billions of dollars in federal investment into a network of charging stations. Buttigieg faced the questions during a Sunday CBS News interview on “Face The Nation” with host Margaret Brennan when asked about former President Donald Trump hammering Biden over the issue on the campaign trail. Brennan played a video clip of Trump saying: “Do you notice [Biden]’s trying to save the electrical vehicle but not the gas-powered, which is the vehicle that everybody wants. They’re going crazy with the electric car, costing us a fortune. We’re spending hundreds of billions of dollars subsidizing a car that nobody wants and nobody’s ever gonna buy.” Brennan responded to the clip of Trump’s remarks by stating: “He’s not wrong.” Buttigieg insisted that Trump was wrong, to which Brennan responded: “On the purchasing, he’s not. Of the 4 million vehicles purchased, you know what- 269,000 electric vehicles were sold in the US market. It’s up like 2%.” Later in the interview, Brennan pressed Buttigieg about the $7.5 billion investment that taxpayers made back in 2021 for a charging network for electric vehicles that has produced only seven or eight charging stations total, a job that Buttigieg is supposed to be overseeing, Brennan said. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) said during an interview over the weekend that illegal border crossings are temporarily down because Mexico has important elections soon, and politicians there want to convince voters that they are strong on national security measures. Gonzales made the remarks during a Sunday CBS News interview with Margaret Brennan on “Face The Nation” when asked about the numbers, which are still very high under President Joe Biden compared to previous administrations. “It doesn’t have to do with what Joe Biden has done. We’re on pace [this year] for 1.3 million people to come over illegally,” he said. “The numbers are down. The explanation is Mexico. A lot of people don’t realize Mexico has an election next month for its presidency, nine governorships and its congress. So, in many cases, those that are running on security platforms are keeping the numbers down.” “The cartels are like – they are like companies,” he continued. “So they’re taking a loss in Q1 and Q2 in order to increase the volume in Q3 and Q4. So, if any – in many – in many ways, this is just Mexico carrying Biden a couple rounds. Now, if Joe Biden wants to secure this thing long term, I think he needs to stop looking at the Senate for a solution and look to the House.” Gonzales said that Biden could fix the problem by backing H.R.2, the Republicans’ solution to Biden’s illegal immigration crisis, but that even just talking with the House would be impactful because he refuses to negotiate with Republicans.
