Two students find security bug that could let millions do laundry for free

Illustration by Carlo Cadenas / The Verge A security lapse could let millions of college students do free laundry, thanks to one company. That’s because of a vulnerability that two University of California, Santa Cruz students found in internet-connected washing machines in commercial use in several countries, according to TechCrunch. The two students, Alexander Sherbrooke and Iakov Taranenko, apparently exploited an API for the machines’ app to do things like remotely command them to work without payment and update a laundry account to show it had millions of dollars in it. The company that owns the machines, CSC ServiceWorks, claims to have more than a million laundry and vending machines in service at colleges, multi-housing communities, laundromats, and more in the US,... Europe’s Pagans Imported Horses to Sacrifice… and They Got Them From Christians

Horse sacrifices were a mainstay of pagan rituals across the Baltic. The archaeology leaves no doubt: from the 1st to 13th centuries AD this pagan belief scarcely wavered in popularity: even the loss of such an important animal was worth it to please your Dark Age gods. Obviously, the ancient Baltic tribes needed a constant supply of horses for their ceremonial sacrifices. And, according to a new study published in the journal Science Advances, we now know where they got them. The last of the pagan Balts were buying their horses from Christian Scandinavia. King Aelle and the Blood Eagle: Ritual Sacrifice in Viking Age Britain Horses as Symbols of Power in History and Mythology The new research is based on multiple pagan sites of horse sacrifice, in Lithuania and beyond (French et al / Science Advances) Read moreSection: NewsHistory & ArchaeologyHistoryAncient TraditionsRead Later

Dems, GOP: Showdown This Week Over Noncitizen Voting in DC

In what is likely to be a politically charged showdown this week on immigration and home rule in Washington, D.C., House Democrat leaders are encouraging its members to vote against a Republican bill that would block a district law permitting noncitizens to vote in local elections.

John Oates says he only wishes Daryl Hall the best

After reuniting and touring around the world during the last few years, the duo Daryl Hall and John Oates came officially to an end. Last November 2023, the feud between them was revealed when Hall filed a lawsuit and obtained a temporary restraining order against Oates. It was an attempt to block Oates from selling his share in their joint venture. As Hall said, by doing that Oates would violate their business agreement and said it was the “ultimate business betrayal”. Now in an interview with Rolling Stone, Oates said that the duo is over and that Hall will say the same if asked. In an interview with "Good Morning America," John Oates said that he only wishes Hall the best. The musician said that he hopes that Daryl now can pursue his goal of being a respected solo artist, which is something Oates said that his ex-bandmate always wanted. When asked if there was something he would like to say to Hall at this moment, Oates said: "I love you like a brother. But you know what? Brothers have disagreements, families grow apart. (I) would say, I wish him the best." "I hope that he has everything he wants in life. That he can pursue his dream of being a respected solo artist. I believe is something that he's always wanted," John Oates said. He said he doubts they will ever reunite again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAfX2efZao0&pp=ygUTaGFsbCBhbmQgb2F0ZXMgMjAyMg%3D%3D In the same conversation, the musician said that over the past 20 years, they would show up at the shows individually, play together but then go our separate ways. He also said that he doubts that the duo will ever reunite again. "I doubt it (we will reunite again), I'd never say never to anything, But I doubt it. I think Daryl and I have moved beyond it, I really do. The future of Hall & Oates is in its past. We have a body of work that is so big and so deep and it's never even been tapped. To be honest with you, because the hits overshadow (the other songs). We've had the big hits, which is great, believe me. I'm very appreciative of it. But those big hits overshadow the body of work that we've done," John Oates said. The post John Oates says he only wishes Daryl Hall the best appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Slash says Guns N’ Roses are trying to make a new album

It's been 8 years since the guitarist Slash and the bassist Duff McKagan returned to Guns N' Roses and since then the band is constantly touring around the world. A few reworked tracks were released along the way but they were unfinished songs from the "Chinese Democracy" era, so they were not written from scratch by this line-up. But in an interview with Daily Star, Slash said that the band is trying to make a new album. He was asked why Duff and Axl were not part of his new solo album "Orgy Of The Damned" and that was when he confirmed they are working on a new record. "Guns N' Roses are trying to make their own record and I'm working with them in that capacity but this didn't involve anyone else," Slash said. In 2021, the band released the tracks "Absurd" and "Hard Skool", which were then featured on their live shows. In 2023, the songs released were "Perhaps" and "The General", which were also played live at their shows, but they are all reworked tracks from the "Chinese Democracy" album, which is the most recent one released by the group. It took more than a decade to make the record, a huge number of artists played on it and it was finally released under mixed reviews in 2008. The band has no current tour dates scheduled but Slash continues on the road next July and August promoting his new covers album. The bassist Duff McKagan also has scheduled tour dates to promote his latest solo records. The shows will happen next September and October in Europe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdBsMBaqnME&pp=ygUKaGFyZCBza29vbA%3D%3DThe post Slash says Guns N’ Roses are trying to make a new album appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
