Americans are expressing “warmer” feelings toward President-elect Donald Trump after his 2024 election victory than after the 2016 and 2020 elections, according to survey results published by Pew Research Center on Friday. A majority of Americans (53%) said they approve of Trump’s plans for his second term, while 46% disapprove, according to Pew Research. The survey, which received responses from more than 9,500 adults from November 12 to 17, showed that Americans expressed the most confidence in Trump’s ability to handle economic policy (59%), law enforcement and criminal justice (54%), immigration (53%), and foreign policy (53%). On the issues of abortion and unifying the country, however, fewer Americans expressed confidence in Trump’s plans — 45% are confident in Trump’s handling of abortion, while 41% are confident that he can unite the country. Pew also asked respondents to indicate how they felt about Trump, ranging from “very warm” and “warm” to “cold” and “very cold.” Forty-three percent of respondents said they felt “warm” or “very warm” toward Trump, a significant increase from 34% after the 2020 election and 36% after the 2016 election. The positive results for Trump from the Pew survey come just days after a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll showing that 54% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing as he prepares for another term, The Hill reported. According to the poll, 91% of Republicans, 49% of independents, and 22% of Democrats approve of how Trump is handling the transition period. Americans have already received a glimpse into what Trump’s second term will look like as the president-elect quickly got to work naming people to fill important cabinet positions. Trump is also leading in the popular vote by more than 2.5 million votes as ballots continue to be counted in some states. During his four years in office, Trump’s approval rating reached 49% in early 2020 before dipping to 34% by the end of his term.

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—The Biden-Harris Department of Justice wants to place a gag order on the Texas surgeon indicted for blowing the whistle on a hospital performing sex changes on minors. The DOJ argued Wednesday that Dr. Eithan Haim’s discussion of his case on X created “a substantial likelihood of prejudicing the Government, further tainting the jury pool, and impeding the Court’s ability to hold a fair trial.” Prosecutors cited posts Haim made highlighting the judge’s heavy criticism of the government’s conduct during a hearing last week. During a Nov. 15 hearing, Judge David Hittner, a Reagan appointee, pressed prosecutors on why they included a word in their indictment that wasn’t in the original statute, according to the transcript. “It’s obvious that the government didn’t proofread or review the superseding indictment to prevent these errors, but are you going to file another superseding indictment or what?” the judge asked. Haim posted sections of the transcript on X and wrote that the DOJ “so thoroughly embarrassed themselves, it’s hard to comprehend how this is still ongoing.” As if it couldn't get any worse, the DOJ has now submitted a motion for a gag order. Prosecutors pointed in their filing to a section of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct that lawyers should not make public statements that have “a substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing an adjudicatory proceeding.” The DOJ indicted Haim in June for allegedly violating the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which protects the disclosure of personal health information. Haim provided documentation to journalist Christopher Rufo in 2023 demonstrating Texas Children’s Hospital was continuing to perform sex-change procedures on minors after publicly stating the program had been shut down. Rufo has stated none of the documents Haim provided included information identifying any individual. U.S. Attorney Tina Ansari, a federal prosecutor pursuing the case against Haim, also filed documents while her law license was suspended in September. She was placed on administrative suspension for failing to pay her dues, which she paid after the defense highlighted her status in a filing. Matt Gaetz of Florida announced Friday that he will not be returning to serve in the 119th Congress.This announcement came after Gaetz withdrew his bid for attorney general just two weeks after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him for the position, which sparked controversy on Capitol Hill. Although Gaetz is eligible to serve the term to which he was re-elected, he mentioned in his resignation letter that he did not "intend" to return to the House and then confirmed that he will not return on Charlie Kirk's podcast. “I’m still going to be in the fight, but it’s going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress,” Gaetz told Kirk.Gaetz has spent several days alongside Vice President-elect JD Vance holding meetings with senators ahead of his confirmation. Gaetz withdrew following his time spent on the Senate side, saying his confirmation was "unfairly becoming a distraction" for the Trump transition team. "There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I'll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General," Gaetz said in a Thursday post on X. Trump has since nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for the role. Republicans now have only a narrow House majority, and the vacancy left by Gaetz has yet to be filled. "There are a number of fantastic Floridians who’ve stepped up to run for my seat, people who have inspired with their heroism, with their public service," Gaetz told Kirk. "And I’m actually excited to see Northwest Florida go to new heights and have great representation."
