PBS/CNN host Christiane Amanpour likes to say that journalists should “be truthful, not neutral,” but when she welcomed author Reza Aslan to Wednesday’s Amanpour and Company to promote his new children’s book on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, she could not be bothered to fact-check his debunked casualty estimates from Gaza. Ironically, the whole segment was a violation of Amanpour’s dictum, as the duo portrayed the conflict as a massive tragedy between two sides who refuse to understand that they both have legitimate aspirations and historical grievances against each other. Amanpour began, “So, you know, it just seems to be such a daring thing to do right now, to write a children's book about the hottest conflict, well, obviously Russia and Ukraine as well, but one of the most difficult ones to broach and to think about. So, just tell me why you did it and who actually you're targeting.”     Aslan began, “Well, as you know, over the last seven months of this conflict, since the attacks of October 7th, which led to the death of 1,300 Israelis, including 33 children, some 14,000 children have been killed in Gaza. That's more children than in all the other global conflicts around the world since 2019.” Critics have long argued that Hamas’s numbers cannot be relied upon and recently they were proved correct as the U.N., which relies on Hamas for its reports, halved its estimates. Specifically, it revised the female casualty estimates from 9,500 to 4,959 and from 14,500 to 7,797 for children. Amanpour didn’t step in to correct the record, nor did she point out the truth once Aslan was done speaking. Instead, Aslan broadly summarized the book: And when you're, you know, confronted with that kind of devastation, that kind of horror, I could understand why, as parents, we want to shield our children from it. But I truly do believe, as a parent of four children myself, that this conflict is actually an opportunity to teach our kids and give them the tools necessary to cultivate compassion and empathy, the critical thinking skills, because, yes, this war has been devastating for the children of Israel and Palestine, but children all around the world, including here in the United States, have also been impacted by this conflict. They're inundated with these images of destruction and despair. It's unavoidable, Christiane. And as parents, I get it. Most of us feel like we ourselves barely understand this conflict. I do it for a living and I barely understand it. And so, what I wanted to do was provide a text that would allow caregivers, parents to have the meaningful conversations necessary with their children that could give them context, a sense of understanding about where we are in this conflict. And most importantly, to counter some of the stereotypes and the prejudices that are just flooding them from all sides. If Aslan wants to portray the conflict as tremendously complicated and argue that starting the process of solving it requires both sides to look in the mirror, he cannot use the fake statistics that one side uses to hurl libelous charges of genocide. America just might be moving closer to ridding itself of celebrity idolatry. Known as the “digital guillotine,” or “digitine,” a new online trend of blocking celebrities and content creators like Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift has begun. Jason Whitlock is surprised, as it’s a trend that was created by the left, not the right. “Leftists are starting to get just as upset with celebrities as people on the right, and they’re basically blocking celebrities all across social media apps in protest to celebrities that don’t speak out in favor of Palestine,” Whitlock says. “This is all fascinating that the left is joining the right, or conservatives, in their animus and in their calling out of celebrities,” he adds. Whitlock believes this is a part of the “awakening” happening about idolatry in America right now. “The American idols that have been installed are in hot water right now, and it used to just be with those of us that are considered conservatives. We figured out like man, these celebrities are full of BS. They don’t say what they believe, they support anti-American values, they’re told what to think and say, they’re unoriginal,” Whitlock says. “Now the left is starting to figure that out,” he adds. The left was “triggered” by the most recent Met Gala, where “celebrities come dressed half naked or wildly in costumes” and there are “a lot of dudes in dresses.” The Gala charged $75,000 a ticket this year, which is what sent the left into a celebrity-blocking frenzy. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) continued to express his dismay that the sanctuary city is having to pour millions of dollars into taking care of the tens of thousands of processed and released migrants who have illegally crossed into the United States.Johnson blamed Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott's busing program for causing "chaos" for Chicago by offering free transportation to a sanctuary city of the migrants' choice. Other cities include Los Angeles, New York City, and Denver. The busing program was created to relieve Texas' border towns from having homeless migrants who did not have the money to purchase a bus or plane ticket after being released by Border Patrol."We have brought calm, structure to a very volatile situation," Johnson asserted to WGN 9."But again, this is unprecedented! Unprecedented. Never in the history of the U.S. has a local government been asked to build a resettlement for migrants, but here we are," he vented.Since the start of the border crisis under President Joe Biden, 41,000 processed and released migrants have arrived in Chicago. While Texas' busing program has contributed to those numbers, it does not account for all of the people who have come from the southern border.Border Patrol data shows the number of illegal immigrants who have managed to avoid apprehension has "exploded" under Biden.Johnson defended his administration's approach to the migrant issue, which he says centered around the migrants' humanity and saving taxpayers money.Despite the crisis being caused by policies pursued by the Biden administration, Johnson blamed Republicans in Congress and former President Donald Trump for not agreeing with Democrats on their solutions to the border. Democrats' proposed solutions largely do not include policies to discourage illegal immigrants from crossing the border and instead provide more money to sanctuary cities and NGOs that have helped facilitate the crisis.Fox News reporter Bill Melugin revealed Border Patrol data shows the number of illegal immigrants who have managed to avoid apprehension has "exploded" under Biden.In fiscal year 2018, the number of gotaways was 128,679. Residents of Hudson, Ohio, about a half-hour southeast of Cleveland, are demanding answers after a local high school student was permitted to attend school and compete in track events for months even after he was charged with raping a 9-year-old child.According to the indictment seen by Blaze News before the case was sealed, last December, Jeremiah Earl Stoehr allegedly lured a 9-year-old child — who is a boy, as indicated by the pronouns used in the indictment — "for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity." Stoehr then allegedly raped the boy. Stoehr is believed to have been an 18-year-old adult at the time of the alleged assault.Stoehr had apparently been going to class and participating in track practices and meets — wearing an ankle bracelet — while students and parents remained in the dark about the charges against him.In February, Stoehr was arrested and subsequently indicted by a grand jury on five felony counts: first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, third-degree gross sexual imposition, and fifth-degree disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.Despite the seriousness of those charges, Stoehr was assessed a $25,000 bond, and he paid 10% of it to ensure his release from custody. He was then ordered to wear a GPS tracking device, abide by a curfew, and have no contact with the "prosecuting witness" or the witness' "family members," according to the arraignment document seen by Blaze News before the case was sealed.Still, neither Judge Alison Breaux nor the Hudson City School District prevented Stoehr from continuing to attend school and most extracurricular activities as normal, so long as he had "maximum pretrial supervision" as well. In fact, according to documents seen by Blaze News before the case was sealed, the court granted curfew extensions so that Stoehr could attend multiple functions that are not related to education, including a track banquet, prom, and an after-prom event. Whether he attended the prom-related activities is unclear. However, until the last couple of weeks, Stoehr had apparently been going to class and participating in track practices and meets — wearing an ankle bracelet — while students and parents remained in the dark about the charges against him.On Monday, the district acknowledged via email that "one of [its] high school students" was the subject of criminal investigation. By Thursday, this student — ostensibly Stoehr — had "voluntarily" decided to refrain from attending all "activities pertaining to Hudson High School for the rest of the school year," including classes and graduation, according to a follow-up email from Superintendent Dana Addis seen by Blaze News.Addis added in the email that the district "is extremely limited in what information" it can share with parents. He also noted that "the alleged incident did not occur on district property and did not involve another Hudson City School District student."Blaze News spoke with several parents with children in the district, and many reiterated that Stoehr has not been convicted of these crimes and is therefore entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence. Still, they likewise expressed relief that Stoehr agreed to steer clear of campus for the time being and frustration that the district was not more forthright about the accusations until recently."The Hudson Schools have not communicated well with regard to the current situation, where an alleged child rapist has been attending school, running track, and living the same student life as everyone else. I don't begrudge him that, if he's not been convicted of anything. But I do think the school system could have communicated better about the issue," said George Carson, whose son attends Hudson High School.In a recent Substack article about the case, Jeff Charles, a self-described "political commentator and satirist" who also writes for RedState, likewise stated that "members of the community feel" that the recent communication from the district "is too little, too late."The school "seems more worried about its reputation than the safety of its students," one parent told Charles. "It’s all about rankings and appearances rather than real proactive measures to safeguard its students."On Thursday afternoon, the judge approved a motion to remove all materials about the case from the website of the Summit County clerk of courts and to "seal the docket until the conclusion of the trial in this matter," according to a court document reviewed by Blaze News. Defense counsel Maxwell Hiltner made the request out of concern for the "privacy and safety of all parties involved." Prosecutors raised no objection to removing the materials and sealing the case, the document said.Brian LoPrinzi, chief of the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Division, told Blaze News: "Per the Ohio rules of professional conduct, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office cannot comment publicly on open cases or investigations."Hiltner, the attorney representing Stoehr, gave Jeff Charles the following statement: "Jeremiah has pleaded not guilty to all charges, he maintains his innocence, and in this country he's presumed to be innocent. As for the “hush money” trial, Levin calls it a “spectacle.” “You have witnesses testifying with collateral evidence to character assassinate the defendant” and a “judge who gags the defendant, not because the defendant’s dangerous, because he doesn’t want the defendant criticizing what’s taking place.” Not only that, but the star witness is “an untrustworthy liar.” “Cohen repeatedly and unambiguously testified at the state court trial that he was not guilty of tax evasion and that he had lied under oath,” Levin says, adding, “This guy lies his ass off for a thousand different reasons.
