This year’s Pride Month is shaping up to be a much more humble affair at Target. In an extremely gratifying twist, the company that bragged its transgender line is “great for our brand” has changed its mind after a yearlong stock market bruising. It’s the latest evidence that the wildfire of consumer activism is not only spreading but forcing the kind of change most people never thought possible. If you asked conservatives two years ago, stopping the woke at major brands would’ve been a victory. But reversing the woke? That’s a tectonic shift in the power structure of Big Business. For once, CEOs—who for years have thrown their radical agenda in the face of shoppers—are feeling enough pain in their profit margins to stop and ask if appeasing the far Left is worth it. Target CEO Brian Cornell, who flaunted the stores’ chest binders and tucking swimming suits for kids as “progress,” finally counted the cost of his social extremism late last summer. By the end of a dismal August, he didn’t apologize, but he did admit that it was time for some soul-searching. As his first and second quarter earnings tanked, he hinted at changes ahead. “As we navigate an ever-changing operating and social environment, we’re applying what we’ve learned to ensure we’re staying close to our guests and their expectations of Target.” What Cornell learned, Americans will be pleased to know, is that trans activism is the fastest road to financial insolvency. After thumbing his nose at Christmas shoppers with shelves full of LGBTQ pandering, the full weight of consumer outrage started to sink in. Like his counterparts at Anheuser-Busch, Nike, Disney, Planet Fitness, Rip Curl, and Doritos, he sent shoppers running for the exits. But the activism has obviously gotten to an unsustainable point for his business, forcing Target to announce what would have been unthinkable a year and a half ago: a significant reduction in Pride products. On its website Thursday, the company wanted people to know that this summer’s LGBTQ merchandise will not only be limited but designed with adults—not children—in mind. “We’re offering a collection of products including adult apparel and home and food and beverage items, curated based on consumer feedback,” the notice read. “The collection will be available on Target.com and in select stores, based on historical sales performance.” Of the company’s 2,000 stores nationwide, only some will carry the items that landed them in hot water last year. Naturally, the company’s course-correction didn’t thrill the corporate hostage-takers in the LGBTQ movement, who immediately blasted Target’s decision to put profitability first. Kelley Robinson, president of the extreme Human Rights Campaign, said Cornell’s move was a disappointing betrayal of their progressive values. “Pride merchandise means something,” she insisted. “LGBTQ+ people are in every ZIP code in this country, and we aren’t going anywhere.” The company’s PR team rushed to reassure Robinson and other activists, saying in a statement, “Target is committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month and year-round,” headquarters wrote. “Most importantly, we want to create a welcoming and supportive environment for our LGBTQIA+ team members, which reflects our culture of care for the over 400,000 people who work at Target.” So while Americans can (and should) celebrate the difference they’re making with their money, the work isn’t over. This muted approach to Pride is still an effort to play both sides. As Family Research Council President Tony Perkins told The Washington Stand, “CEO Brian Cornell is discovering that customers do ‘expect more’ now that many consumers are spending less at Target because of its LGBTQ fixation. By avoiding Target, consumers are getting the woke corporation’s attention, but not necessarily their behavior. They should continue spending elsewhere until their behavior meets consumers’ expectations.” Family Research Council’s Meg Kilgannon also chimed in, pointing out that Pride Month’s celebration of “unnatural lifestyles, proclivities, and identities has become more and more obnoxious over time.” The idea that Target is “setting a limit on Pride merchandising and marketing is remarkable for a corporate America too willing to bend the knee to HRC’s fake business scores,” she agreed. “As American shoppers endure rising prices and lower wages, retail stores suffer—not only from Bidenomics—but their own ridiculous investments in social justice and culture war issues that have nothing to do with profits and everything to do with virtue signaling to shape public opinion.” “I haven’t shopped in Target recently and don’t plan to,” Kilgannon said. “But it is nice to think that the June rainbow radicals might be dialing things back. If people stop shopping in June, or at least stop spending money in stores and with businesses with rainbow logos and beyond, more retailers will get the message.” Others, like expert Stephen Soukup, author of “The Dictatorship of Woke Capital,” urge people not to be duped by Target’s “half-measures.” “They seem unlikely to make anyone happy,” he told The Washington Stand, “while almost certainly frustrating observers and activists on all sides of the issue. Target says, for example, that it is carefully assessing which stores will have LGBTQ merchandise this year,” he pointed out. “That’s irrelevant in the digital age. Wherever the displays are, they will be videoed and uploaded to social media, causing every bit of outrage and frustration they have caused in previous years,” Soukup said.  “Likewise,” he explained, “it’s important to remember that Target took a hit on its Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index score last year, simply because it responded to customer anger at its displays. The company will almost certainly get nicked again this year for supposedly capitulating to anti-LGBTQ sentiment by limiting its Pride Month offerings.” Ultimately, Soukup predicted, “Both outcomes are likely to aggravate Target’s shareholders. It took several months last year for the company’s stock price to recover from its Pride Month-induced freefall, and a repeat of that disaster may well cause larger and more activist investors to question management’s competence and foresight.” Regardless, there’s no denying that Americans are moving the needle on corporate extremism. As Perkins said on Rep. Mike Johnson’s, R-La., “Truth Be Told” podcast before he was elected speaker, “This is not a gray area” for most people. Even non-believers understand the difference between males and females. “And I actually think this is why we’re seeing such significant pushback across the nation … ” When Americans are silent, he warned, “we are playing right along with the deception that is destroying the lives of many young people.” At the end of the day, he acknowledged, “What we have is not our own. … God has entrusted you with the resources to buy food, clothing, the necessities of life. Do you think He would really want you sending that to an entity that uses the profits … [to attack] the biblical truth that he expects us to live by? So it really comes down to a stewardship issue. It’s not about boycotting. [It’s about using money] in a way that would honor God. … And I’ll have to be very, very clear. A large tax increase is scheduled to hit almost all taxpayers at the end of next year—that is, unless Congress comes up with, and agrees to, another plan before then. Expect a lot of talk about taxes from politicians over the next year-and-a-half as Washington grapples with the looming tax cliff. Unfortunately, few lawmakers will speak the blunt truth that onerous taxes punish wealth creation and innovation, and therefore lead to less prosperity for everyone. Even fewer will address the shadow that unsustainable deficits cast on future prosperity, as our kids and grandkids face the prospect of far more onerous taxes and inflation. Instead of talking about the harm that taxes cause to America’s economic vitality, most lawmakers will talk about taxes from one of three perspectives: the Tax Demagogues, the Tax Benefactors, and the Economic Stimulators. The language each of them uses undermines, in its own way, the reality that overtaxation and overspending drag down the economy. In their desire to raise taxes and spending, the Tax Demagogues appeal to people’s envy. The problem with our society, they say, is that the rich don’t pay their “fair share.” Never mind that the top 1% of Americans pay more than 45% of federal income taxes. Or they might say the problem is that we don’t tax “greedy” businesses enough—as if raising business taxes will cause them to make better products at lower prices while paying higher wages. As if higher taxes will encourage the entry of innovative startups that drive competition. By trying to persuade voters that taxes are someone else’s problem, the Tax Demagogues hope to continue spending with impunity. The next category, the Tax Benefactors, could be mistaken for philanthropists based on their rhetoric. The problem is they want to be philanthropic with someone else’s money. Their “tax plans” focus on expanding tax credits and benefits to Americans who pay no taxes. They tout credits for health care, child care, low-income housing, and everything else under the sun. They claim that cutting a check “lifts people out of poverty,” apparently ignorant of how much harm has been caused by the welfare state since the 1960s. To listen to them talk about the government raining down “tax benefits” upon people, you might forget that the government can’t pay for such benefits unless it taxes that money away from someone else or simply prints the money, inflating away the value of people’s hard-earned incomes and savings. The last category, the Economic Stimulators, are more eclectic. Sometimes, their tax proposals are sound, but even then the Economic Stimulators shroud their policies in language that makes it seem like the government must come in to boost the economy like a car with a dead battery. But if the economic engine isn’t humming, it’s because taxes and the government leviathan are gumming things up. Good pro-growth tax policy isn’t about the government “stimulating investment; it’s about removing government-imposed constraints to allow Americans to invest and innovate more freely. Excessive and poorly designed taxes kill jobs, reduce wages, and drive investments overseas. Improved tax policies help mitigate that damage, but government policy doesn’t create jobs; entrepreneurs and businesses do. They do this when they’re free to keep most of what they build so they can continue to build, invest, and expand their endeavors, while creating job opportunities and innovative new products in the process. Policymakers must not lose sight of who the actual job creators are. Taxes aren’t the only problem America faces as the 2025 tax cliff approaches. There’s also the matter of the $34.6 trillion national debt that’s driving inflation and interest rates higher. Given America’s fiscal position, it isn’t good enough to say that taxes should be cut indiscriminately. Lawmakers should avoid adding to the mounting federal debt and deficits. First and foremost, Congress must cut spending to get deficits under control. The deficit doesn’t stem from too little taxation, it stems from too much spending. But to avoid exacerbating the deficits and debt, lawmakers must also focus on tax reforms that allow the economy to grow in a fiscally responsible way. How do they do that? Here are five keys (elaborated upon in greater detail in this report): Improve incentives by reducing harmful taxes on productive activities such as investing, saving, and working. The more the government taxes what leads to prosperity, the less prosperous society will be. Eliminate unnecessary carveouts to allow for lower tax rates. Special-interest tax credits and industry-specific breaks for things like electric vehicles and solar and wind power unnecessarily distort prices and hurt the economy. Fewer carveouts enable lower tax rates. Make tax policy permanent, not temporary. Permanent tax reforms allow businesses to operate under a stable set of rules that is both simpler and less likely to encourage federal lobbying. Reduce high tax rates and double taxation. Part of the danger of uneven, poorly designed taxes is that they distort price signals, which are critical to a well-functioning economy. High tax rates and multiple layers of taxation wreak far more economic havoc than modest rates. Simplify taxes. The billions of hours that individuals and businesses dedicate to their taxes and to tax planning because of the complexity of the tax code saps economic resources and reduces Americans’ living standards. Excessive debt threatens American prosperity, but higher taxes on wealth creators and innovators is no solution. Just as someone earning $1 million per year can afford higher monthly mortgage payments than someone making much less, a strong economy is essential if America’s economic engine is to be powerful enough to get out of our gaping fiscal hole. To allow Americans to prosper, Congress must mitigate the damage of its own taxes, spending, and debt, so that entrepreneurs and innovators can lead us out of the mess that Washington created. While the border crisis rages on and frequent, preventable crimes as well as stories of illegal aliens displacing Americans in receiving services continue to come out of cities like New York, Chicago, and Denver, even rural America will not be spared. This is all thanks to the Biden administration and several allied nongovernmental organizations, or NGOs. NGOs facilitate Biden’s border crisis by transporting, sheltering, feeding, and providing social and legal services for the millions migrating to and throughout the U.S. NGOs receive billions of dollars in federal funding to resettle aliens in our communities regardless of their legal status and without proper vetting or coordination efforts with localities. In 2024, for example, World Relief, a global Christian organization, has received U.S. taxpayer funding to transport 75 Somalis to rural Wisconsin. Seventy-five may seem insignificant compared to the millions of illegal aliens who have already crossed our southern border, but this is just the beginning for Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties as well as the surrounding area. The plan is to resettle at least 3,000 Somalis in western Wisconsin over the next three years, where nearly 1,900 already reside. World Relief is one of the NGOs the Biden administration uses to transport and resettle aliens in the U.S., and it receives some of the highest taxpayer funding. Over the past 12 months, the U.S. government awarded the organization over $91 million for such services, according to USASpending.gov. Yet, with respect to at least Wisconsin resettlement, World Relief has failed to coordinate efforts with local officials thus far. Federal law requires resettlement agencies to frequently consult with local officials to arrange “the intended distribution of refugees among the States and localities before their placement in those States and localities.” Notice is critical when resettling thousands of foreign nationals into U.S. neighborhoods to make sure localities’ resources and services—including housing, schools, and jobs—are not overburdened by the influx of immigrants. There should not be a risk of Wisconsin residents being displaced and their children’s schooling disrupted due to an unmanageable influx of immigrants as we’ve seen in cities throughout the U.S. This can be preventable with notice and approval by local officials. Wisconsinites must be alerted to the national security concerns of resettlement as well. The Biden administration has consistently done little or no vetting of those it has mass-released into America. The U.S. government does not have a strong relationship with Somalia, so it is not able to properly vet each migrant with the assistance of the Somali government. Similarly, when the U.S. surrendered Afghanistan in 2021, resulting in the Taliban—an Islamic terrorist organization—taking over the Afghan government, over 79,000 Afghans were admitted into the U.S. without proper vetting. In a Department of Homeland Security inspector general report, the inspector general found that the Afghans were not properly vetted because the U.S. lacked critical data needed for the vetting process. As a result of poor vetting practices, at least two Afghans who were national security threats were able to enter the U.S. It is unclear whether these Somalis being resettled in Wisconsin have been properly vetted by the U.S. government. When concerned Wisconsin residents asked a World Relief representative about background checks of the coming Somalis, the NGO representative responded, “I don’t know.” Given the Afghanistan precedent, Wisconsinites should not give the Biden administration the benefit of the doubt. Furthermore, Somalis already settled in the U.S. have resisted assimilation into America. For example, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, herself a resettled refugee, represents constituents from Minnesota, home to the largest population of Somalis in the U.S.—over 64,000. She has bragged about advancing a Somalia First agenda in Congress. What can Wisconsinites do regarding NGOs, a lack of resettlement notification and coordination, and potentially unvetted aliens? First, Wisconsin legislators should consider defunding and removing business licenses of organizations that operate in the state but do not adequately notify the state of future resettlement. Second, it is paramount that state and local law enforcement share information and cooperate with federal immigration enforcement officials to keep Wisconsin citizens safe. That means prohibiting “sanctuary” jurisdictions within the state and enforcing such anti-sanctuary policies. Sanctuary policies seek to protect criminal aliens from deportation while releasing them back onto the streets, endangering immigrant communities, law enforcement officers, and citizens alike. Finally, it must be noted that left-leaning NGOs are actively encouraging non-U.S. citizens, including illegal aliens, to register and vote in this year’s elections, even though noncitizens cannot lawfully vote in federal elections. As one example, an NGO posted flyers in its migrant camp in Mexico, instructing illegal aliens about to cross our southern border to vote in the 2024 election for Joe Biden. At a time when election integrity is under great scrutiny and masses of foreigners are entering our country through the wide-open border, Americans must protect their own legitimate votes. Wisconsin should safeguard its voter registration and elections by requiring photo ID during registration and voting and by regularly cleaning its voter rolls to prevent noncitizens from voting or having ballots cast in their name. While an NGO resettling a refugee population into rural Wisconsin may initially seem of minimal consequence, it is important for Wisconsinites—and all Americans—to see the bigger national picture of Biden’s open border policies, the NGOs facilitating his agenda, and the consequences for U.S. citizens. It is up to Wisconsin citizens to enforce sound policies to protect Wisconsin resources, public safety, and election integrity. Other states face similar challenges and need to do the same. A New York state supreme court judge has issued a ruling that will allow males to join female-only sports teams in Nassau County once again.In February, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman signed an executive order that barred trans-identifying males from joining female-only sports teams that use county athletic facilities for competition, as Blaze News previously reported."Lack of courage from a judge who didn’t want to decide the case on its merits."However, many LGBTQ-related organizations immediately cried foul, and New York Attorney General Letitia James vowed to fight the executive order in court. In a cease and desist letter issued days later, James called Blakeman's executive order "discriminatory," "transphobic," and "illegal."Now, it seems James and other LGBTQ+ supporters have won the first round of legal battles in this case. On Friday, in response to a lawsuit filed by the New York Civil Liberties Union on behalf of the Long Island Roller Rebels, a women’s roller derby league based in Nassau County, Justice Francis Ricigliano of the New York Supreme Court claimed that Blakeman lacked the authority to enact the policy regarding women's and girls' sports and therefore overruled it."This Court finds the County Executive acted beyond the scope of his authority as the Chief Executive Officer of Nassau County," Ricigliano wrote in the 13-page decision. The judge claimed that the county legislature must first pass such a bill before the county executive can sign it into law. Thus, Ricigliano apparently did not consider the merits of the case but only the procedures undergirding it."Lack of courage from a judge who didn’t want to decide the case on its merits. Unfortunately girls and women are hurt by the court," Blakeman said about the judge and the ruling.
