Rand Paul were vocal in opposing Biden’s debt cancellation for Ukraine. “I’m forcing a vote on my resolution to prevent Biden from turning Ukraine’s debt into America’s problem,” Paul posted on X. “His proposal places the burden of funding Ukraine’s businesses, farmers, and corrupt bureaucrats on the shoulders of hardworking Americans.” (READ MORE: What Great Allies We Are)  Earlier in April, the White House gave Ukraine a $9 billion loan as part of a $60 billion package. On Wednesday, a letter from the State Department to Congress explained that forgiving half the debt will help Ukraine and “is in the national interest of the United States and its EU, G7+, and NATO partners.”  The U.S. Senate held a hearing about Paul’s resolution last night. “The Biden Administration wants to saddle the American people with a tab that they don’t want,” Utah Sen. Mike Lee said at the hearing.  State Department spokesperson Bryan Miller elaborated on the matter when asked by a reporter during a press briefing on Wednesday: “When Congress passed the supplemental appropriations bill back in April …. that allowed us to provide a certain amount of economic assistance to Ukraine.” ICYMI: The Department of State just told Ukraine they can keep $4.65 BILLION in hard-earned taxpayer money they originally were supposed to pay back. So we have taken the step that was outlined in the law to cancel those loans, provide that economic assistance to Ukraine, and now Congress is welcome to take it up if they wish,” Miller stated.  With less than two months left in office, the lame-duck president has made consistent efforts to aid Ukraine, recently granting Ukraine the use of long-range American missiles in their fight against Russia.
