President Donald Trump recently made a triumphant return to the White House after defeating Kamala Harris on Election Day. He met with Joe Biden to talk about the upcoming transition of power and, in a recent interview with the New York Post, revealed some of the things they discussed: “You know, it’s been a long, it’s been a long slog,” the 78-year-old said during a phone interview as he left Washington. “It’s been a lot of work on both sides and he did a very good job with respect to campaigning and everything else. We really had a really good meeting.” The last two presidents of the United States discussed the transition of power on Jan. 20, with Trump telling Biden in front of the world’s press that it would be “as smooth as can be” following the Republican’s attempt to contest the results four years ago that culminated in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Biden argued support for Ukraine was good for U.S. national security because a strong and stable Europe would keep America from being dragged into war, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told journalists. Trump has pledged to end the Russia-Ukraine war quickly without saying how. The rocket took off from SpaceX’s private “Starbase” facility near Brownsville, Texas. There were not any people on board the Starship flight. Starship reached space and traveled halfway around the Earth before reentering the atmosphere and splashing down in the Indian Ocean. SpaceX had aimed to return the rocket’s “Super Heavy” booster after it separated from Starship and land it on the arms of the company’s launch tower. But SpaceX said during its webcast that the booster did not clear its “commit criteria” needed for the catch attempt, so the booster splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico instead. SpaceX typically has a cadre of VIPs to view Starship launches and, with CEO Elon Musk’s close relationship with President-elect Donald Trump, the sixth flight wa no different. Trump attended the launch on Tuesday, similar to when he came to watch SpaceX’s first astronaut launch in Florida in 2020 during his first administration. SpaceX has flown the full Starship rocket system on six spaceflight tests so far since April 2023, at a steadily increasing cadence. Its previous launch last month featured the dramatic first catch of the rocket’s more than 20-story tall booster. After the successful fifth flight, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that SpaceX was authorized to move forward with the sixth flight. The rocket is powered by liquid oxygen and liquid methane. The full system requires more than 10 million pounds of propellant for launch. “Authorized”? Texas has offered the incoming Trump administration about 1,400 acres of land on the border to construct deportation facilities. The GLO, which oversees 13 million acres of state lands, confirmed the offer through a spokesperson. This comes as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott plans to expand buoy barriers across the Rio Grande to stop migrants from crossing the southern border despite border crossings dropping in the state. Abbott has maintained that Texas will have a proactive versus reactive stance at the border and will be prepared should a surge happen ahead of Trump’s inauguration.
