Trump's plan: Amnesty for 3.6 million illegal immigrants
Published 10 December 2024 at 17.17
Foreign. Donald Trump has stated that he will mass deport illegal immigrants. At the same time, he now announces that he wants to grant amnesty to millions of other illegal immigrants.

US President-elect Donald Trump says he wants to work with Democrats to find a solution for so-called "dreamers", illegal immigrants protected by the so-called DACA program.

- I want to work out a plan, but the Democrats have made it very difficult, Trump says about the amnesty plans in an interview with NBC News.

When asked if he wants dreamers to be allowed to stay in the country, he replies:

- I want it. I want to work something out.

Before the election, Trump also talked about greatly increasing so-called legal immigration from the Third World as well, by granting automatic permanent residency to all foreign students who graduate from American institutions of higher education.

DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was introduced in 2012 by President Barack Obama and gives people who came to the United States illegally as minors the right to live and work in the country for two years at a time, with the possibility of extension. Currently, around 535,000 people are covered by the program. No new applications have been approved since 2021, after a court ruled it illegal, but this does not affect those already protected by DACA.

In total, however, it is estimated that there are 3.6 million so-called dreamers in the United States who qualify for or could qualify for protection under the DACA program if it were fully available.

At the same time, Donald Trump has promised "mass deportations" of illegal immigrants. How it will turn out with that matter remains to be seen.

Denmark must deport all foreigners sentenced to prison
Published 10 December 2024 at 15:47
Foreign. Denmark is taking further steps to get rid of foreign nationals who commit crimes. Among other things, foreigners who are sentenced to prison must always also be deported.

The government announces in a press release that it plans to tighten the deportation rules for foreign citizens who have been sentenced to prison - regardless of how long they have been in the country.

- Foreigners in Denmark are unfortunately overrepresented in the crime statistics and too often commit serious crime, such as that connected to gang activity. We must not accept that. The hammer must fall even harder, says the country's social democratic immigration and integration minister Kaare Dybvad Bek.

Currently, a longer prison sentence is required to deport a person who has lived in Denmark for a long time, but this is now to be changed. The government proposes that all foreign citizens who are sentenced to unconditional prison sentences should be able to be deported, regardless of how long they have spent in the country or how long the sentence is. The only exception is if an expulsion would violate Denmark's international obligations.

- Every criminal alien deported by Denmark is a victory for the legal community and a victory for our country, says Kaare Dybvad Bek.
