Two of President Donald Trump’s most vocal media critics appear willing to play nice now that he’s headed back to the White House for a second term. Joe Scarborough and Mike Brzezinski, who are married and co-host MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” shared news about their recent trip to meet Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. According to The Hill: Brzezinski told the program’s audience it was the first time the two hosts, who are married, had met with Trump face-to-face in seven years. “We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so,” Scarborough said, reading from a script in the teleprompter. “What we did agree on was to restart communications,” Brzezinski added, noting the couple had not spoken to Trump since early in 2020, outside of a personal call Scarborough placed to Trump the morning after an attempt on his life at a rally over the summer. “In this meeting, he was upbeat, cheerful and he seemed interested in finding common ground on some of the most divisive issues,” Brzezinski said. News of the meeting soon began to spread via social media: Joe and Mika went to Mar a Lago to talk with Trump over the weekend. In fact, Rolling Stone published a piece ahead of the 2016 election that skewered both hosts for becoming the then-GOP candidate’s “lapdogs.” The embarrassing part starts when Brzezinski compliments Trump on his campaign stagecraft. She comments that it was a “wow” moment when Trump invited onstage two meatheads who tossed a protester from one of his South Carolina events. A side note: The vigorous physical expulsion of loser-protesters has become a predictable scene at Trump events. Every time I’ve seen it in person, it’s freaked me out — it’s like a window into some future WWE-style dissident-beheading ritual — but Mika apparently thought the video of the South Carolina incident was inspiring. “You know what I thought was kind of a wow moment, was the guy you brought up on stage,” Mika says. “We played it several times this morning!” adds a breathless Scarborough. One of the individuals selected to tackle the issue of government waste during President Donald Trump’s second term is speaking out about what that oversight might look like over the next four years. Vivek Ramaswamy weighed in on the prospect of slashing the federal government’s workforce as part of what is being called the Department of Government Efficiency — or DOGE, for short. As The Hill reported: “We expect mass reductions,” said during an appearance on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo. “We expect certain agencies to be deleted outright. We expect mass reductions in force in areas of the federal government that are bloated.” Ramaswamy also said “massive cuts” are expected among federal contractors “and others who are overbilling the federal government.” “I think people will be surprised by, I think, how quickly we’re able to move with some of those changes, given the legal backdrop the Supreme Court has given us,” he added. As Business Insider reported: Trump has long been preoccupied with cutting what he sees as Washington’s waste and fraud. “The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will ultimately be staffed and dedicated to this mission,” Brian Hughes, a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team, told BI in a statement. Quoting former Rep. Barney Frank, Kamarck said that excess federal spending is “marbled” throughout the budget, like fat throughout a steak, making the DOGE’s desired $2 trillion in cuts tricky. “It just doesn’t work, unless you decide to start cutting Social Security benefits or Medicare, at which point all hell breaks loose,” she told BI. “And you know, the bromance between Trump and Musk will end very quickly.” Known for streamlining efficiency at his companies, Musk says he wants to cut bureaucracy, shrink the federal workforce, and trim the number of federal agencies down to no more than 99 (there are currently more than 440).
