Slaughter of Dane Vikings Ordered in St. Brice’s Day Massacre, Nov 13, 1002

After a couple of hundred years of Viking raids, payments of tens of thousands of pounds of silver in protection money, and conquests over the Anglo-Saxons, by the year 1002 it seems King Aethelred II of Wessex in Southern England was nearing the end of his tether. But what apparently really led him to send out his kill-all order were rumors that the Danes were plotting his and his council’s death. In response to this supposed threat, Aethelred ordered his people to kill every Danish man on English soil. It is unclear how many Danish Vikings perished in the massacre, which was carried out on Nov. 13, 1002, St. Brice’s feast day. Archaeologists have recently been studying two mass graves of young men who died by violence and have speculated that they may have been slain in the St. Brice’s Day Massacre. The Life and Death of Sweyn Forkbeard and His Viking Empire Unraveling the Mystery of the Headless Vikings of Dorset Painting of Æthelred the Unready, circa 968-1016. Alice Cooper Recalls Scary Encounter With Elvis Presley

Singer-songwriter Alice Cooper had an unforgettable encounter with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Elvis Presley in the early ‘70s. Alice was at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, where Elvis was also lodged on the top floor with his entourage when he got summoned over. Actress Liza Minnelli and porn star Linda Lovelace were also present in the hotel room, which Alice was only allowed into after a thorough check for firearms. Elvis handed the rocker a “snub 32” gun, which Alice admitted he could have fired. What happened between Elvis Presley and Alice Cooper? Elvis Presley/Everett After making it past Elvis’ security team, Alice saw the room full of guns, and Elvis took him into the kitchen. In one of the drawers, there were even more of them, among which Elvis pulled out the loaded pistol and handed it to Alice. Alice recalled being dumbfounded as he feared one of Elvis’s bodyguards might show up at that moment and shoot him for pointing a pistol at their boss. Alice confessed to having intrusive thoughts about firing the gun to make history as the man who killed Elvis; however, he thought about just wounding him instead to avoid severe consequences. Alice Cooper/Everett Elvis Presley had his boot on Alice Cooper’s neck   While Alice was still nursing bizarre thoughts, Elvis kicked the gun out of his hand and immediately pinned him to the floor. The rock legend put his boot on Alice’s throat and made his point, saying, “That’s how you stop a man with a gun.” Elvis Presley/Everett Aside from the teachable moment, Alice and Elvis had mutual admiration for each other’s craft. Alice once revealed that Elvis loved his style of shocking audiences, adding that he looked up to the music legend back then. The 76-year-old released multiple albums this year, including a deluxe version of Muscle of Love from 1973.  Next up: Demi Moore Shows Off Toned, Curvy Body In Tiny Bikini The post Alice Cooper Recalls Scary Encounter With Elvis Presley appeared first on DoYouRemember? - The Home of Nostalgia.
