ESPN First Take host Stephen A. Smith has had enough of the leftist economic policies exacerbating Americans’ struggles to stay afloat amidst high prices and an unsustainable cost of living crisis. Smith took particular aim at news that New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ (D) administration would be enacting a $53 million taxpayer-funded pilot program to give illegal immigrants prepaid credit cards despite the city’s worsening homelessness crisis. “I see homeless folk in the streets of New York all the time that are American citizens. I damn sure see them in California. We’ve got poor‚ impoverished‚ starving people who were born and raised in this nation. How in the hell do we come up with a $53 million pilot program for illegals but folks who are here legally — are born here — we don’t have enough for them‚” Smith sharply rebuked during the Feb. 5 edition of The Stephen A Smith Show podcast. NYC is also in the middle of an illegal immigrant crisis. But the ESPN firebrand wasn’t finished and broadened his criticism to leftist lawmakers and policymakers who seem intent on spending billions in tax dollars in other places in the world while ignoring Americans in the homeland struggling to afford food and housing. “Just like we can come up with billions for Ukraine‚ but somehow — some way — we can’t fix the homeless problem.” Smith astutely observed‚ “What about poor and desolate citizens here? How the hell do you print money for foreign countries but you don’t print that money to help eradicate” the plight of “folks that are starving right here in the streets of America who were born and raised here?”  Smith also inadervtently blasted away the seemingly never-ending media gaslighting to Americans trying to make President Joe Biden’s economy seem like anything more than the disaster it has been:  Yes‚ you got to have a flourishing economy. Yes‚ you can’t have inflation. Yes‚ you can’t be on the verge of a recession. Milk don’t need to cost $7. Bread don’t need to cost $5. Don’t get me started on how much sugar costs. You can talk about employment all you want to. You can talk about the labor participation rate. But guess what: If you ain’t making no damn money and you got to get two jobs to pay the same prices or to buy the same amount of stuff that you used to buy and the price is higher than it used to be because of inflation‚ then guess what: What are you really accomplishing? Smith is spot on. In fact‚ The typical American household has to spend well over $11‚000 more a year on average today in order to maintain the same standard of living they had in January of 2021. Smith said this is exactly the kind of reality that could possible re-elect former President Donald Trump in November. “That’s why Trump is on the verge of getting elected — reelected. Texas asked the courts to put a halt to the vast web of online censorship operations‚ funded by the State Department. New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) announced Wednesday that it filed for a preliminary injunction requesting that the court immediately block Biden’s State Department from funding censorship projects like the Global Disinformation Index and NewsGuard. “No arm of the federal government has any business participating in the suppression and blacklisting of domestic media based on its content and viewpoint‚” said Peggy Little‚ Senior Litigation Counsel for NCLA. “The State Department scheme infringes all Americans’ First Amendment rights. Permitting such tools of oppression would render the First Amendment meaningless.” If affirmed by the court‚ the injunction would prohibit the federal government from funding or encouraging “the development or use of technology that targets in whole‚ or in part‚ Americans’ speech or the American press.”   NCLA is representing The State of Texas‚ The Daily Wire‚ and the Federalist who allege that by funding censorship projects through the State Department’s Global Engagement Center‚ the Biden administration is suppressing the press.  The GEC funded the dystopian Global Disinformation Index (GDI)‚ an infamous group whose self-described core output is a “Dynamic Exclusion List‚” a list of “the worst offending websites and apps.” The purpose of this list is “disrupting the ad-funded disinformation business model” by compiling information for tech companies and advertisers. The GEC also funded NewsGuard‚ a news reliability rating tool created to “enable brands to advertise on quality news sites and avoid propaganda or hoax sites.” GDI and Newsguard blacklist media outlets like The Daily Wire and the Federalist and actively discourage advertisers from working with the blacklisted sites. Their government-funded work made it difficult for the outlets to raise advertising revenue and market content. However‚ the NCLA is asking the court to “block this blatantly unlawful censorship regime before it can further abridge Americans’ civil liberties.” NCLA Counsel Margot Cleveland noted in a statement that this step is only the beginning. “The State Department may believe it is the arbiter of truth‚ but our Constitution says otherwise‚ she said. “While there is still much to uncover concerning efforts by our government to silence the speech of disfavored media members‚ an injunction barring the Defendants from continuing their unlawful censorship scheme will begin to restore our country’s first principles.” In an October 2022 report‚ the GDI listed both The Daily Wire and The Federalist‚ two of the plaintiffs‚ in its list of “riskiest sites” for advertisers.  NewsGuard‚ the other alleged malefactor‚ also had it out for both The Daily Wire and the Federalist‚ rating them each as unreliable. NewsGuard gave The Daily Wire a rating of 49.5 out of 100 indicating that users and advertisers should “proceed with caution.”  Federalist‚ however‚ has an abysmal rating of 12.5 out of 100 and a warning to “proceed with maximum caution.” Conservatives are under attack. There were still more than 10 months to go‚ but John Avlon had the early lead in the race for The Year's Most Inapt Analogy. Predictably‚ on Wednesday‚ CNN This Morning raked the House Republicans over the coals for their failure to get the necessary votes to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas‚ or pass a stand-alone Israel aid bill. Speaking of rakes‚ co-anchor Phil Mattingly kicked things off with this mocking depiction of Republicans: "This was clearly another day of a full-on pursuit of the Republican agenda of sequentially finding rakes and then stepping on them." Commenting on the situation‚ Avlon dropped a World War II analogy that was contextually dubious at best: So much losing. House Republicans have shown themselves to be unwilling and unable to govern in the national interest . . . So many levels of failure . . . So they are playing politics with the border. And they are putting lives at risk in Ukraine . . . In the fullness of history‚ this is going to look like a Neville Chamberlain moment.     Whuh? Chamberlain was the British Prime Minister who met with Hitler in 1938. After agreeing to cede portions of Czechoslovakia in return for Hitler's empty promise not to make any further territorial demands‚ Chamberlain infamously claimed that he had achieved "peace for our time." Chamberlain had gone down in history as the embodiment of the failure of appeasement. How Avlon analogized that to events in the House yesterday is beyond comprehension. We'll see if voters buy that‚ but it's a good messaging trick.   POPPY HARLOW: John‚ you want to look at the big picture‚ as sort of the big story here of House Speaker Mike Johnson so far. JOHN AVLON: So much losing. House Republicans have shown themselves to be unwilling and unable to govern in the national interest. CUPP: Uninterested in it! AVLON: They are. This is‚ this is so many levels of failure.  Yesterday in particular‚ right? Couldn't get a stand-alone Israel bill. Couldn't get the Mayorkas vote. Have gutted provisions that were bipartisan‚ that Republicans requested‚ to strengthen the border. The Wall Street Journal and others saying this is the best border bill -- Donald Trump couldn't get this. And‚ and now they're holding -- what's really revealing -- they're holding Ukraine hostage. That was always the objection. Because if you put Ukraine supplemental funds up for a vote‚ it would pass. It would pass. So they are playing politics with the border. And they are putting lives at risk in Ukraine. And‚ and in the fullness of history‚ this is going to look like a Neville Chamberlain moment.

A bill filed by a Democratic state senator from Oklahoma would include firearm safety devices in a law that exempts them from state taxes.State Senator Jo Anna Dossett (D) introduced SB 1476‚ which is described in official documents as "exempting sales tax on purchase of gun safes and guns safety devices."The purpose is reportedly to encourage more Oklahoma residents to take advantage of gun safety equipment‚ KJRH reported. The outlet claimed that Dossett cited a study on the issue that was conducted in autumn 2023 and that the legislation has received support from the Oklahoma Rifle Association as well as the organization Everytown."Most Oklahomans are responsible gun owners and many already use such devices‚" Dossett claimed. "This tax exemption will encourage even more responsible gun owners to use them."Under the proposed amendment‚ firearm safety devices would be exempted from Oklahoma's state sales tax of 4.5%. This reportedly includes gun safes‚ gun cases (presumably with a lock of some kind)‚ lockboxes‚ and trigger locks.Trigger locks can be defined as a "small plastic or metal device that fits over and through a gun’s trigger guard‚ impeding one’s ability to shoot‚" according to Slate‚ which wrote about the topic in a blog critical of those opposed the devices."The cost to the state will be $166‚000‚ but when you compare that to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing gun deaths and injuries cost Oklahoma taxpayers more than $200 million a year‚ it’s clear this is a common-sense bill that promotes both public safety and sound fiscal policy‚" the Democrat stated. "I’m grateful to the members of the Finance Committee for their support and look forward to advancing this important legislation‚" she added. The organization claims to be "non-partisan"; however it lists being "intersectional" as one of its core values. The word is typically associated with left-wing racial identity politics and is defined by Syracuse University as "the study of overlapping or intersecting social identities and related systems of oppression‚ domination‚ or discrimination."Everytown also has a lengthy diversity statement‚ which notes that it applies "a racial equity lens to assess proposed policies‚ practices‚ and programs."Bloomberg's ideological alignments have varied greatly throughout his political career. Before 2001 he was a Democrat‚ but he served as New York's mayor as a Republican from 2002 to 2007.Then the mayor became independent from 2007 to 2018. He left office in New York in 2013. Joe Rogan and Aaron Rodgers are no strangers to controversy. The fact that these two have dared to share thoughts contrary to those promoted by the radical left have resulted in both men being crucified by the liberal-owned media. But that hasn’t stopped either of them from fighting the woke mind virus. Dave Rubin is encouraged by Rogan and Rodgers’ willingness to share their red-pilling experiences because it’s people like them who are encouraging others to “wake up.” A couple of days ago‚ Rodgers‚ who the media has painted as a “conspiracy theorist” and a “racist‚” was invited on “The Joe Rogan Experience” again to discuss Big Pharma’s iron grip on the narrative. “They are f***ing controlling the message‚” Rodgers said‚ adding that “the alphabet companies‚” such as the CDC and the NIH‚ “have been lying and misleading the public for so long.” Rodgers explained that the reason people‚ including himself and Rogan‚ get “slaughtered by the media” for speaking out or even questioning the narrative is because it’s Big Pharma “who’s paying [the media].” “It’s corporate controlled‚” agreed Rogan‚ and “it's not beneficial to the greater good of society.” Dave remembers how‚ during the height of the pandemic‚ “they'd be covering COVID on NBC News‚ CNN‚ ABC‚ etc. and then they'd cut to commercial – ‘Brought to you by Pfizer.” “Oh really? So you're taking money from the very people who you are supposed to be objectively talking about and criticizing where criticism is due?” he scoffs. CNN specifically went to great lengths to villainize Rogan for his position on COVID. Dave plays an old clip from CNN of Rogan explaining how he used “ivermectin” and other tried-and-true medications to treat COVID next to the original clip Rogan posted himself. In CNN’s version‚ Rogan’s face is a sickly shade of greenish-gray‚ whereas in the original clip‚ his coloring is completely normal. “At the exact same time as all of this was unfolding‚ suddenly for two weeks the entire mainstream media was calling Joe Rogan racist because they unearthed videos of him saying the n-word even though he was not saying it in a racist way; he was saying it to mock the people who actually are racist‚” Dave recounts‚ clearly showing the media’s obvious motivation to de-platform and defame Rogan for being a nonconformist. A former Virginia middle school teacher faces up to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 14-year-old. On Tuesday‚ Megan Pauline Jordan pleaded guilty to four felony counts of carnal knowledge of a minor and one felony count of indecent liberties with a minor‚ according to the Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The 25-year-old woman faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted on all five of the felonies. Jordan was arrested in June 2023 on suspicion of committing "multiple crimes involving a minor‚" the Henrico County Police Department said in a press release. She has been held at the Henrico County Jail since her June arrest without bond‚ inmate records say. At the time of her arrest‚ the Henrico County Police Department said it "was made aware of potentially inappropriate acts involving an adult acting in a custodial manner with a Henrico County student."“From this case‚ enough information was gathered permitting Henrico County police to seek indictments related to potential sexual acts between an adult and a teen minor‚" the department stated. At the time‚ Jordan was a teacher at Hungary Creek Middle School. Prosecutors say she would sneak into the boy's house‚ and sexually abuse a 14-year-old student.The Henrico County Public School District described the teacher sex scandal allegations as "an extremely serious and upsetting situation.""We have communicated with families at the school and will continue to support our school community in any way needed‚" the district said. Investigators said they had recovered Jordan's DNA from the student's bed sheets. Henrico County Commonwealth Attorney Shannon Taylor said‚ "During the 2022-23 school year‚ Ms. Jordan was having sexual relations with her 14-year-old student. On several occasions‚ Ms. Jordan would go to the victim’s house and have sexual intercourse with the student. Her DNA was recovered from his bed linens.""I must recognize the brave action of those who brought this matter to the attention of Henrico Police Division‚" Taylor added. "We are always asking people if they see something unusual‚ or not quite right‚ to say something.
