Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley appeared on the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live‚” taking the opportunity to take shots at her rival‚ former President Donald Trump‚ and grapple with a controversy from her campaign regarding the causes of the Civil War. During the opening act of NBC’s comedy show‚ also known as “SNL‚” Haley was introduced as a “concerned South Carolina voter” in a town hall sketch featuring cast member Kenan Thompson portraying CNN’s Charles Barkley and Punkie Johnson playing CNN’s Gayle King. The exchange that followed showed Johnson’s Trump mixing up Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)‚ leading Haley to suggest a mental competency test — another echo of real-life events — and Haley joking about Trump’s legal issues and voters being concerned about the ages of Trump and President Joe Biden. She later said “of course” slavery was central to the conflict and conceded that she should not have left it out of her answer in the first place. “I was just curious: What would you say was the main cause of the Civil War? And do you think it starts with an ‘s’ and ends with a ‘lavery?’” Edebiri asked. “Yep‚ I probably should have said that the first time‚” Haley said in a response. The candidate then ended the sketch with the traditional‚ “And live from New York‚ it’s Saturday night!”

The GOP-led House will take up a “clean‚ standalone” bill to send more aid to Israel this week‚ House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced on Saturday. This new measure is a departure from legislation passed by the House in early November — with the help of a small group of Democrats who broke ranks — that coupled $14.3 billion in support for Israel with an offset slashing the same amount of funds meant for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). “Given the Senate’s failure to move appropriate legislation in a timely fashion‚ and the perilous circumstances currently facing Israel‚ the House will continue to lead. Next week‚ we will take up and pass a clean‚ standalone Israel supplemental package‚” Johnson said in a Saturday letter. “During debate in the House and in numerous subsequent statements‚ Democrats made clear that their primary objection to the original House bill was with its offsets‚” Johnson added. “The Senate will no longer have excuses‚ however misguided‚ against swift passage of this critical support for our ally.” Israel has been fighting Hamas in the Gaza Strip since early October — when the group initiated deadly terrorist attacks on Israeli soil — and in recent days‚ U.S. forces have begun to launch strikes on Iranian-backed militia targets across the Middle East in retaliation for the killing of three U.S. troops. Bipartisan talks in the Senate could soon lead to a deal tying Biden’s request to border security reforms‚ but Johnson signaled frustration in his letter with how the negotiations have been conducted. “While the Senate appears poised to finally release text of their supplemental package after months of behind closed doors negotiations‚ their leadership is aware that by failing to include the House in their negotiations‚ they have eliminated the ability for swift consideration of any legislation‚” he said.

The contest was afoot. Could a mixed drink made by a human bartender win out over an Artificial Intelligence (AI) inspired cocktail? We are slightly apprehensive about this mash-up‚ but the order is in. Our contestant wants something “smokey‚ sultry‚ fruity‚ and surprise me.” The bartender goes to work‚ talking us through his selections. He mentions that he thinks she wants something “citrus forward.” With the “smokey‚” he thinks she leans toward Mezcal margaritas. He mixes the shaken (not stirred) concoction‚ and then he pours it into a short rock glass. He tops off his submission with a lemon and agave garnish. Image from TikTok. Next‚ the human bartender had to create the AI-inspired drink (because‚ you know‚ AI doesn’t have opposable thumbs). The recipe was printed‚ and our bartender read it. “One-ounce Mezcal‚ one-ounce tequila‚ one-ounce Ouzo‚ one-ounce vodka.” At this point‚ the bartender takes a breath before saying‚ “That’s a lot of booze‚ so‚ this’ll kill somebody.” But he wasn’t finished reading. The AI recipe added one ounce of lime juice and two ounces of pomegranate juice. The recipe then instructed the bartender to stir the drink. That was almost too much for our guy. Apparently‚ you shouldn’t stir cocktails containing juices‚ but he followed the AI instructions completely. As he poured the AI cocktail into a tall glass‚ he commented on the pretty pink color. A man who was born without a jaw is showing the world that people with disabilites deserve to find love. Joseph Williams has experienced many hardships throughout his life as a result of his condition. Beyond physical difficulties‚ he’s encountered a lot of people who treated him unkindly because they were afraid of his appearance. Now‚ however‚ Joseph is married to the love of his life‚ and he couldn’t be happier! In a beautiful episode of Love Don’t Judge‚ Joseph Williams and his wife‚ Vania‚ told the story of how they met at work and fell in love. At first‚ Vania was hesitant to approach Joseph‚ but he eventually won her over with his sweetness. They were friends for a while before finally recognizing their feelings for each other. “I was like‚ ‘that’s the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen‚'” Joseph recalled of their second meeting‚ using a text-to-speech feature on his phone.
